Had the funniest hibachi chef. Food was delicious. The matsutake shrimp is especially good and unique!
The restaurant does not use this for reservations.... we had to wait 30+ mins for a table. But should be removed from
Your site
Note: we did not actually dine at this restaurant. When we arrived for our reservation and told the host (who turned out to be the owner/manager) that we had an open table reservation, he scolded me for making a reservation on Open Table. He said they have been trying to get off of it for months and it is bad for them. He then said they didn’t know about our reservation and would “try” to seat us soon. Again he said I should have called for a reservation. It was my husbands birthday dinner and I felt embarrassed for being told off, so we left. We have never had a negative Open Table experience, and I was very disappointed. Needless to say, we will keep using Open Table and not return to Matsutake. ☹️
Checked in for our 8:00 reservation for six on a Saturday night. Was told they no longer accept Open Table reservations and that they've tried to get off the Open Table site. They were nice enough to honor the reservation and seated us promptly, but be aware that might not be the case in the future.
The chefs are always great. The wait staff is also great. The hosts are ok.
My son wanted to celebrate his birthday here.
Very good. The experience is exactly what we expected due to previous visits to Matsutaki. The chef was great, however this time the waitress seemed to be off her game.
Looks like they never got my reservation from OpenTable.
It's always a great evening with good food, drinks and friends!
Anniversary
Food tasted great and servers were nice, but it took WAAAY too long for a chef to come out and start cooking. If you take kids, take a snack or something for them to do, bc its too long for kids to wait.
My daughters birthday was never acknowledged even though I wrote in the notes of OpenTable. We told the waitress but still nothing happened. The chef was amazing though
First time here and I'll say I loved it! Our chef was beyond entertaining and the food was outstanding! Good for special occasions!
looks like they do not take open table reservations because when we got there we were informed that they did not accept them anymore. Fortunately, we were seated right away (even though there was a wait)
I was not please with the food at all!!
Made the reservation but still had to wait for a table for 15 minutes. Other than that, the experience was very good.
The food was good but the portions have become smaller. I reserved online however when we arrived was told they don't get the online reservations. The manager was very helpful and sat us right away and gave me a card to call for reservations in the future
Great service with great dining experience!
We eat here often, but onight was bad night. We I'll never go there on a Friday night again .
Seated immediately, waited 10 to place order and another 10 to get soup. Soup was flavorless, salad was watery. Server was never around. Hibachi food portions were large!
reservations were for 6:30 but our chef didn't arrive to start cooking until 7:50...that is 1 hour 20 minutes of waiting....
Went on Saturday night even with a reservation we had to ask them 5 times to get us seated and it took 30 minutes to do so. Food came an hour after we ordered. Drinks weren't refilled. Asked for silverware 3 times. Wait staff kept dropping off our appetizer to other tables then back to the kitchen so didn't come until dinner. It was busy but just could have been helped with some organization. The check took 25 minutes to come.
Third year going here for V-day date and again everything was great. Took us in right away, even when we were alittle early. Cook was good, had a great personality and interacted well with kids sitting at table. Food was excellent as always and service was good.
First time here. Something different for Valentines Day. Very entertaining, good was good. Would make for a great family experience.
As good as any Japanese hibachi show restaurant. We all enjoyed ourselves and our food.
In the spectrum of Hibachi Style Japanese Steakhouses, there are better choices to be had. The food was bland by comparison of similar competitors like Benihana (Bethesda) or Sakura (Germantown). The service from the at table chef was very good, but the remainder of the service staff left a lot to be desired. To be fair, they were slammed for a Saturday night, but with a 6:30 reservation, not getting seated until 7:15 is pretty unacceptable. If you can't keep a reservation, don't make one. The wait staff had trouble keeping drinks filled, a table patron had a specific allergy based request that the waiter completely ignored (but thankfully the chef caught). Overall it wasn't bad, and on a quieter night the service might be better, but in my opinion, it was just ok.
Upon arriving, we were "greeted" by a rather unfriendly hostess that took our name (why? We had a reservation) and we sat in the waiting area. 20 min. after our reservation, she asked the crowd if there were any parties of 4. Ummm...yes, there were several, where was the list? I proceeded to the hostess stand to inquire about what was going on and a server (?) ended up helping me and had us seated. After being seated, we waited 10 min. for someone to come take our drink order. Another 5 min. went by before she returned with our drinks. Our soup/salad came out in a timely manner as did our chef. The chef was having a bad day or something though. He dropped egg after egg (on the floor) and forgot several portions of our orders. The food was decent though. While it was not a great experience, it was even worse for the people across from us, they waited an hour between soup/salad and their chef coming out to cook!
As always hibachi food and service was great. We booked a table via open table, but the restaurant couldn't or didn't have our reservation. Despite that we were still seated within 15 minutes of our original reservation time.
It was Christmas and this was what we were left with having to choose. They were way under-staffed and way over crowded. The wait staff tried to do what they could, but please, stop seating if your staff and kitchen can't keep up. We made reservations for a Hibachi table and upon getting there on time, it was going to be another 45 minutes until we could be seated, so we chose to do the regular seating. We arrived at 5:00, didn't get seated until about 5:30 and then didn't leave until after 6:30, when our movie started. Much of that was mgmt's fault as they should have stopped seating when the kitchen fell behind. However, the kitchen....the food was dry and not the least bit tasty by the time it finally arrived to our table. We won't be doing this again next year or any other time of year. This is when Matsutake had a time to shine and they were dull to say the least.
The foot is excellent and it's fun to watch the food being prepared in front of us.
We were a large group there for the hibachi grill. Overall we were pleased with service and quality of food. The only constructive feedback I would offer -- while our chef was good and friendly, looking around at the other chefs they didn't seem to have the visible enthusiasm and energy of what I am used to seeing of chefs at other Hibachi restaurants.
Meh. The hibachi chef was a nice guy but not much entertainment. Just cooked food that was bland & left. As soon as he left, the server was handing us boxes to get us to leave.
This is the second time we had our V-Day date here and it was ok, first one was better. Made a 6:30 reservation but got sat at 7pm which was not a big deal. I guess the staff was not expecting so many people that day. The grill guy we had was kind of a rude in the beginning to everyone because we were talking to other couples, but he warmed up after that. It was a good night and looking forward to going back again.
despite having a reservation, there were no seats at the main tables available. instead we were (eventually) shuffled off into a corner where we could order the same food (at the same prices) you could get at the main table - without the cooking "show".
huge disappointment in the evening for me, wife, and kids. and the attitude of the front desk was horrible. like they were doing us a favor.
won't be back
We had eaten sushi here before and thought it was excellent. This time we ate at Hibachi table because our son was with us. It is loud and very slow progression dinner. Entertaining for kids. Overall a good dinner.
Making Japanese style dining a NYE tradition, we made a reservation the day before for 8p New Years Eve and the place was hopping. They were not able to clean away and prepare to seat people fast enough therefore about 25 people were waiting to be seated. As we were waiting over 15 minutes after our reserved time, we decided to call the same style restaurant in the area and a restaurant where we ate last NYE, they were not crowded, seated us by 8:30p, and we had a lovely meal. I would absolutely try Matsutake again on a less popular evening.
Very busy night & server/staff were slammed when we arrived. Initial drink orders came sporadically if at all, but once the hibachi chef started cooking, all was well.
As it was Christmas day we expected it to be busy and it was. As a result our server was stretched very thin. Unfortunately this meant a forgotten salad course and frequently empty water glass. We did enjoy the food and camaraderie of our table mates plus our chef was excellent but the experience would have been improved if the service was better.
Good thing: Children are entertained when the chef cooks right at your table!
Not so good: All the food appears to be cooked in the same sauces so everything tends to taste the same.
The "appetizer" was either served with the meal or not served at all - I really don't know if I ever got it.
My beef tasted good but the seafood could have tasted much better.
The scallops were not properly cleaned: the tough side muscle had not been removed. This is so easy to remedy and part of scallop cleaning 101!
There were three mistakes on my bill all of which were more expensive than what we ordered. I had to send the bill back for corrections each time!
We had an outstanding dinner for ladies night and the staff was absolutely great. We stayed until the place closed laughing and joking and the staff never rushed us but continued to check on our needs throughout the evening.
