I really enjoyed dining at Matisse. It is a nice neighborhood restaurant. The service is outstanding and the ambiance just right. The food and the architectural design of the place are great. I look forward to future visits to Matisse.

We go often to Matisse and it's done a great job maintaining quality over the years. We sat outside on a lovely evening. I had mussels and grilled branzino fillet, which were both very good. My wife was less happy with her tuna tartar and sauteed soft shell crabs. The waiter was surprisingly inept with opening the wine bottle and whisked away my glass with a piece of cork without offering to replace the wine I was tasting.

Service was very slow; server did not seem that interested in doing his job; we miss the "old" Matisse: the Matisse of yummy food, cheerful servers, reasonable prices, and comfortable atmosphere.

A charming setting, excellent service and food, cloth tablecloths and napkins. A very comfortable setting with generous spacing of tables. Easy to chat and enjoy the evening. We chose to sit inside but we were near the patio so we had the best of both. Generous wine list.

Had to adjust our reservation a couple of times because of storm-related delays, which meant that our table wasn't quite ready when we arrived... a bit of a hassle given that we were dining with my MIL who was celebrating her 102nd (yes!!) birthday... but the staff was all very helpful, and brought a chair out for her to sit. I was also surprised that at nearly 8:30 the restaurant was packed and very noisy. This was our second visit, and as before, the food and service was excellent and it's clearly a neighborhood favorite. Between us we had oysters (very fresh!), beetroot salad (beautiful presentation), soft-shell crab, and duck breast. Dessert of creme brulee and peach melba - delicious.

A class act. We need to come more often. We love the food here, and the service is flawless. There are always seasonal specials along with the inviting regular menu. Invariably impossible to decide what to order. And they can make a classic cocktail without needing an explanation. High marks for presentation and quality.

Matisse is a family and friend favorite. The food is exquisite and the ambiance is wonderful — all without being off-putting. More importantly, it manages to feel fresh and busy without being noisy and overly trendy. I highly recommend it.

I thought the portion of duck on duck hash was small. I was expecting an identifiable piece of duck. The layer of fat was soggy. I believe it should be crisp. The egg yolks were over cooked, although the whites were beautiful.

The one thing that would have improved our experience is a little greater ease in hearing one another at our table for four people. A few baffles, etc..to soften the sound would make it a more "zen" experience in which to savor the fine food.

As usual, the specials were just that. The soft shell crab on a bed of corn is the best around. The sauvignon blanc on the specials menu was perfect for the dishes we had. The appetizers (a beet salad and the watermelon salad) were just right for a late evening dinner. The service was pleasant and warm. We are consistently happy with our experiences as Matisse.

We love Matisse! We have always had consistently great meals and the wine list is superb. We were there for Fathers Day and we had the scallops with sweet potatoes, the soft shell crab and the duck and all were excellent. There is not a bad choice on the men and the service is exceptional, keeps us coming back again and again. a true neighborhood gem.

Entrees were fantastic, they had the soft-shell crab, I had the duck breast. Ceasar salads were crisp, seasoned to perfection with just the right amount of dressing. Fried green tomatoes with pico de gallo atop was A+. Superb martinis and great wine prices. The strawberry-rhubarb tart was amazing. Service was timely and spotless!!

The food and service were fine, with the exception of the dessert apple tart which was amateurish, at best. But the noise level, consistently over 85 decibels, drove us out of the restaurant. I’ve been to Matisse at other times and was looking forward to dinner, but am not likely to go back unless management makes some sound abatement changes. We chose to eat inside to avoid the Wisconsin Avenue traffic noise, but it was a relief to get out of the door. I hope it can be fixed.
