Overlooking Strawberry Park in the vibrant Mosaic District, our 40-seat patio with fire pit offers outdoor dining and front row seats to Angelika Film Center’s outdoor screen and prime people-watching.

Inside, exposed pipes and warm brick line the walls surrounding 220 seats, all with views of the glowing wood wall, reclaimed from barn-wood from Rochester, New York. Watch the action at the pizza bar, as cozy brick ovens fire up thin-crust pizzas in minutes, or be the center of attention in “the box” that seats six.

The private Barrel Room, named for its vaulted ceiling that resembles barrel rings, easily accommodates 50 hungry guests and comes with plush booths, a wood-burning fireplace and private wine coolers to store your favorite vintages.

Loved the spinach and artichoke dip best! The pizza was delicious too.

We've been to Matchbox several times with my sister and husband when they come to town. This time we were surprised by the change in menu. My sister is vegan and there was really only one option for her -- the black bean burger -- but luckily she loves it. If you don't want pizza or burger the menu seemed small. But guess what -- it was all delicious. Some of us shared the tuna taco appetizer and my husband had the shrimp and grits. All were delicious. I had the shrimp linguine for entree and loved the hint of lemon in the sauce. My husband had the barbeque ribs and was very happy with them. For dessert we split churros and were not disappointed. The server was very friendly and helpful. One mistake was made and they offered to bring a new dish but my sister declined and was perfectly happy with what she was given.

Horrible. From hostess to server to quality of food to overall experience. We were seated over 30 min after our reservation time and it was clearly due to a hostess blunder and boy did she have attitude. Salads were way overdressed, pizza was tasteless and one pizza was severely delayed due to a “quality” issue. No manager visited us to ask us about or apologize for the bad experience after it was made clear to the server that it was far from off to a good start. Will not return to this Matchbox, or any others for that matter.

Dined here as part of a group of five adults celebrating a birthday. First time at this restaurant. Waiter was nice, but not particularly good (couple of times brought only half the food and took too long to bring the other half). Food was okay, nothing to write home about. Overall, not very impressed and unlikely to visit this restaurant again in any location.

I loved this restaurant. Perfect for dates or any special occasion. It is also great for regular get togethers with friends or family. Tasty food for an affordable price.

We came out of the movie theater next door, so ready for a yummy brunch. The place was very busy, clearly a popular choice amongst quite a few dining options close by. Started with a blackberry bellini. Delicious and a generous pour. Hubby had the “walk of shame” breakfast burrito which he really enjoyed. I had the cinnamon roll french toast, It tastes like it sounds, tasty but me too dense and heavy. Should have thought about that, I’m a brioche french toast gal. Service was prompt and friendly. We were seated next to a lively group that kept standing up, coming and going , and we could barely hear each other. But we have enjoyed eating here other times, many great options on the menu, attractive decor.

My husband and I wanted to try this place for awhile.
Luckily my son was going to a sleepover at a friends so- I booked on Opentable 2 days ahead- if try to book anything last minute for get it.

Walk in- hostess stated 10 mins to be seated- it was a full house.
Our server was very nice and helpful with the menu.
Apps- D ordered the simple salad yum but would loved some veggies but overall yum and myself Crab soup with Sherry- I could only finish half.
Entrees- We had shared a herb roasted chicken & margherita pizza- excellent & clean— but I would love have options for your sauce?

We were there because our daughter was celebrating her birthday with a large group of teenagers. My husband and I were seated separately in another area of the restaurant. Both servers were excellent and everyone enjoyed the food. For our purposes noise wasn’t a factor but would be if we had come for a quiet dinner or with our friends hoping to talk.

Not impressed...with service or food. Alta Strada has them beat by a lot!

Enjoyed seating in the much quieter back dining room. Lovely fireplace and great atmosphere. Great service.

Matchbox continues to be my favorite pizza restaurant in DC. It features wonderful pizza, especially the pepperoni. The burgers were a bit overdone. Service was terrific.

Food was prepared well but main course arrived within two minutes of the appetizer so it was warm-to-cold by the time we were ready for it. Poor timing by kitchen.

Bit noisy, with advance reservation we had to wait for 15 min in a cold and crowded entryway, then seated in a hallway leading to the back (kitchen?) and restrooms. Still, our waiter tried to make us comfortable and the food was good!
