Fabulous as always -- so good to be back! We thought the music was a little too loud. Normally we don't have trouble hearing over it but we did Saturday night.
We were celebrating a birthday and the staff made it special with great service and the food was impeccable as usual
Matisse is consistently a great dining experience in every way
We were upstairs. Large room. Nicely appointed and quiet. Service good but a little rough—apetizer plates not removed before entree arrived. No wine pouring by server after initial.
Amazing food in a romantic setting. Highly recommend Matisse.
Wonderful neighborhood restaurant with great service, food, and amazing bread.
Elegant, delicious but yet so welcoming; bus boys to owner Fritz!
Was an excellent pre-Easter at Matisse. Three diners that savored fabulous entrees, superb appetizers, fresh salads, well crafted mixed drinks and a superb wine list. Poached pear in chocolate…who could ask for more! Server, Ellen, was polite, attentive and helpful with menu questions. Not my first and certainly will not be my last t Matisse.
It was great
We loved our meals. Only problem: perhaps they were understaffed, but service was sloooow...
As always a wonderful dining experience in a beautiful restaurant. The food, wine, and service were fabulous We are so glad to see that this fine restaurant has survived the pandemic and we look forward to future visits.
Matisse is my neighborhood “fine dining” restaurant, and I very much want to like it. But I’ve eaten there maybe half a dozen times and the food never rises above the mediocre. It’s nicely presented but is almost always close to flavorless. It lacks umami. My scallops over lentils and fava beans this evening were slightly rubbery and characterless. The kale salad was similarly insipid. And the wine list, while reasonably interesting, is overpriced. At least the service was professional and pleasant. But I was hoping for so much more.
Ways enjoy going to Matisse. Wonderful food and service. Good COVID protections in place.
First dinner out since March 2020.
Our first time here and we really enjoyed it. We ate outdoors, and COVID protocols were respected. Excellent service. The indoor area looks beautiful, and we look forward to eating here again soon.
Excellent food with professional service in a sophisticated setting. And all for reasonable cost. A true gym.
A great neighborhood Restaurant
This was my first time at Matisse. My daughter was turning 16 and she requested brunch and a French restaurant. I searched and was drawn to Matisse because of the great reviews. Matisse did not disappoint! The decor and design of the restaurant is beautiful. The service received was probably one of the best experiences I have had. The food oh the food. The food was amazing! Every item was very well prepared. Can you tell that I liked this place? Hahaha I cannot wait to go back for a dinner experience.
Great food and ambiance
Always amazing. Helen is such a wonderful person and an attentive server. Everyone there does great work, and the food is always delicious.
In addition to plenty of fine dishes, this restaurant serves the best duck to be had in the Washington Capital region, as far as I know from my extensive culinary experiences over the last 17 years here.
When booking the restaurant I didn't realize that it was fixed menu for Valentine's Day. I believe restaurants should give you the option of choosing from the fixed menu or their regular menu. The desert and the starter dish was outstanding. The braised ribs as a Main course were soft and succulent but lacked flavor. I'm confident that this restaurant is outstanding based upon previous reviewers. I will definitely try it again.
It is a great place for a romantic dinner, especially appropriate for Valentine's Day.
Excellent food with a nice variety of varied options. One of our favorite restaurants.
Easily one of the best restaurants in DC. The only reason it is not over run is because it is not down town. The branzino was perfect. Remember to leave room for desert. Oh and the whiskey sour...
I had not been to Matisse in years and I forgot how good it was.
Will definitely go back more often.
Fantastic as usual!!!
Matisse continues to live up to my expectations and has never been a disappointment. The wine list is extensive and moderately priced. I had smoked salmon latkes, a superb mushroom soup, and the steak and frites. She also had the latkes, perfectly dressed Caesar salad and a very tasty shrimp putanesca. Espresso and the poached pear made it a splendid evening.
Very cozy atmosphere with excellent food. We would definitely recommend this restaurant!
Such a lovely restaurant! Elegant decor. Delicious food. (Sunday brunch = Beignets! Yum!) And conveniently situated in a low-key neighborhood with ample parking.
What a wonderful place to have a fine meal! The soft music in the backhground, the fire in the fireplace in the back room, the excellent service, the wonderfully diverse menu and the quality of food....all of it makes this gem my favorite restaurant in DC. Dinner is on the pricey side but well worth it. Brunch on the weekends is an excellent value.
Great in every way
A beautiful restaurant with wonderful food and service! A true neighborhood gem—whether for a special occasion or any other time.
Excellent food, very pleasant service, and we sat outside on a very nice evening. Portions: 2 appetizers (the oysters were very good!), a shared entree, and a shared dessert worked perfectly.
Excellent environment, service, and selection. Matisse does an excellent job adhering to the COVID protocols, but still delivers a fine dining experience.
The food was excellent and generous, creative without being crazy. Matisse handled the coronavirus demands well, except for pushing the cell-phone route to getting the menu. Paper please!
Had dinner outdoors. Great service, socially distant tables, excellent food.
Matisse has a beautiful sidewalk cafe now and we had a magical evening. Fritz, the owner, was most welcoming, our server charming, efficient and the meal perfection. Three of us had the last soft shells of the season and they were fabulous. Please go and support this jewel of a restaurant— it is very safe.
