Matchbox - Rockville
New at matchbox: brunchbox, our new unlimited brunch with small plates and drinks. Think: an endless selection of dishes like our avocado toast, breakfast nachos, chicken + grits and, of course, any of our small pizzas
A titan of a space, Rockville was modeled after a hunting lodge yet still manages to feel cozy.
A comfortable fireplace fills the space, as well as two wood-fired ovens that churn out thin-crust pizzas in minutes. With two outdoor patios and the private 30-seat Congressional Room, there’s plenty of space for intimate dinners, large parties and get-togethers.

Staff was pleasant and attentive. The food did not seem to match the quality I experienced in prior dining at this location and the location in Penn Quarter. The food was good, just not outstanding as it had been before. For example, my wife said her salmon lacked seasoning.
We had family visiting from out of town and we ordered the unlimited brunch for everyone. The server was attentive, professional and friendly. Our food came out quickly. Everything about the experience was stellar!
No going back. Mediocre food - extremely overpriced drinks. Done with Matchbox.
Our waitress was friendly and attentive and had great customer service skills! Great to get a seat by the fireplace! Thank you!
Polite evening. Khadijah was attentive and very nice. Great food as always.
The restaurant was not full at all, yet there was a 30 minute wait. Luckily we had reservations, but we still had to wait to be seated for about ten minutes. After we ordered, the waiter came back to let my husband know that they did not have any pepperoni for his pizza, and he'd have to change his order. Once our dinner arrived, we had to wait to eat because there were no utensils on the table. We told our waiter, as well as the food runner, and it took a long time. I ordered the ahi tuna salad for dinner. The portion of salad was so small and there were only 5 small medallions of tuna. I eventually had to walk to the hostess stand to ask them to find our waiter so we could get the check. Terrible experience and really creepy vibe. Will never go back there again. Ever.
The waitress was great. Unfortunately we received an undercooked order of salmon. The waitress was more than happy to oblige. The manager came by and asked how we wanted the fish cooked which was odd since the fish was still half raw. We proceeded our answer and said it would be done right away and in 15 min. 30 minutes later with our waitress continuously checking on us the fish hadn’t arrived. The manager also had seemed to disappear and as we were leaving the fish entree was ready. Besides the issue with one plate it was a good experience.
Good experience as Always.
We were here for brunch. Food was very good. The all you can eat brunch was pricey at $31.50 & did not include any drink, not even non alcoholic. Even worse was that you could get select alcohol drinks with brunch for $3 but soda and tea costs $3.25. While it's a small amount of money it's a very bad optic and should not be the case. If non alcohol drinks were included then the price would be tolerable.
Matchbox is a great place to go with friends. We like the pizza and they have a lot of different kinds. There are a lot of good places to sit, but some spots are very loud.
Certain items that were received could've been hotter but overall everything was great.
Menu has something for everyone - it's a little loud because it's so big and the ceilings are high, but it still feels cozy. Our lemon cake for dessert was excellent!
I enjoyed the crab avo and the pizza! The prices were reasonable and I will be back.
I've been to this location many times, and always have had a good experience, except for last Friday. Service was just okay, and the private dining room in the back should not be used for regular dining in the evenings. The space is very loud and very bright. Also, for the first time one of our pizzas was disappointing. The crust was just so-so, and the generous and beautiful pile of arugula that used to enhance the cremini mushroom pie was reduced to a few pieces of arugula that looked like they were left over from the week. Not what you expect from a gourmet pizza restaurant that charges gourmet prices.
Matchbox is a great lunch place but not so much for Sunday brunch. The noise level is really high, and if you don't want the $30 all you can eat, the options aren't written anywhere. We ordered blueberry muffin French toast and it was one little piece of French toast on a plate with nothing else for about $13.
We ordered two small pizzas for four senior adults. It was not quite enough so we ordered dessert as well! Pizzas were excellent; the dessert was sweet and dreamy. Customer service is excellent. Always make a reservation here for dinner.
If they put something on the menu the chef should know how to prepare it as described not as they feel the tuna was very one note and not flavorful. The server knew we ordered appetizers but we had to wait 5 min to get plates and then the main course was right on top of the appetizer. Will not be returning any time soon.
The food was ok. I’ve been to Matchbox a few times and this was one of the more challenging times. The server never introduced herself. We ordered 2 calamari appetizer & both were fried so hard...hard to enjoy!! The entrees came out and the fries were lukewarm. When we ordered soup, the sever says they were out of it. How could you be out if it’s 11:47am & you open at 11:30!?
The shrimp & grits were ok but the rouge was salty.
Not sure if I’ll celebrate another event here.
OK food, not great. Had their margherita pizza which had way too much sauce. Wife loved th shrimp and grits. Also had a pepperoni pizza, which has a LOT of pepperoni, so if you like that, try it.
Always an issue with their brunch. We've yet to have a visit where there wasn't a problem with ordering, prep, or delivery to the table. It's tolerable if you set your expectations going in so just assume that there will be an issue and be prepared to roll with it.
Great food , great vibe and great service ! The fire and smoke pizza was bomb !
$20 for a tiny piece of tuna on a green salad
Service friendly but very piecemeal- hard to get spoons, extra plates
They were not prepared for our reservation and we had to wait 15 minutes. One of our orders also came out incorrectly. That plate was taken off our bill, but it hurt the overall experience. For one of our go-to places, this time disappointed us.
My friend and I ordered Cesar salads with chicken. Both came without the chicken. Had to send back. Start over.
Server inattentive. Took forever to get the check and pay.
Noise level makes it very hard to hear your dining companion. I requested a booth in the bar because it’s the quietest part of this restaurant but of course they ignored this. Put us in The back room with a table of over 20 people yelling from one end to the other.
All in all an unpleasant experience. Won’t go back.
Food was good, but the service wasn’t great. Our server did not seem very happy or motivated to help us. She was hard to find at times. Will return for the food but the service was a big disappointment.
James was an amazing server and very knowledgeable. The blueberry muffin French toast was unique and delicious. I can’t wait to visit again.
Had out of town friends who were here on business. We did not ask for check to be split at beginning but realized later our friend would need receipt for reimbursement. Server graciously split check. He was also very attentive
LOVE sitting outside! LOVE happy hour! FUN vibe!
Food is very yummy! Everyone enjoyed their meal! I particularly loved the Salmon & Spinach Salad!! So good!
The service was horrible even though the food is good. We waited for everything for a very long time and rarely saw the server. It was my worst e Perot CE here.
Our server was super friendly and very attentive. As usual the food and drinks were delicious.
Beautiful evening to sit outside. Very nice waiter. Then the harsh canister lights overhead came on... no way to dim them. Then a fire alarm went off and firetruck had to come turn off. Fortunately all was fine!
This is a great place to eat, but the service is lacking. I asked for their crispy chicken sandwich with Nashville Hot. What came out was the regular sandwich. Didn't want to wait for a new sandwich. It wasn't even busy, and they can't get an order right. Makes me question if they even care about service.
Dessert menu was lacking
Always a great restaurant that we enjoy for lunch or dinner.
This is one my favorite Matchbox locations. The food was good and the server was on top of the food and the drink refills.
could use more options to make the unlimited brunch worth the cost..
The waiter took a very long time to come to the table but was friendly when he did show up. Once our order was taken the food came out reasonably fast, but my pizza's crust was so soggy and thin that it was impossible to eat without rolling it up. The other pizzas we ordered seemed OK. For the prices I expected better.
The food was great, but the server, James, made the evening so enjoyable.
