Matchbox - Rockville Ratings and Reviews
I was very disappointed. 1. The hostesses were rude. 2. Had a reservation but was given a pager to wait for a table. (The restaurant was not full at all.) 3. The back room where you have the tables for 8 was freezing cold. No one took off their coat. 4. My nephew had a hair baked into his pizza. 5. My daughter's crust on her pizza was burnt. 6. My salad had a lot of brown lettuce leaves. 7. IT WAS MY DAUGHTER'S 16th BIRTHDAY AND NO ONE ACKNOWLEDGED IT. I even wrote down, when I made the reservation, that we were going to matchbox to celebrate my daughter's 16th birthday and also mentioned it to the waiter.
On the other hand, the appetizers were delicious and my husband loved his meal.
Reservation was for 6 -- table wasn't ready until 6:25. Table was very cold. When we asked the hostess if she could do anything, she told us we could go back to waiting for another table to be ready. Had to eat with our coats and scarfs on. Food was good though.
My son's hamburger, ordered "medium," came rare. We sent it back and the next one was also uncooked in the middle. When I told the waiter that we were going to take it home and cook it, he responded that he was sorry they messed it up again. However, he did not offer any resolution. They even charged for the birthday dessert!
We were back in the Rockville area and wanted a place that we could meet ol friends at before flying out. We were seated in a bAck room which was great for privacy but had no atmosphere. I felt very disconnected from the restaurant.
We felt like the waitress was not interested in serving us. Her attitude was just flat. Although the pizzas were delicious, all the salads, re: leafy greens were tired and not fresh. I wanted & expected better. Just okay.
We occasionally go to Matchbox in Rockville when we're up that way shopping or whatnot. We met some friends who were down from PA staying at a hotel near Matchbox, so we suggested we meet there for adult beverages and dinner. The service was just right for a casual dinner and the dinner menu was perfect for our various tastes...
This particular Matchbox Pizza location has really deteriorated in the last 2 years! It used to be a really well run, fan service and great food ‘pizza restaurant’ now it’s like a typical American bar food-hall!! With pizza as second choice. The service is lacklustre and the ambiance is loud. It used to be our favourite place to go! Not any more....
Food and services was good, but we were seated in the glass-fronted bar area, which was too cold and too loud (football was on the TV). Entrees are tasty and reasonably priced, but the drinks are over-priced; my bottom shelf martini was billed at $12 (a recurring theme for me). The churros are delicious!
On all our previous visits the servers have been so pleasant. This visit the server was not.
Also, she brought the check and we had not requested it and members of our group had not finished their lunch, also never asked if we'd like coffee or dessert before just dropping the check on our table. The food was good. The young man who brought out the food was very pleasant and sweet, however.
Yummy Sunday brunch! Love the menu selections and prices. We had the huevos rancheros, chicken and waffles, and the crab bene. All were great, but especially the crab bene. Instead of an english muffin, it's a crabcake with a poached egg on top with hollandaise sauce. There was also a slice of brioche topped with homefries and bacon with arugula garnish (see picture). We also enjoyed a delicious blackberry Bellini. Can't wait to go back!
Unfortunately, we had a bad experience this time around. We did not receive all of our order and our waiter seemed to be overwhelmed. They did remove the two meals that came 15-20 minutes after the others. However, I let them know in advance that we were celebrating my daughter’s 8th birthday, but they did not accommodate my request and after dinner took so long, we left. They are normally very good, so I recognize this may have been an “off” night. However, it will be a while before I visit again!
Matchbox has become a very reliable restaurant for good pizzas and general menu items. The menu has been pared back and a few of the items, such as their popular Mozzi Carozzi, are missing. The food is, however, generally good, and the ambiance is pleasant.
The pizzas and hot entrees here are very good. I don't recommend the salads though. I've ordered different ones that last 2 times here and was disappointed both times. They don't have much to them beyond the greens and tend to be flavorless.
They have a beautiful fire pit outside for when the weather is ok, but we arrived on a beautiful October evening and they were not allowing anyone to sit at or near the fire pit because they didn't have a server assigned to that area.
This matchbox is one of the worst for service when you arrive. We had a reservation and still waited 20 minutes to get a seat while people who walked in right before us without reservations got seated before us. The food is amazing and our waiter was really good at least. The pizza and salads are really good...its just the reservation system is bad.
