Matchbox - Rockville
New at matchbox: brunchbox, our new unlimited brunch with small plates and drinks. Think: an endless selection of dishes like our avocado toast, breakfast nachos, chicken + grits and, of course, any of our small pizzas
A titan of a space, Rockville was modeled after a hunting lodge yet still manages to feel cozy.
A comfortable fireplace fills the space, as well as two wood-fired ovens that churn out thin-crust pizzas in minutes. With two outdoor patios and the private 30-seat Congressional Room, there’s plenty of space for intimate dinners, large parties and get-togethers.

Another great Matchbox experience. The food was exceptional...quick to arrive, flavorful, hot and good to the last bite. Anytime you give back 5 completely empty plates, 3 of which came from kids, that is success.
Service was top notch, especially given the fact that it was Valentine's Day. Again, not a surprise, but appreciated.
Once they get their fireplace working again, the "warmth" of the back room will be back to 5 stars as well.
Nice office break for lunch with a colleague.
Very attentive server. Meal was great but prices on the high side compared to other locak restaurants. Sent back a glass because it wasnt clean but over all we had a pleasant time.
Had a great time. Our server Josh did a great job.
Terrific food, beautiful venue (huge!!!) and great service! Some of the best pizza and a great fresh salad! Nice quiet section of the restaurant so we were able to have conversation and enjoy.
This was my first time at this location. I normally eat at the one in Merrifield near my job. The service was subpar. We had to constantly reach out the server several times to request more drinks and refill waters. He was not attentive.
We were a party of 4 adults and 2 preschoolers who had come to Matchbox specifically for the a la carte brunch we had seen on the website. We arrived to discover that they only had a very expensive all-you-eat brunch in addition to their regular lunch menu. I ended up having a fig and prosciutto pizza which I didn't really want which gave me indigestion for the next couple of days. Others were okay with their orders, it just didn't meet our desire that day.
First time it was good
Excellent except pricey for casual restaurant. Would not return if I’m paying!
Servers were forgetful and seemed confused. Recommend training. Love that you accommodate large groups. The brunch small plates were wonderful!
Good food at a good price; service was friendly and prompt.
We enjoyed another fun dinner at the Rockville location. It was my sons’ birthday party (turning 9) and this was their request. Loved the 3-6-9 mini burgers and (double) pepperoni pizza!
We love Matchbox for the food. The pizza (and the bread) is always so good. But the ambience and service in the suburban locations isn’t the same vibe as the ones in DC or Mosaic. Now it feels like another TGI Fridays with screaming kids and lost waiters. We waited fifteen minutes for our waiter, another fifteen to order drinks, and then another fifteen to hear that the bar was out of sweet vermouth, so no serious cocktails. Service picked up after that, but unlikely we’ll go back to the Rockville (or Ashburn) locations.
Went for a catch-up lunch with a friend I hadn't seen in a while. We enjoyed the food, the service was very good, and the booth where we sat was quiet enough for a lot of conversation.
There was a snafu in the kitchen and our food order was messed up, the small plates at brunch were very slow to come, coming cold, wrong, missing. The manager did get involved and she was awesome about getting it fixed but it was a long meal of waiting and fixes. We would come back for dinner/happy hour but might skip brunch
Went for bottomless brunch. Had a good time but did not get to taste many items as they never arrived. Out bill did have 27 food items but we probably only got a total of 15 items. Did not get to try shrimp and grits, mini burgers or Nashville chicken. Disappointed
Enjoyed all you can eat brunch
Tapas style brunch was fantastic for about $30. Also $3 mimosas went well with our meal. Luke is a great server!
Lovely atmosphere for friends to gather together !
The food was great but the service was incredible. Our waiter was Tee and if you can get him, he will take great care of you. I highly recommend the lettuce wedge. Wow it was sooooo good.
Service was great. Some of the food was cold, i.e. onion straws and one of the sandwiches.
Really good pizza. Decor is indifferent and it is loud like a barn. Not fine dining but really good pizza
Outstanding "bottomless" all you can eat brunch! And... $3 mimosas and other breakfast cocktails!!
Late night wholesomeness
First time sitting near the bar. Much louder and hard to have a conversation and the service is slower than in the main part of the restaurant. Food is always consistent and flavorful. We come here often and will make a note to request seating elsewhere next time.
Matchbox is a reliable go-to restaurant. They have great salads, and their pizzas are delightful. Based upon the diners the night we went to the restaurant, it is a popular place for families. I am always able to get a good meal at a reasonable cost. Service also tends to be fast and efficient.
Į had a great Birthday celebration there. Couldn’t ask for anything better.
Sorry but the food was very disappointing...greasy and just not what I remembered (first time I’ve been there in quite some time)
We were seated in a wonderfully comfortable booth near the lovely fireplace. Food was very good as always and our server was extraordinarily attentive!
We had a good meal took a long time to get our pizza out but it was delicious.
It was very cold inside the restaurant. Most of us kept our coats on.
Matchbox has always been one of my favorite places to grab lunch prior to events at the Strathmore Music Hall. Service and the food has typically been wonderful. This visit I found the pizza to be dry and the service to be non existent. My salad, which was explicitly requested as an appetizer showed up with my meal, our server was no where to be found, even when waiting to pay the bill and seemed to be clueless. I'm willing to write this off as a one time bad experience, but do hope this hasn't become the new norm.
Birthday party, brunch. Service was great, food was delicious. Will definitely come back many times!
Early brunch on a Sunday was great. The shrimp and grits were delicious. It's a little pricey (even for bottomless small plates) unless you really like to just completely overeat, but as a once-in-a-while treat, it was fine. My only wish it that there were a couple more savory options that didn't include any meat.
This was my first time trying the brunch box and it was fantastic.
Booked with open table but had to wait 20 minutes for table.
As usual, a good experience. For the first time in ages I ordered a burger. The fries weren’t great, they were undercooked and mushy. I was glad I ordered a side of onion straws, good as usual. Also I wish the 5 oz burger returns at least to the lunch menu. The 8 oz (or over?) is too big and I ended up not eating half of it
We try to dine at Matchbox at least once a week. This time I had the salmon, which is always great. We also had spicy meatball pizza, simple salad, and my favorite-coffee and donuts. Love Matchbox - have never been disappointed since they opened.
We really enjoyed our meal. The ginourmous meatball was delicious. We were there for an office lunch. Everything was delicious.
The menu had changed since the last time I ate there. The Cobb salad was my go to, but it has been modified. No Blue Cheese, no bacon. Instead, corn and fried chicken. Good but I liked the old version better.
