Jaime was an excellent waiter and went beyond expectations as ad hoc bartender. He was able to make my cocktail request though it was quite complicated. Merci!
We had a wonderful evening! Everything was fantastic......the food, the service, the ambiance and our “final final” at the bar after dinner!
Love Matisse. Consistently-great food and service!!!
Have been going to Matisse, occasionally, for many years. This trip, like others, proved what a consistent neighborhood gem it is. Enjoyed the food, service and ambience very much.
It’s become a real favorite. Everything is wonderful about Matisse.
I have eaten here a couple times before and really enjoyed it. It's a really nice spot and great for dates, anniversaries (we were celebrating our 28th) or just a quiet dinner. When we arrived, the place was largely empty and things started out well. Very soon afterward the dining room was full and things went downhill. I ordered my Caesar salad with no anchovies and it came with anchovies, which I really do not like. That was also about the time that the waiter stopped checking in with us for most of the rest of our meal. We had to put a drink order in through a manager who happened by and get our check through a busboy. I really like the place so I will give it another try and chalk this up to an isolated incident, but it was a disappointing experience
Always one of our favorites
Everything is good especially
One of the few restaurants that knows not to overseason or use cute spices that overpower the taste of your fresh meats and vegetables. It was just great. I had the calves liver.
Matisse is a favorite of ours because of its consistently good food, excellent service and atmosphere. Never disappoints.
A fine restaurant, with quality food, well-presented, and sufficiently "ample," not "minceur." Good place for Sunday brunch. A reasonable range of menu choices. Service friendly but a bit "choppy," ambiance quite noisy, overpriced for brunch (but it was Easter, so a premium.) We will go back, but mainly when we have out-of-town friends for a relaxed Sunday brunch experience.
We enjoyed an early Easter brunch at Matisse. We sat in the first floor rear dining area which was very charming. The service was excellent and wine list/wine by the glass selections were very good. We had the lamb and eggs benedict with salmon and both were very good. The bar looked as if it'd be a worthy destination for an early happy hour. This is a wonderful restaurant and as stated elsewhere, a neighborhood gem.
Everything was fine, except that I had asked that the birthday of one of our family members be recognized, and nothing happened
Matisse is a great neighborhood place with a nice menu. Always feels cozy and slightly fancy at same time. Excellent service.
Awesome service. Awesome food.
We celebrated my wife’s birthday at Matisse (for the second time in six days!)
Good food and service but just as expensive as downtown spots.
Always consistently excellent, Matisse is a safe choice for any occasion. One of the best wine cellars in town at ridiculously reasonable prices — not the 3x retail price you see at other DC restaurants. Can’t go wrong with daily Wine specials from Matisse’s huge selection. Favorite spot is the high top tables where you can see every political or media celebrity come and go.
Really enjoyed the ambiance, personal care, and let’s not forget the food, which was excellent!
We won't make the mistake of sitting in the back room again. It is deafeningly loud there. The front room is much quieter. The food ranges from mediocre to pretty good. Certainly better than the rest in the neighborhood.
It's been years since we've dined at Matisse. We're glad we came back. I had the duck which was excellent. The ambiance is lively, yet not noisy. Conversations can be had. They also offered specials on wines. We will be back.
Really excellent French-influenced cuisine. I go here for lunch often. The feel is civilized, but not stuffy. I think they do seafood especially well , particularly for a non-seafood restaurant. I also enjoy the hanger steak, calamari appetizer, and most of the classic French dishes. Excellent value, as well.
Matisse never disappoints. The appetizers, main courses and specials for our group of four were each outstanding. The suggested wines were excellent and reasonably priced. Service was very good . The decor relaxing and we could carry in a conversation.
I really appreciated the quiet atmosphere. I could hear my dinner companion!
And the food was excellent.
This is an absolutely fabulous restaurant! One my favorites in DC. Everything about it is divine.
What a delight to discover this restaurant! They have a great menu with lots of varied choices. I opted for the omelet and it came with a generous portion of pommes fritte and a lovely side salad. My college had the chopped salad and it was great. I'll be back to taste some of the rest of this menu!
This is one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants. Always gracious welcome and service is attentive without being intrusive. Food is authentic and steak one of the best in the area. Great wine list and extremely knowledgeable staff.
Highly recommend this lovely restaurant!
As always Matisse is a pleasure, excellent food, beautifully prepared and presented.
Great bread and croissents! And service is very nice.
Excellent service. Outstanding meal. Beautiful restaurant!
Three of us met to share memories of our dear friend, Anne Hale Johnson, also a friend of Fritz Siegfried. Matisse was the perfect place, a favorite place of Anne’s to honor and remember her.
We went with friends on a Saturday night. This is a great place for dinner when you don't want to go downtown or to Georgetown. Our food was just the right level of creative and well prepared -- the gnocchi on the seasonal menu was exceptionally light and, served with mushrooms, perfect for our vegetarian guest. Service is excellent. The wine list is fine and the prices overall quite reasonable. And, although it wasn't exactly quiet when full, we were able to hear each other talk.
This standby has been remarkably consistent through the years offering up authentic French cuisine at prices that are not cheap but still good value. The menu is refreshingly comprehensive and much wider than those you find in trendy new restaurants and the wine list is outstanding. What our party of six especially appreciated this time in addition to the great food and wine was the relatively low noise level and the elegant ambiance.
This was my third visit to Matisse, and it's never disappointed.
Matisse is a gem of a restaurant! I love to go there anytime, particularly for lunch! Very special!
This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend during a visit to Chevy Chase. It is a quaint, charming restaurant with gracious service and tasty traditional french/italian cuisine.
Attentive service. Excellent brunch choices. We’ll go back.
Masala Art is one of our favorites, and once again, it did not disappoint. The lunch buffet is delicious, and the offerings are different every day. The staff is great about giving us time to talk with our friends.
My two dining partners were happy with their meals, but I found my snapper entree, which I had never ordered before, to be dry and tasteless. Since this is the first time I've ever been disappointed here, am assuming it was just an unfortunate day.
We went on Valentine's Day and the food was nice, but the service was mismanaged and slow, and the value you were getting for what you were paying was very poor. Probably will not go again.
Valentine’s Day at Matisse. Service good. Food good. Prix fixe $75. À la carte not available. How hard would it be to let us know in advance? Not hard. One point off. Appetizers very good. Short rib excellent. Scallops unimpressive. Desserts very unimpressive. Another point off. Value for money seriously lacking, even for Valentine’s Day. Sorry you lost a potential repeat customer. Was it worth it to make (more than) a few extra bucks on Valentine’s Day?
Went for lunch; chicken tasted and smelled 'wet'. It was served with a side salad, both the chicken and the salad were covered in the *same* dressing. Come on people, make some effort! Place looks nice, however there is only 1 unisex toilet on the main floor, with inadequate ventilation.
