Matteo's of Boca Raton
Ravioli was so undercooked, could barely pierce it with a fork. 2 of us asked to send it back to be recooked which was responded with a visit from the manager who was less than gracious in his response. Would never go back again or refer anyone else to try this restaurant.
Honestly it started out bad. We had 8:15 reservations, we are a same sex male couple, and not one but two parties of two were seated ahead of us! My husband had already pointed them out to me that they came in at 8:25 and wanted to be seated by 8:30 while our reservation was at 8:15 and we were still at the bar! Then they both get seated ahead of us, upsetting my husband so he leaves then the lady at the desk ignores me and turns to another customer while I demanded to speak to the manager. I don’t pull the gay card, we are not like that, but it’s strange that we are passed over by not one but two good looking straight couples! The manager then rushed over to apologize and offered us a table which we accepted and honestly it was worth it because the waiter was excellent, the food was excellent and great portions to boot! Other then the fiasco by the incompetent staff, the place deserves a decent review as they owned up to their mistake and the food was worth it! We will be back and it shows to stand up when you feel like you were ignored! Our wine was comped, but that was not the point, the point was the manager realizing us being upset and treating us like the paying customers we are! They deserve five stars just for making a wrong a right!
Staff and management cannot handle large crowds of customers. 8:15pm reservation we were seated at 9:15pm. Then it took 25 min for a waiter to look at us only after we went up to a manager or owner and complained. Great food but they are not cut out for customer needs. No reason to go back. We rather fly back home to New York twice a year to get Italian food with smiles and care.
THE FOOD AND SERVICE WERE EXCELLENT. PETER, IS ALWAYS THERE TO MAKE SURE THINGS ARE RUNNING SMOOTHLY.
I'm sure the food and service would have been better if it weren't a Saturday night. That said, the food wasn't great and the service was awful. The staff could care less if your reservation was not honored. I have never been to a restaurant where they could care less if you stayed or left.
We always live Matteo’s
We’re long long long time patrons
Amazing service and food. Choice of family style is terrific and fun. Individual plating, as well. Prices are extremely reasonable for quality of food. service and classy ambiance. Great for parties, family gatherings or romantic nights.
Very nicefood delicious,service excellent
Wait was too long for reservation
Always a treat
The potions are large.Very noise even on a week night.I have dined there for years in Florida and New York, I felt the food wasn't as good as when we went in June a bit disappointed.
We were a party of 6 and 4 of us are vegan. They had no trouble making us a delicious dish of zucchini noodles with steamed veggies in a red sauce which was a nice alternative to having pasta.
Service was very good and they accommodated us with a spot for the stroller without a problem. The only downside was the restaurant is very noisy, but I would definitely go back again.
A spider fell onto my head! The people that go there are generally too loud!
Tables were NOT set up outside . Even though 9 pm reservation Server Did not come to table for a long while . Once he came service was ok - food was good
Holiday time was very busy but the outdoor seats were quiet and our servers were attentive.
My son’s food never came until the other 5 people in our party were finished.
Being a resident of Florida, going during the holidays is not ideal.
We booked a table for Christmas Eve. We waited for over an hour to be seated with tons of Patrons ahead of us waiting for their table. The restaurant said were running behind but should have given us a call to tell us they were running over an hour behind. We ended up having to leave really with no where to go for our family dinner. Horribly disappointed.
We have been to Matteo’s quite a few times
But the last visit will be our last time
We waited more that an hour for appetizers
The waiter was not attentive at all..
Two hours later we received our dinner..
The food was warm, the appetizers were incomplete...
It was just a horrible experience..
No manager to be found anywhere
Had about 4 different waiters..
Wait too long for food. 5 pm reservations. Sat down at 5 seven at 7.
From the beginning, the staff at Matteo’s made this a very awkward and uncomfortable visit. Upon arrival the hostess addressed us very coldly letting us know we couldn’t sit without our full party being here. After a few minutes, when we found out two members of our party were going to be late we asked to be seated. She informed us that we could be sat, but “you have to order right away, because we need to turn the table.” (Gotta love a place that cares more about profit than service)
The waiter continued this sentiment by regularly pressuring us to order our entrees, despite us trying to enjoy our family gathering and not having even received our first round of drinks.
Other issues we experienced include;
- not receiving the proper drinks we ordered
- disappointing quality of the veal and rigatoni dishes
Overall we never felt welcomed or any sense of hospitality from the staff of this restaurant. This was especially disappointing as this had become a regular place for our family to visit, but after this experience, I’d be hard pressed to recommend or visit again without knowing something major had been done to improve the service levels.
excellent service . food is served family style and the waiter over estimated the food our kids would eat which significantly drove up the bill. not a cheap place to eat or drink but the food is good.
Great food and great service always. Burnt Broccoli and chopped salad still rule!
I didn’t expect the restaurant to be quiet, it was hard to hear myself think.
The waiters really rushed us & took plates without asking first...removed bread & butter plates before main courses were served. The 3 small chicken medallions were very skimpy. In the past full servings were much more generous.
I used to frequent the Matteo’s when I lived in Stamford, CT, & found the main dishes more plentiful.
The waiters seemed more interested in getting us in & out, turning the table over.
Our group arrived on time for our reservation and we were seated immediately. The drink order was taken and bread was served. Drinks arrived in a timely manner. We dine at Matteo's periodically and generally know what to expect and have our expectations met. We were a party of seven with two children. We placed our order and the waiter offered no guidance in our selections. We ordered the chopped salad and requested Romaine lettuce in place of iceberg. The salad arrived at our table already portioned in individual servings along with a comment that they could not provide us with the Romaine we requested. It is generally expected that if an ingredient cannot be provided that the staff should inform the customer so that an alternative can be chosen. (At this point Romaine was back on the shelves in supermarkets). We ate the salads and did not say anything. The mushroom appetizer was served after the salad and was not really up to par. The stuffing in the mushrooms consisted of breadcrumbs tossed in a frying pan with olive oil and topped with some sort of beef gravy. They were tasteless except for the gravy spooned on top. While we were eating the appetizers, dinner plates were piled on our table in anticipation of the arrival of the main dishes. It created an unnecessary annoyance. The rigatoni bolognese was delicious as was the chicken parmigiana. The fettuccini Alfredo was pretty good. Our favorite dish - chicken Matteo was ok. We thought that the limited amount of peppers made the dish a little tasteless and the sausage that is usually delicious was dry and smaller than usual. The tartufo was very good and the cannoli was creamy and delicious although it seems to be shrinking in size each time we order it. It was a very busy night with many holiday parties and birthdays. Better to go during the week when service is more attentive and not as rushed.
The staff is amazing and food is delicious
Alway consistent, large portions, good food. Great for large parties, Be aware holiday times are crazy. If you have a later reservation be prepared to wait.
always the best food & the service this time was spectular
Our waiter was very gracious and happily fulfilled special requests. Bread and Butter and SALAD fresh and outstanding. On the downside. We were 5 and 4 decided on same main courses. Veal Francaise and Penne al Vodka. It was recommended the 4 order large portions of both. The penne arrived perfectly cooked and plentiful. Confusing however, was the large veal consisted of 3 pieces which were very small and would never have served 4. The ladies split one small veal cutlet and the men took the whole remaining 2. We then ordered another large veal and when it arrived all could see how much larger the 3 cutlets on this second order were. Food, was very good.
I ordered a small chopped salad for myself and small order of meatballs. Outstanding!
Always amazingly great food.....ALWAYS very loud !
Food and service were excellent. The noise level was a liitle high
Love it! Cant wait to go back. Fun family style. Always feel at home.
Had a 630 res as that was the only available time. Restaurant beautiful. Service was average . Food was very good , large portions , family style. Our waiter was not attentive and I feel badly reporting this. I love eating out but feel I was always looking for him. Don’t think it was his fault . I think he had too many tables. Will go back again . I always give s second and third chance.
Food was good, but the overall restaurant is very noisy.
I love everything about Matteo’s, but I think that the family style large pasta portions are comparable to what many Italian restaurants serve as a single serving. Price and quantity, in this case, don’t equate especially since pasta is relatively cheap. The sauce on the Amatriciano was plentiful, in this experience, but the bucatini amount is such that the plate shows between the strands. Other pasta dishes have been the same. However, I forgive them because their food preparations are excellent. It would be nice if they did something about the portions of pasta.
Food was very good. Service was outstanding! Desserts delicious and big enough to share with several people!!
4 people shared many dishes. Food was good some of it better than others. New waiter, service slow. Manager acknowledged problems and took good care to make up for it.
Love this restaurant for group dinners because the family style portion sizes (half or whole). The menu has options for everyone. Everything is delicious. The baked clams, shrimp/chicken Napoli (not on the menu) & shrimp/chicken Wendy are perfect for everyone to share, not at other typical Italian restaurants & so delicious! Our waiter, Brian was very attentive & professional. He served each person as the dishes arrived at the table and checked on us frequently. Always a consistently great dinner to bring a group.
We thought this experience was a solid for stars across every category! Food, Service, and Ambiance!
We will return!
If you are looking for a classy Italian restaurant with a pleasant ambiance, casual elegant dress style and fair prices, Matteo's is NOT it, in any way, shape or form. Matteo's is ridiculously high-priced, even for Mizner Park in Boca, shorts and flip-flops on a Saturday night are consistent with Matteo's dress-code, reservations are taken but not respected, patrons are herded into a large open food pen, and food quality is below average at best. Dinners are not served. All items that appear to be dinners are ala carte only. If you are expecting a side of spaghetti with ANY dish in this 'Italian' restaurant, forget it. However, you can order a side of spaghetti for $19.00. There are many wonderful Italian restaurants in South Florida. Matteo's is not among them.
