Matchbox - Rockville
New at matchbox: brunchbox, our new unlimited brunch with small plates and drinks. Think: an endless selection of dishes like our avocado toast, breakfast nachos, chicken + grits and, of course, any of our small pizzas
A titan of a space, Rockville was modeled after a hunting lodge yet still manages to feel cozy.
A comfortable fireplace fills the space, as well as two wood-fired ovens that churn out thin-crust pizzas in minutes. With two outdoor patios and the private 30-seat Congressional Room, there’s plenty of space for intimate dinners, large parties and get-togethers.

My friend and I ordered Cesar salads with chicken. Both came without the chicken. Had to send back. Start over.
Server inattentive. Took forever to get the check and pay.
Noise level makes it very hard to hear your dining companion. I requested a booth in the bar because it’s the quietest part of this restaurant but of course they ignored this. Put us in The back room with a table of over 20 people yelling from one end to the other.
All in all an unpleasant experience. Won’t go back.
Food was good, but the service wasn’t great. Our server did not seem very happy or motivated to help us. She was hard to find at times. Will return for the food but the service was a big disappointment.
James was an amazing server and very knowledgeable. The blueberry muffin French toast was unique and delicious. I can’t wait to visit again.
Had out of town friends who were here on business. We did not ask for check to be split at beginning but realized later our friend would need receipt for reimbursement. Server graciously split check. He was also very attentive
LOVE sitting outside! LOVE happy hour! FUN vibe!
Food is very yummy! Everyone enjoyed their meal! I particularly loved the Salmon & Spinach Salad!! So good!
The service was horrible even though the food is good. We waited for everything for a very long time and rarely saw the server. It was my worst e Perot CE here.
Our server was super friendly and very attentive. As usual the food and drinks were delicious.
Beautiful evening to sit outside. Very nice waiter. Then the harsh canister lights overhead came on... no way to dim them. Then a fire alarm went off and firetruck had to come turn off. Fortunately all was fine!
This is a great place to eat, but the service is lacking. I asked for their crispy chicken sandwich with Nashville Hot. What came out was the regular sandwich. Didn't want to wait for a new sandwich. It wasn't even busy, and they can't get an order right. Makes me question if they even care about service.
Dessert menu was lacking
Always a great restaurant that we enjoy for lunch or dinner.
This is one my favorite Matchbox locations. The food was good and the server was on top of the food and the drink refills.
could use more options to make the unlimited brunch worth the cost..
The waiter took a very long time to come to the table but was friendly when he did show up. Once our order was taken the food came out reasonably fast, but my pizza's crust was so soggy and thin that it was impossible to eat without rolling it up. The other pizzas we ordered seemed OK. For the prices I expected better.
The food was great, but the server, James, made the evening so enjoyable.
The lemon cake was the best.
I found the dinner portions to be small compared to their fellow restaurants
Any and all of the Matchbox locations in DC, MD & VA are great!
Great service, good food, pleasant atmosphere.
Had the best gluten free chicken pesto ever and our waitress was the best! Amazing service.
We arrived at the restaurant for a 4:30 p.m. reservation. Obviously it was in the middle of a shift change for staff. The service was mediocre. We waited for 15-20 minutes before anyone approached our table. Better provisions should be made to appropriately address ALL customers regardless of the time in which they make a reservation.
We hadn't been here in a while but were pleasantly surprised. Service was great and the pizzas were amazing. Definitely better than a few years ago.
Unusually slow at Matchbox tonight. Took 30 minutes to get drinks and another long wait for appetizer ordered at the same time and again for our entree pizzas. No one ever came back to check on us. Mini burgers were delicious as always, however, as was the fast arriving brownie sundae.
I went to matchbox to celebrate my birthday and it was a lovely experience. The restaurant aesthetic was beautiful and the location was very nice. I had the crabcakes with old Bay fries and coleslaw and they were delicious!
The staff greet you at the front door. Seat you at a table and the service I found to be excellent. I ordered the Salmon and Spinach Salad which is delicious. A lot of families were present at this time. Even though the restaurant was full, the noise level was tolerable. We didn't have to strain to talk.
My server was great I couldn’t ask for anything thing more.
Our waitress Keisha was great - we sat outside - had drinks and appetizers for happy hour - the weather was great-I would definitely recommend Matchbox for Happy Hour
It was too warm in the restaurant. Service was slow, even though the servers were pleasant. We had more than one server, which was confusing, and neither told us their names. The small specials menu did not describe the specials nor did it tell us how much the specials were. The music is always too loud at this Matchbox but it was not as bad on that particular evening as it had been on previous visits. Other Matchbox locations are better all around - I would think that being a bigger and less busy location on Wednesday evening would mean we might get BETTER service than usual, not worse. Still, it was not an unpleasant evening, just a little disappointing.
i like the food at Matchbox even though they've changed a few things... however, the noise level is out of control. you can't even talk to the person next to you without yelling. Very disruptive.
I enjoy this place and it has great food. However, I was very disappointed this time. The pizza wasn't served hot. The salad came out incorrectly. The waitress did well at the beginning of the service, then she was not as attentive. The appetizer (artichoke and spinach dip) was the served well. We order the appetizer, then waited for a while to order the rest of the meal. The cost of food seemed to go up. As a result, I would not go back there again.
Enjoyed the Labor Day Brunch; would definitely go back for the Brunch!
The experience was great. Two members of our group of four were visiting for the first time. Everyone was pleased with their selection. Matchbox even gave the first timers a free appetizer!
Always great and we always come back to the restaurant.
Yes, I would recommend going to Marchbox to a friend but not for brunch or especially not Bloody Mary’s. The food was very good, small plates, nice presentation and tasty but it wasn’t worth the $103 total for two people including tax and two drinks but not tip. We ordered 2 drinks which were extra which I am OK paying as long as they are good but what we got was watered down Bloody Mary’s that were not mixed (and no straw OR anything to mix it with). It wasn’t terribly busy but yet we couldn’t seem to get anything without asking several times for (like silverware or something to stir our drinks with. When we wanted to order our second round of brunch, we waited a long time before our server came around. We arrived at 12:45 and didn’t leave until after 3pm and a lot of that time was spent waiting for service. It was a lovely day and we were sitting outside which helped but not enough. We will perhaps go back at some point for dinner but never again for brunch.
We sat outside, so that was nice, but I'm tired of their food. The isn't a lot of variety.
The food was great!!
Went in for brunch with friends and had a great time. It was Saturday morning so it wasn't too hectic, plus we were sitting inside as I'm guessing most people asked to be seated outside since it was a wonderful day. Our server Karina was fantastic. Helped us through the brunch menu, suggested drinks, and came back to check up on us often so we never needed anything at any time. but wasn't intrusive in any way. Thank you Karina for making our visit to Matchbox so great and relaxing!
very good great service food is pricey But in line with Washington DC prices
Pizza was over cooked, dry and luke warm, not even close to coming straight out of the oven. Hamburger was Luke warm and fries were burnt and cold. Food took a long time, maybe the food was left under heaters? Also waiter (nice) was all over the place, always in a hurry running past us many times and never stopping. Food was dropped off and waiter never returned until I asked for the check. Never asked if we wanted needed another drink, (so could not order another beer) never asked how our food was...just too busy. 3 people, waiter took one persons drink order and quickly ran off before the other two could speak. When we were able to put our drink order in, beers were delivered unopened and without requested glasses. After drinks were dropped off and waiting for glasses a waiter ran by untwisted one beer and ran off, then the glasses were delivered. It was all a series off rushed events and that made for a horrible dining experience. Very disappointing, we have been there before and never experienced anything close to both this type of bad service or bad food.
And to boot it was the last meal with our daughter before sending her off tho college, very sad.
Should have talked with Manager but just needed to get out.
Tom and family.
