Celebrating my daughter's 12th birthday. The team at Mateo went out of there way to make it a special occasion. Great food, great dribks and great service.
We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. The last time I had dinner there I thought it was just so-so, but this time it was absolutely delicious. Will definitely be going back again! My only complaint is that the portions were small for the price. A fistful portion of Risotto was $24 - expensive but very tasty.
It was wonderful!!! If we lived here, this would be one of our go to places. Had the chicken dish which was perfect. Everything about the place was terrific.
Absolutely fantastc service - but more important were the wonderfully presented and super savory dishes. The Moules Provencal appetizer (mussels) were incredible (the sauce could have been an amazing soup). I rarely order chicken at restaurants, but their pan seared Poulet Frites is now on my favorites list. The trout and also seared ahi were also dishes I'd now recommend to friends.
This is one of our favorite Boulder restaurants. We usually begin with a signature cocktail (excellent), and the cheese plate (always great selections), and then we enjoy a main course. I’m a vegetarian, and although there’s usually only one vegetarian selection on the official menu, it’s always a delicious choice, and it’s never the boring pasta primavera of other restaurants with one vegetarian option. Each bite is to savor, so make sure you have time to eat slowly to thoroughly enjoy the whole experience.
Incredible service!! Our waiter is one of the best servers I've ever had. We had asked for accommodations and they were honored and we felt respected due to the waiter's kindness. They are able to honor gluten free and dairy free requests. Yay!
Second time to Mateo, and once we were seated, everything was great. The only odd thing was that us and 2 other parties showed up for 6:45 reservations, and no table were available. They said there were early diners who stayed a long time, but seems to me, that for 6:45 reservations, they simply tried to snake a few people in without enough time to have the tables available. But we did get a free drink and were seated by 7:15. Other than that, no complaints!
Lovely location for a Father's Day celebration. We went the night before so we could enjoy the delicious dinner menu. Each of us had a different favorite, which is always a good sign.
Great atmosphere. We’ve wanted to try this place for years and finally got around to it. Sat out back on the patio... very nice. Service was slow. Took 15 minutes or more to get our drink order. Waitress seemed confused or on something. Disappeared a lot. Back Walters we’re excellent (should be main servers!). Food was good. Not in any hurry to return.
I think that prices have gone up and portions have gotten smaller. Too bad. The pasta dish had very little pasta. The chicken was outstanding as usual.
Sat on the patio and had a late lunch with a friend. Service and atmosphere was excellent. Food was also excellent. I thought prices were good too. I'd go back for dinner in a second but I imagine it would be a bit more expensive.
This was my first time ever to Mateo after living in Boulder for 20 years. I had a wonderful meal and the ambience was perfect! Mateo is now in my top five places to go in downtown Boulder.
This was my second time eating at Mateo and I am excited to return again. They offer a short but wonderful menu and each meal is prepared beautifully. The staff are wonderful and professional. I recommend this restaurant to everyone I know.
We celebrated my daughter's high school graduation at Mateo this past weekend. Our waitress was so wonderful and attentive. The food was excellent and we all had an enjoyable afternoon!
Another great meal at Mateo!
My partner and I are regular patrons and have been for years. We probably have dinner there once a week. I ordered the steak frites and she ordered poulet frites. The steak was ordered medium and came well done. Mateo usually always serves excellent food. Without any hesitation Mateo took the price of the steak dish off our bill. Needless to say we will continue to have dinner at Mateo weekly. Excellent restaurant!
We had a great dining experience. It was a very busy graduation weekend but had reservations and were seated immediately. The food, from appetizers to dessert was excellent and all the servers were friendly, and attentive. Thank you for a nice experience. Will definitely be back.
Service was okay, food was nothing special.
Loved the platter Provençal, the gnocchi, and the poulet frites. Very good service. Went there for our 22nd wedding anniversary. Looking forward to going again.
I made a reservation for our anniversary. We arrived early and got the worst table in the room. Table was so bad, in fact, we couldn’t even fit our chairs at it comfortably. We asked for a different table but were told they were being saved for other patrons. We ended up leaving as this was not the celebration we had in mind.
Perfection!!! Everything was cooked perfectly and was delicious. Risotto was the standout. It was amazing.
Consistently great food and professional service. It's a long-time favorite restaurant in Boulder!
Food was excellent as usual. Service was poor. The server did not even offer us desert.
The Food was very good. The service was great. The noise level was loud and while they have noise damping panels on the ceiling more needs to be added. My wife had the special and thought it was excellent. I had the Chicken and fries. Plenty of fries a little more chicken would have been nice. The bread was fresh and the best I have had in a local place.
The food was excellent and the service was great. The table cloth should have been changed before I had to ask after we were seated. After that we had a lovely Easter lunch. I look forward to another dining experience in the future.
Absolutely delicious! Wine pairing was wonderful, We'll be back!
We try to eat at Mateo whenever in Boulder. It’s consistently delicious.
Great old fashion and fries!
Loved the food and service! We will be back!
Service and food was good. Very noisy for conversation. Small portions.
Dining alone but service at the bar was great and food was fantastic!
Mateo is one of my go-tos. I’ve never had a dish I’ve been disappointed with. Highly recommend the steak frites (be sure to ask for some garlic aioli for the French fries). The brunch menu is also incredible, especially the Huevos Rancheros.
My main complaint is the noise levrl. With the bar and tables so close together, it was very difficult to hsve a conversation. The outdoor space is quieter but in cool weather not pleasant, even with heaters.
Mateo is the stalwart of the Boulder dining scene. Consistently very good, like a loyal and trusted friend, it is always there for you and never lets you down. Others come and go but when you need a port in a storm, Mateo is a welcome bolt hole.
My husband and I were enjoying a rare date night and had a gift card for Mateo. The service was excellent, we were seated promptly and the sommelier came over to assist us as soon as he saw us looking at the wine menu. The food was outstanding- we highly recommend the moules Provençal with frites, the lobster ravioli and the peppered ahi tuna. Sadly we were too full for dessert but it was a delightful meal.
The chicken and steak dishes were wonderful, as always. Wait staff friendly and efficient.
The place was mostly empty until well after 10am. This was not terrible but the music kept stopping and the silence was noticable. The food was good, although the quiche portion was quite small. The wait staff was kind and attentive.
Mateo is one of my favorite places. However the lunch menu has become boring and looks more like a breakfast menu. Our food tasted like the cook had become bored with making it. I'll wait until the menu is refreshed before returning for lunch.
The valentines special was really expensive considering the number of courses and portion sizes.
