Matt the Miller's Tavern - Carmel Ratings and Reviews
My book club met at MTM for our holiday gathering. We were seated at a high top table in the bar - it was noisy but not too bad. We all had cocktails to start, followed by a light meal. Our server was around if we needed her but not intrusive. Most of us ordered flatbreads and salads - the crust is my favorite in the area! We stayed almost 2.5 hours and never felt pressured to give up our table - perhaps because it was a Monday night - but in any event, it was a great place to meet and we'll do it again!
Understand if you request the bar in your OpenTable notes they will only honor it if there is availability when you arrive. It doesn't matter even if you call in advance.
Calamari once a great app was cold but the waitress did remove it from the bill.
The recipe for the shrimp and grits had been changed and resulted in turning one of the best shrimp and grits in the area to one that is just so-so.
The (two 3oz) beef medallions we're on a large white plate with a dollop of mashed potatoes and no presentation whatsoever. Save your money and buy the 3oz beef tenderloin selection at Costco along with their microwavable mashed potatoes. You can always throw a little parsley to dress up the plate.
I have eaten here before but forgot how good the food is. Will be coming back again. Nice restaurant. Not loud and noisy. Good location near the Carmel Palladium. There is also a menu for kids too. I think because the name has the word "Tavern" in it that families think it is a bar. Not so. It's really a nice restaurant.
Got together with a few couples on Saturday night. I completely forgot how busy this place is. My reservation saved it since they were on a 2 hour wait when we arrived. The food was wonderful. The pork tenderloin is my favorite and it was great on Saturday. Our server was great and our drinks stayed full throughout our meal.
Took my wife for a extremely needed date night!! I am so glad I made a reservation because the place was hopping. Our server/bartender was great and helpful guiding us threw the menu. It was packed but we felt like the staff really cared about making our experience a great one. We will be talking up Matt the Millers to everyone. Thanks for making our night wonderful and hopefully we can make it out more frequently.
We had reservations for 5 people at 8 pm on Saturday, November 25, 2017. We were seated exactly at 8 pm - great!!
We were then asked for our drink orders and drinks were delivered in a timely fashion. Our waiter took our food order at about 8:15 pm. At 9:30 pm, we still did not have our food. The waiter had been to our table at about 9 pm stating the kitchen was covered up and our food would be delivered in 10 to 15 minutes. It didn’t come out and no indication of when it would be ready!
We were very disappointed that this happened as we had two out of town guests with us and we were all looking forward to a fun evening and a delicious dinner. We probably will not be back to the restaurant for a long time.
We arrived at 6:15pm to have a drink at the bar. Our reservation was for 7:15 pm. We checked in and they told us they might seat us sooner. At 7:10 pm, we checked in with the hostess again and she said it would be 10 more minutes. At 7:25 pm, we checked in again and were told our table was ready but that they had lost our number and could not text us to let us know and could not find us. (We were in plain view at the bar.) We were shown to a table and promptly ordered at 7:30 pm. By 8:30 pm no sign of food and waiter said he did not know what the problem was. We asked for the manager; no manager ever materialized. At 8:45 pm we left without eating. This is very unfortunate because we were considering having our son's rehearsal dinner here in June. (50-60 people) I don't think that is going to happen. The food looked good. We just didn't get any.
We went to dinner there due to it's location to the Carmel Palladium. We had concert tickets at 8:00. We arrived on time for our reservation at 6:15. They were slammed due to the concert and the Carmel Christkindlmarket being in full swing. So, we did not get our food until nearly 7:30. Our waiter was great and the manager even stopped by to apologize for the length of time it was taking to be served. We have eaten at Matt the Miller's Tavern before and had great service and had our food served right away. I am not sure what they could have done to change the amount of people in their restaurant all ordering at the same time. I think with the two events going on it was just a matter of circumstances. We will definitely be back.
This was our second trip to this restaurant. The first time the food was slow and we missed a theater curtain and the management gave us a $20 voucher. On the second to use the vouchers, the food was still extremely slow arriving and the place was only half full. There are other options that are better managed and we won't be back anytime soon.
Respectable beer selections. Food was ok, but not great. Service was lackluster, to put it kindly. Our server was in the weeds badly all night. He either had too many tables, was innefficient, or a combination of both. Had to wait over 15 mins at one point for a beer refill.
Although I have been here probably 9 or 10 times this was the first time I was disappointed in service. We had reservations for 2 and were seated in the bar at a really awkward 2 top right behind a huge pillar. We opted out of table and told hostess we felt really cramped and could they find a different table, she had no options but the bar so we sat there. She continued on without handing us menus. After 7-10 minutes we finally asked the person next to us if we could share their menu. Service got even less efficient from then on. For the price and the fact I made reservations in advance, anticipating it to be busy as there was an event at the Center next door I was not impressed. The manager was kind and took off one of our food items to make up for the issues but still it fell short of a good experience. I am chalking this up to a possible bad night for staff since we have been pleased in the past.
We had been to a brunch there before and it was amazing, with good food and a carving station. This time, they are clearly cutting food and staff costs - the food was already old and overdone at opening and no carving station or upscale protein on an expensive brunch buffet. The food was really quite poor and the brunch was nearly $20 a person, so we were disappointed and disturbed by the change in quality. Our waitress snapped at us when we asked for water and plain cream for the coffee (not provided in the $3 coffee bar). We were so excited to go and so disappointed by the change in quality. We won't go back.
