Matchbox - Rockville Ratings and Reviews
I took a client there for lunch. I had requested a quiet booth. The place was not full, but the hostess tried to give us a table in the back next to a large group. We asked to be re-seated and were. This is not the first time. They don't have a big attention span there.
The food was good, but the 3 courses arrived to fast, one after the other, before we had finished the previous course. We felt rushed for no apparent reason.
Went for Restaurant Week lunch special. Slight wait for reserved table at 1pm but ok. 3 burger appetizer ordered as medium rare and medium. Both came well done. Service VERY slow. Start to finish was over 2 hours. Check came wrong (with added entree on bill). Visit not entered on our rewards account.
We went to Matchbox on Saturday night and it was very packed. Although we had a reservation, we were told it would be a 10 to 15 minute wait. We tried to have a drink at the bar and were met with a very rude bartender. She ignored us completely several times and then told us she would get us a drink but first had to check on her other tables as she was waiting on the tables in the bar as well. A few minutes later, she handed us menus and told us we had better order because they were so busy they were had shut down the kitchen. We inquired with the hostess and she said that wasn't true and oddly, we were immediately seated. My husband is not eating carbs and requested that the potatoes for his salmon be replaced with asparagus. His salmon arrived with no seasoning, just the salmon and the asparagus. When we asked, we were told that you could not do substitutions. We will not be back.
A fine dinner on a cold winter's evening with lots of options for all the different tastes in our family. We were seated at a booth in the bar area and it worked out just fine. The waiter was attentive and timely and the food quality was excellent from the appetizer to the salad and steak frites
I used to love Matchbox but I was really disappointed in my experience this past weekend. Service took forever. I ordered table bread for my kids and it came 40 minutes later after having to ask again. My soup was lukewarm but had pieces of cold vegetables in it.
Ordered an appetizer, and entrees. We got the entrees, my date’s order was completely the wrong dish despite being on the ticket correctly, and had to be corrected. After waiting for her new dish to be made and her food finally coming out, we realized that the appetizer never came. We had to ask twice about it, and they brought it way after we had finished our food. The food was good, but not enough to make up for the poor service.
The place is overhyped. I went here on two separate occasions and the pizza was mediocre. The service was slow. The first time was in they day their system was down and they had to do everything manually. I gave them the benefit of the doubt when they were excruciatingly slow. They didn’t even refill my water. The next time, their system was not down and they were slow anyway, slower than the first time, if that’s at all possible. For example, we had been there for so long that we didn’t even want to wait for dessert and asked for the check and the dessert to go. The check took 10 min to come out and the dessert took an additional 30 min. Did they start baking it when we asked for the check? Obviously not, but it was long enough to bake the dessert from scratch. I’m never coming here again. The food is mediocre, the service is slow, and they are expensive for such a poor experience. The only saving grace is the exposed brick walls. The chairs are uncomfortable and after waiting for so long to get my check and food to go, my back even started to hurt. What a trash place.
We walked in and there were no customers. Approached the hostess podium and we were not even acknowledged by the hostess. Another young lady came around the corner and they spoke...we are still not being acknowledged. I finally spoke up and said we had reservations. She looked at other hostess... mumbled something. We we're seated and joked that that was a terrible start- First impressions go far. Thank goodness our waitress was fantastic (Selena).
Its a great locals spot for a quick bite or a long nicer dinner. We usually go to the side bar that connects to the outside and thankfully can close off from the cold in the winter. The servers and bartenders are very friendly and knowledgeable. They are best known for their creative pizzas, but don't overlook their other sandwiches and entrees. While they don't have a huge beer/wine list, they offer a lot of great local beers and rotate the selection frequently.
Our server was GREAT! We love the ambiance. My cheese pizza was good and my husband enjoyed his chicken sandwich. But....the $12.50 for the Arancini (which was 3 large balls) was NOT worth it. It wasn't as flavorful as Arancini I have had elsewhere and the rice was gummy. Other than that, all was well.
My sister and I had a late dinner on New Year's night at Matchbox-Rockville. It was very quiet with few customers...a very cold evening and people must have been staying at home. This is the first time I've been there were it wasn't packed.
We split a prime rib French dip and Calamari. Both were delicious! The Calamari was very tender and had a sweet/hot jalapeno pepper jelly dip that was a delicious accompaniment. The prime rib French dip was very tender and well trimmed - the way we like it, very lean.
Our Server was very pleasant and efficient. Since no one was around, we chatted with him a few minutes. Couldn't ask for better service!
We definitely will return and also tell our friends about our experience.
Very disorganized at the front desk. Had a reservation but had to wait. Special request was ignored. When requesting a different table, organization fell apart completely until the manager stepped in and resolved the issue. Training is needed. "If I let you sit here I'll get in trouble with my boss" is not appropriate. The table server was excellent, food was excellent.
I have been to Matchbox multiple times in the past. It is usually an enjoyable experience. On this day the service was horrible. The room was freezing, it took an unusually long time for our appetizer to come out. The appetizer arrived just before our entrees. The order was wrong, the wrong pizza was brought for my daughter and my son's steak was well done when he had requested medium. The glass of wine that I ordered to come with my meal never arrived and was just dropped from the order. They were clearly having issues for a fairly empty restaurant. I hope this is not a harbinger of things to come as we always found it a reliable place to eat in terms of the food and service.
We were very disappointed with our experience. This is a nice place with great decor, and we had eaten here a couple times in the past. We booked a reservation for Christmas Eve with the expectation that service might be a little slower because it was a holiday. Our server was very friendly and pleasant to deal with, but the service was sub-par. She didn't bring out one of the items we ordered. One of our party requested that his salad be served prior to his meal, and this request was not honored. The quality of the food was fair at best. The entree dinners were barely cooked, and the pizza sauce was too spicy. The manager on duty was extremely kind and removed the pizza from our bill, but the whole experience was less than average. We will not return to this restaurant and would not recommend it for anything other than drinks at the bar.
My friend and I had lunch at Matchbox. There was no welcoming at check-in and we were grudgingly given a booth as we asked for a quieter location. It did not take long to order our food, however, it took almost 50 minutes for each of us to get our salad. No comment from the server on the delay. I had the chicken Cobb salad; it had about half the chicken it typically has.
Yes the the restaurant was busy, but that's no excuse for the delay and rudeness.
Sliders are good with onion strings but no thousand island dressing at Matchbox. Might just be my opinion but I think a lot of people like this rather than ketchup. Pizza was very average.
They serve holiday specialty drinks but they’re only available at the patio bar. The waiter couldn’t take my drink order so I had to walk over to the patio bar, order my drink, pay for it and bring it back to my table. Such nonsense!
I was very disappointed. 1. The hostesses were rude. 2. Had a reservation but was given a pager to wait for a table. (The restaurant was not full at all.) 3. The back room where you have the tables for 8 was freezing cold. No one took off their coat. 4. My nephew had a hair baked into his pizza. 5. My daughter's crust on her pizza was burnt. 6. My salad had a lot of brown lettuce leaves. 7. IT WAS MY DAUGHTER'S 16th BIRTHDAY AND NO ONE ACKNOWLEDGED IT. I even wrote down, when I made the reservation, that we were going to matchbox to celebrate my daughter's 16th birthday and also mentioned it to the waiter.
On the other hand, the appetizers were delicious and my husband loved his meal.
