Had lunch and dinner at Matisse. The service both times was awesome and so was the food! The chef went out of his way to make my wife gluten and dairy free entrees that were amazing! I would totally recommend this restaurant!
Food was very good to good. Was happy with service but was disappointed the waiters did not offer to bring the birthday cake out out of the box. Rather they just put the unopened box on the table which I thought was very odd. I understand them not cutting and serving but not taking it out of the box?
Food and service were fine, but the payment was a hassle as the wireless terminal would not connect to complete the transaction which forced us to use USD to pay the CAD bill. Not sure the exchange was done correctly.
The dining room could do without the large TV sets. Perennial conversation killers, they belong more in a sports bar (if anywhere) and not at Matisse. Otherwise the service and the food were all fine.
I booked the Mother's Day brunch and it was abysmal. Absolutely no brunch, just a regular hotel brunch menu (no wonder it was easy to get a reservation 1 month ahead of the date). I booked for the location (easy to get to) and that was a huge mistake.
The servers were 'nice-ish', but the food (at a RIDICULOUS price point) was fair-to-middling.
Brunch was: 1 coffee x 2, shared 1 grilled calamari appetizer, 2 Caesar salads (1 with grilled chicken and 1 with grilled shrimp) - NO DESSERT and NO BOOZE = CAD$96 including tax. I almost screamed out loud when I read the bill.
Two words: never again.
Perfect for a quiet business meeting with large space, low noise, well plated food and unobtrusive staff.
Fantastic environment for that important business meeting.
I found the restaurant a bit chilli (temperature wise). It sits partitioned off from the hotel lobby; so, when someone comes in the front door, any cold wind finds it's way into the restaurant.
The food was average; service was okay; presentation was nice though.
Overall, I found the restaurant underwhelming; and probably won't go back.
Good quality food, very good service, and a comfortable room.
My companions and I ate from the Winterlicious menu. We all had the chicken. I found mine was a little dry, while another in my party felt her chicken was a bit pink and did not finish. My companion is gluten free so we believe her chicken was cooked separately and quickly.
The appetizers and desserts were fantastic.
Best winterlicious menu. Ordered garlic shrimp, steak and cream brûlée, all tasted good. High quality food and big portion
Excellent for a hotel dining room. Very modern. Ambiance is a little stark. The winterlicious menu was awesome and delicious.
We went for winterlicious and for some reason ( mostly the misleading photos) We thought it was a proper restaurant , but it is just a few tables set up in the lobby of The hotel. The food and service was ok - for a hotel- but this is by no means a restaurant that you go to have a night out !!! Absolutely no vibe and no nothing !
Went for winterlicious. Very big portions and tasted great! Restaurant is a bit cold, they could do with blasting the heat! Service was quick but waitress not over friendly. Overall was good.
Wonderful Winterlicious menu! The food is very well prepared and great service.
We had quick and easy service . All our servers were amazing and kind. Checked up on us but not very often which was nice.
Great food and service! Very accommodating to my allergies and the quality of the food was superb! Perfectly cooked and full of flavour!
Unfortunately it gets very noisy at lunchtime. Also it seems that you still have a problem with little flies.
Normally a solid restaurant, I brought a olleague and client here for lunch and they burned all three steaks. We ordered two medium rare and one medium warm. All three were well done.
Having been to Matisse before, the food was as good as in the past. The service not so much. Our bread was cleared without checking if we were finished with it. The waiter seemed somewhat curt, and brought us the bill without first asking if we wanted dessert or coffee! When he saw we were splitting the bill he came back charging us 50-50 and we had to correct that too. Since it was early evening and not very busy we were taken aback by this service. Lastly, the low deep chairs were uncomfortable.
Spent 1/2 of my meal swatting away 3-4 fruit flies that constantly hovered around my food. Complained to manager, but he walked away, unconcerned. If this restaurant has flies in the dining room, one can only imagine how overrun the kitchen must be with bugs. Supposed to be a professional hotel dining room, but I guess Mariott doesn't believe in pest control?
The food is always great here so as the service. We go there often with our co-workers. It's few minutes from my work so very convenient.
Small group arrived at different times. Once all present no one came to our table. Finally had to ask the manager to send a server over. Asked for water 3 times before receiving any. Had to ask to have our order taken. Others who arrived after us were served before us. $5 for a cup of coffee is a bit steep. Pretentious to refer to this hotel/restaurant as being in Yorkville. Food was mediocre at best. Unfortunate experience that left us convinced we would not return.
A local restaurant in a nearby hotel - not usually an obvious choice - but this one has great polite friendly service and a nicely varied menu with good quality food in generous quantity - good value for quality meal ! Third or fourth time we ate here - same staff always courteous and informative and eager to please
Our luncheon was fantastic as always!! Service, Food and ambiance with delicious!!
Although the menu was pricey, it's reasonable for a hotel restaurant. Not to mention, the food was excellent! No complaints from our party of 6!
This is my second time at this restaurant and the service, food and atmosphere have been top notch. I will be going back in the future and will recommend it to everyone I know.
Server was very great to make our reunion pleasant.
Good location. Nicely appointed hotel restaurant with friendly staff. Food was fine, but not exceptional. Somewhat overpriced, though presently strong US dollar takes some sting out of the bill. In my opinion, the restaurant is rather snooty for an establishment located in the Marriott lobby. there's no integrated rest rooms--one must exit the restaurant and use the hotel's facilities located across the lobby. Note that we arrived on a mid-week evening, late (post theater), and our below average experience may well have been skewed. While we almost certainly won't be returning, your experience at Matisse may well vary from ours.
The service was poor and the food not hot. Bad experience.
place was noise and is not a good atmosphere for a business meeting. Alarm sounded and I asked should I leave and response was no, we have alarm system problem- Ruined dinner meeting conversation. Manager told me we will take off % of your bill, but that was not the case.
NEVER WILL GO THERE AGAIN
The Chef at Matisse always goes out of his way to accommodate requests and the food is fantastic. Friendly staff that remember you making it a personal experience.
My opinion. Bof
I can t recommande this restaurant
The food was excellent. My friend and I do a summerlicious restaurant every year and this year it was my turn to choose the restaurant. I hit the jack pot. Our meals were absolutely outstanding. We started off with the shrimp appetizer. I had the steak & frits and my friend my friend had the chicken entree (local) and finished off with the pannacotta for me and the flourless chocolate cake for her with each a coffee to top it off. Great location and easy to access but a little difficult to find once your in the subway system as the signage just stops. Perhaps you need a larger sign saying 'Marriott Hotel' with an arrow going up the stairs with a map showing you where to go.....we both got lost but eventually found the restaurant. One of the best food experiences in a long time....kudos to the chef!
I had their summerlicious menu and it was really delicious. The steak was very well cooked. I would had liked our server to check up on us a little more (I.e. to refill our water), especially since it was only a couple tables all together when my friend and I went. But the place was really nice and the overall experience was great!
We visited Matisse on Sunday, July 8 for the first time as part of Summerlicious.
We ordered a variety of dishes from the Summerlicious menu: soup of the day, caesar salad, shrimp creole, salmon, chicken and steak frites. Everything was delicious and the service was excellent.
Some of our party arrived a little late, but the staff were incredibly accommodating. The service was great, albeit a bit slow at times, but the food was phenomenal. We went for the summerlicious lunch and were very satisfied with our meals! We didn't feel rushed or pressured through our meal like you sometimes do at other restaurants, which was refreshing. Highly recommended!
The food is awful, didn't get why it was highly rated in TripAdvisor. My daughter got sick right after ate their food, had to stay at hotel for the whole day!
Worst meal ever. Paid $30 for a salad with stale ingredients - the salad at Longos next door was far better. Embarrassed to be the one who suggested to bring clients there. Service was sub par, waiter often reaching over clients and interrupting us while we're in the middle of the conversation. Absolutely horrible. Do not go!
