I got the poulet frites with the spicy ketchup and the black and white dessert. The food was really good and the service was great, everyone was very professional and nice. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Brunch was lovely! Loved the eggs Benedict on brioche instead of the usual English muffin
Wonderful and festive anniversary lunch. Thanks so much for the champagne
In the mood
For super food?
This is the place
We were seated immediately and the restaurant was buzzing. While the food was very good and the service was great, it was VERY loud. Screaming at your dinner companions is never fun.
We thought we should mention that we were very disappointed about the limited brunch menu on The weekend. When making the reservation, we weren’t notified that the restaurant closed at 2:00 pm., or that the menu was limited. We would have chosen a different day and time had we known this info. Also, our server was nice but oddly quiet.
We are regulars at Mateo and have been a loyal patron for years, it is a great restaurant. But we have notice that the menu prices keep going up and drink pores keep becoming less and less, martinis are now half a glass which was never the case in the past.
All this brings into question the “value” and as a consumer we feel price has become elastic. The loss of two local patrons will probably not impact Mateo’s revenue for the moment but there very well might be a trend developing in local consumers.
Excellent lunch spot on the north end of Pearl Street
We love Mateo! Always a sweet place to meet friends and enjoy good food. Today was no exception as we had great soups and fresh salads, dressed perfectly. Mateo is always a good place for lunch, and dinner is also excellent.
The service was slow at best. Their ability to cook meat to the correct temperature is poor at best. I have ordered rare and received medium well. When my friend ordered medium well, he received medium rare.
Thumbs up on excellent Food and Service. Thumbs down on noise level. They have ceiling noise reducers, but apparently not enough.
Mateo provides a fun, relaxing venue that is not too big and not too noisy. The menu offers a unique selection.
Lovely and Low Key
A quiet table as requested, a fine wine list, great mussels, excellent service, in a well loved neighborhood favorite made for a perfect evening
I've eaten many times at Mateo over the years and it was great to return and find that they still have great food and service. I had the duck confit-my favorite food substance-and it was perfect. Butter lettuce salad was also lovely. Fairly quiet when we got there and pretty loud when we left, but still possible to carry on a conversation. One of the best restaurants in Boulder!
I don’t think I can go back to Mateo, the noise level was too loud for my family. I loved the food and location!
Fantastic food, great service and wonderful ambiance.
Took a friend for her birthday. They surprised us with two glasses of champagne at the table. A nice touch.
We shared the asparagus risotto and grilled shrimp along with a tossed salad with beets. It was all delicious.
Great coffee and wonderful service as well.
There’s a reason why Mateo is one of Boulder’s gems after 17 years. A fantastic menu, crisp, elegant service, and top-notch execution from the kitchen. It’s a new favorite.
Went to Mateo with my niece for a birthday brunch. The server brought us complimentary champagne for the birthday occasion. The food was solid, we had privacy and the servers were excellent.
I had been to Mateo's on a busy holiday last year, and I think because it was so busy, the service was not what I expected, but we decided to try it again this past week on a weeknight. There were just a few empty tables, but there were a good number of parties and the bar was half full on the evening that we went. The service was much better. We were seated quickly, provided water and offered other drinks immediately. Courses were served promptly but allowing time for one to linger over the delicious food. I had a duck confit special which was superb. Wines by the glass selection was very nice. I'll be back sooner next time! :-) Thank you, Mateo!
With all the choices in Boulder, Mateo is my very favorite for a romantic dinner date. I always feel very well cared for by the quietly personable and always professional staff. I'm a vegetarian, and there's always one innovative and delicious vegetarian dish for me and a host of good options (including upscale comfort food) for my non-vegetarian husband. I recommend beginning with one of Mateo's creative cocktails and sharing the cheese plate. The atmosphere is warm, the food is excellent, and Mateo does all of that without the pretense of other Boulder restaurants.
I love Mateo...it's a place that anyone can find an entree they love.
Matteo's is one of the best restaurants in Boulder. A wonderful Brasserie with great chicken, burgers, fries and charcuterie.
My wife and I have adopted this wonderful restaurant as our traditional special occasion go to dining establishment. The cuisine is exceptionally well prepared, the service outstanding, and the prices fair for the portions received. There is variety in the menu offering choices for your preferences from beef to fish, chicken or specialty items. Each meal is individually prepared to order and the presentation is excellent. We always make reservations as far in advance as we can because we have yet to go to Mateo and not experienced a full house.
We came for lunch. I heard that the chicken, (Poulet Frites), was popular so I decided to give it a try. The chicken itself was cooked to perfection with its nicely seared skin. The sauce was delicious. The salad and fries however, dumbed it down a bit. If I came back it would definitely be for the Colorado Lamb Ragu. This dish was outstanding! The Croque Monsieur, a typical French sandwich, was the most disappointing. It looked awful and tasted the same. And for a French restaurant the fries were worse than a fast food restaurant. I think Burger King and Wendy's have better fries. We did enjoy the Charcuterie plate and the Pate for starters. I was hoping for duck liver but they made it from chicken liver and it was quite tasty. The grilled and buttered bread served with it was fabulous. The Verte salad was nothing to write home about. It had a little too much salt on it as well. The Pot au creme with brownie and Caramel sauce was outstanding. I loved that it was not loaded with sugar. It was the perfect balance of everything. Kudos to the dessert chef. My 20-year-old inquired about non alcoholic drinks and all the waitress mentioned was Coke products. We then had a table discussion about whether they had coffee or whether anybody could spot a coffee pot behind the bar. There was nothing on the menu that indicated coffee or other non alcoholic drinks. I guess I don't understand why the waitress would not try to upsell. We were unsure if there were any specials either. This was Christmas Eve after all and a very special time of the year where people like to celebrate and eat. When the restaurant you choose to go to does not feel the same way it can be a bit disappointing. We did not hear about any particular wines, or other house specialties. The next time I choose a French restaurant I will choose elsewhere because I expect better.
Forrest was wonderful!
Each time, it’s just consistently great. Love Mateo.
I had the poulet frites for lunch. Great food always. And a good fun scene feels vibrant but not too noisy.
Great staff and excellent food. Nice place in boulder.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Mateo. The Happy Hour menu was extensive and great prices, the drinks are always unique and yummy/
The only thing I was really disappointed with was the wine choice. The food and service exceeded our expectations. The wine list seemed expensive. One of our servers suggested an Domaine A. & P. de Villaine 2016 Mercury “Les Montots” Burgundy at $120 a bottle. It seemed too closed to enjoy. But all else was good.
We have made a tradition of coming here every year for lunch for my friends birthday. In fact I’ve been coming here for 15 years. If today had been my only experience I would never have returned. The service timing was off. The Croque Monsieur was dry and over cooked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp. They were out of a dessert we wanted, never offered coffee and never acknowledged my friends birthday. A big disappointment when other years and other visits have been so great. I find it odd that the owner was there and he never came to address the meal I sent back or notice how long my friends food sat in the table before the server finally came to ask if she wanted a box. I hope this is not the future of Mateo.
My main concern is that although the food was tasty it was a bit pricey for what it was. A simple lunch salad which was a bit small was $19.00. I would hesitate to go for lunch again any time soon.
Son’s birthday. Excellent waitress! Excellent food. Only down side was difficult to converse because it was so noisy.
Food was great, service was very friendly, time between apps and enteees was a bit long.
Steak frites were pure gristle. Worst cut of meat. I’m pretty sure the chef is vegan.
Mateo always serves delicious steak and frites, their brunch always has tasty bites. A favorite for sure!
Noise level is outrageous! Totally unable to have a conversation. Left with headache!
