The rice was not sushi rice.
It didnt look like much from the outside, we were not sure of even going in, but we went ahead. The place is small, less than 8 tables downstairs. We were surprised by the menu though, lots of different items. The food was great. Parking was a pain as it was St. Patricks day and the streets were filled with college age kids.
Best sushi in Miami by far!! Fried cheese cake to die for
The food and service is always outstanding at Matsuri!
This was not my first time at Matsuri but this was my first time with a large group of people. I was pleased with how well the staff was able to handle such a large group along with other large parties during a very busy dinner time!
Authentic , and excellent service.
Very Little Wait! Amazing Service and the freshest Sushi in Baltimore!!
Friendly place with a good selection, though it is possibly quite a small restaurant. Took advantage of the Restaurant Week special menu. We loved all the food we tried. The seared tuna starter tasted beautiful. Also big fans of the tempura cheesecake. Tried the Lychee Saketini and that was a very good choice.
I’ve been dining here for years and love the food at Matsuri. I made a reservation since “back in the day” it would have been difficult to get a table at lunch time. I indicated that we would be celebrating a birthday. We arrived and got our table. For the entire hour and a half that we were there, no other patrons dined in. Two waitresses were in the small dining room yet we had to repeatedly ask for things - water, tea, part of our order, another take out box (the one was too small). Neither of the employees wished my friend a happy birthday when it was obvious that was why we were there (I brought gifts). Overall experience was quite disappointing. Not sure I will be going back.
The food here was delicious and Matsuri's specialty rolls were amazing. The Black Pepper Tuna is a must! If you're going as a large group, I would recommend again family style ordering, as the bill adds up quickly!
Best Japanese/Sushi in all of Baltimore. Fast, friendly service and always greeted with a smile.
Had a group of 8 out for dinner night out. We did not realize it was a Ravens Game, so parking was challenging. Eventually found a spot on the street about a block away. Building is not a lot to look at, but we had a table for ten upstairs. The sushi was good and fresh with lot's of options. The only alcohol they serve is Saki and Beer. Overall good sushi, average ambiance, bad parking and reasonable price.
We come in all the time. The service and food are consistantly very good. Kitchen times are quick too. We love to eat here.
We love Matsuri and come here often. I am not a sushi eater although my husband loves it and there are wonderful selections for both of us.I particularly think their negimaki and pork Tonkatsu. The service is excellent and the owner is very hospitable and helpful. The ambiance feels more authentically Japanese to us than some of the other Japanese restaurants in Baltimore.
Good sushi overall. Wish they would de-vein their shrimp though
All the fish was excellent. Especially the Toro. Correct temperature, fresh, great flavor.
I like the food and so did my friend. Did not like the chicken as much as the beef and shrimp
Matsuri is a classic eatery for sushi and nihon no tabemono. Busy and lively, with a great selection of sushi, sashimi and rolls, in addition to the kitchen items you'd expect. Very friendly and hip waitstaff for the increasingly hip Federal Hill neighborhood. Good selection of sake and beer to complement the dishes.
Matsuri was OK. Nothing really stood out to me, whether it be the food, service, or environment.
Really good food and great service !
Been here before. Good for sushi et al. Bit pricey for what we got esp since was during OT week.
We went here for Restaurant week and found the offerings to be sub-par. We were sat in the upstairs room which became quite warm after some time. I've come for their happy hour before and would do that again, but will definitely skip over restaurant week here next time, definitely not worth the money. The offered rolls on the restaurant week menu were nothing special and the taste was nothing special as well.
The waitress was what really made this place shine for me. The food was really good but in this area there are a ton of restaurants that have the equivalent in taste. But the server was friendly and didn't leave us sitting too long at any point. My water glass never reached half empty before she was there to refill it. My favorite food here was the mochi ice cream. It was delectable and a wonderful ending to a great meal.
The waitress forgot our drink order and appetizers. We had to ask twice. Then the soup and salad wasn't delivered until after the main course. We asked numerous times, and the waitress said it was coming, it didn't. The table next to us had no problems getting their soup and salad in a timely manner, in fact when theirs was delivered, their server had extra and didn't know why so he gave it to me.
Great time for a birthday dinner. Able to make a last minute reservation!! Service was slow to start at first then great the rest of the night.
Chef Bill and his team always create such a wonderful dining experience. Great unique specials and wonderful service!
Matsuri has excellent sushi (best in Baltimore in my opinion). The restaurant itself is small inside, so don't expect a lot of room to handle those chopsticks.
Very good sushi but very long wait until food arrived-45 minutes. Long wait for available table despite reservation.
Horrible!! Hole in the wall!! I don't understand any of the good reviews. Never again...
Matsuri is always outstanding with excellent sushi and service.
The server really did not explain the menu and the seating was very cramped
My experience was great. The service was welcoming and I was seated immediately. The food was timely and very good.
My first experience was during Baltimore's Restaurant Week. I could not have selected a better restaurant. The food was fantastic. The restaurant itself was a little tight. The flavorful food made up for it.
I will return soon!
I liked the place, good ambiance and a little tight. It was nice to see the cooks make the sushi. Service was a bit slow. The food was okay, most of the food for the restaurant week menu was fried and maybe even a little overcooked (crab). I tend to prefer fresh sushi rather than fried and cooked sushi.
I was a little disappointed about our last visit to Matsuri. We came for restaurant week on a
Saturday at noon time but was told that they don't offer the lunch menu because it was the weekend. I don't know if I missed it but there was nowhere that I have seen them advertise that lunch menu is not served on the weekends. Anyways, we just ordered ala carte. The food at Matsuri is always good. 5 stars for that. We were seated downstairs which I did not really enjoy. I liked the ambiance more in the upper room.
If you are a fan of good sushi then this is your place. The various styles of sushi were amazing and even though the restaurant was a bit small the ambience was great!
Recently having moved to Baltimore I was looking for a good sushi restaurant and was not let down at all by Matsuri. It's prepared fresh where you can watch them make it if you like. It is a smaller place so reservations during high dining times is probably best. The service was great and their menu had all you could want for sushi. I highly recommend this restaurant and will be returning again.
In search of a new sushi restaurant to try out. This is a quaint little place in Fed Hill. Was in a party of four and glad I made reservations as there is very little space inside...maybe 5 or 6 tables. I got the Dynamic Roll which was delicious. I loved that they brought out warm towels to cleanse your hands before eating. Great service. Would recommend to all!
If you are craving sushi, you cant go wrong with Matsuri. They actually have a very large menu of cooked options as well although I have not really explored many of the choices aside from chicken teriyaki which is very good. Their fish is fresh and they have a decent selection of rolls. They are good for takeout as well as a sit down dinner and they have a small but nice space out front for outdoor dining.
For my first time coming here, I had a very good time and would come back. Everything was perfect food and service was on point and I had a very nice view by the window as I said before I will return.
