Matchbox has good food at a reasonable price and attentive staff. Good place for a business meal.
Food was great, service was awesome. We mentioned our friend had a birthday and our waitress put a candle in the brownie sundae we ordered.
Dinners are held twice monthly at your restaurant and to date we have had no complaints. Service has been stellar and servers are always polite and at the ready. We continue to host our business dinners here and have no desire to go elsewhere. Thank you for your great service and atmosphere.
Food is very good. Wine options are real limited. Happy hour is also limited so better options in the area.
Everything was great!
Quality of mixed drinks from the bar was inconsistent. Send one round of drinks back and waiter was very understanding and helpful in doing so.
Went for a birthday (specified ahead of time) and were unfortunately seated all the way in the back by the kitchen where it was very noisy and there was no cell reception. Put a damper on our special occasion.
Reliably great food and service. Host area and service usually good but slammed this time (due to power outage) so was slow and not as welcoming as I’d expect. Found in past that it’s great if you can sit in the bar area and get happy hour specials.
Steak frites $32. For a New York strip and fries. Seems excessive. Not much flavor to the pepperoni and banana pepper pizza. Peppers too much. Service was exemplary.
Consistently good service with a delicious brunch menu. Love the cast-iron cinnamon rolls and huevos rancheros!
Great for Friday nights with the kids. Sit in the bar for the Happy Hour specials.
Impromptu family dinner. A bit loud at a neighboring table but overall wonderful
Loved the spinach and artichoke dip best! The pizza was delicious too.
We've been to Matchbox several times with my sister and husband when they come to town. This time we were surprised by the change in menu. My sister is vegan and there was really only one option for her -- the black bean burger -- but luckily she loves it. If you don't want pizza or burger the menu seemed small. But guess what -- it was all delicious. Some of us shared the tuna taco appetizer and my husband had the shrimp and grits. All were delicious. I had the shrimp linguine for entree and loved the hint of lemon in the sauce. My husband had the barbeque ribs and was very happy with them. For dessert we split churros and were not disappointed. The server was very friendly and helpful. One mistake was made and they offered to bring a new dish but my sister declined and was perfectly happy with what she was given.
Horrible. From hostess to server to quality of food to overall experience. We were seated over 30 min after our reservation time and it was clearly due to a hostess blunder and boy did she have attitude. Salads were way overdressed, pizza was tasteless and one pizza was severely delayed due to a “quality” issue. No manager visited us to ask us about or apologize for the bad experience after it was made clear to the server that it was far from off to a good start. Will not return to this Matchbox, or any others for that matter.
Dined here as part of a group of five adults celebrating a birthday. First time at this restaurant. Waiter was nice, but not particularly good (couple of times brought only half the food and took too long to bring the other half). Food was okay, nothing to write home about. Overall, not very impressed and unlikely to visit this restaurant again in any location.
I loved this restaurant. Perfect for dates or any special occasion. It is also great for regular get togethers with friends or family. Tasty food for an affordable price.
Valentines date night with the hubby!
We came out of the movie theater next door, so ready for a yummy brunch. The place was very busy, clearly a popular choice amongst quite a few dining options close by. Started with a blackberry bellini. Delicious and a generous pour. Hubby had the “walk of shame” breakfast burrito which he really enjoyed. I had the cinnamon roll french toast, It tastes like it sounds, tasty but me too dense and heavy. Should have thought about that, I’m a brioche french toast gal. Service was prompt and friendly. We were seated next to a lively group that kept standing up, coming and going , and we could barely hear each other. But we have enjoyed eating here other times, many great options on the menu, attractive decor.
My husband and I wanted to try this place for awhile.
Luckily my son was going to a sleepover at a friends so- I booked on Opentable 2 days ahead- if try to book anything last minute for get it.
Walk in- hostess stated 10 mins to be seated- it was a full house.
Our server was very nice and helpful with the menu.
Apps- D ordered the simple salad yum but would loved some veggies but overall yum and myself Crab soup with Sherry- I could only finish half.
Entrees- We had shared a herb roasted chicken & margherita pizza- excellent & clean— but I would love have options for your sauce?
We were there because our daughter was celebrating her birthday with a large group of teenagers. My husband and I were seated separately in another area of the restaurant. Both servers were excellent and everyone enjoyed the food. For our purposes noise wasn’t a factor but would be if we had come for a quiet dinner or with our friends hoping to talk.
Not impressed...with service or food. Alta Strada has them beat by a lot!
Enjoyed seating in the much quieter back dining room. Lovely fireplace and great atmosphere. Great service.
Matchbox continues to be my favorite pizza restaurant in DC. It features wonderful pizza, especially the pepperoni. The burgers were a bit overdone. Service was terrific.
Food was prepared well but main course arrived within two minutes of the appetizer so it was warm-to-cold by the time we were ready for it. Poor timing by kitchen.
Bit noisy, with advance reservation we had to wait for 15 min in a cold and crowded entryway, then seated in a hallway leading to the back (kitchen?) and restrooms. Still, our waiter tried to make us comfortable and the food was good!
Customer service was great. I really liked the atmosphere as well. Pizza was delicious!!
Lovely and attentive staff from beginning to end.
Very enthusiastic, cheerful and truly wanting to make our experience be positive and memorable.
Would like to see a few lighter, healthier gluten/free options in the future.
A great meal , everyone loved the food . My boys are extremely picky eaters and they are all of their food ( cheese pizza, pasta with cheese sauce, chicken tenders) , we had the rice balls which were amazing and a ricotta pizza with olives banana peppers and arugula . It was so good .
Too loud and tables are too close together. Food is decent but over priced. Seems to be the spot for families in Mosaic. Lots of young children at tables around us. Bouncing on booth seats and bumping into everything because the tables are packed in too tight. Not really the relaxing Friday evening meal I was hoping for...
You cannot beat the apple pear salad, table bread. Wait staff are competent and lovely.
Good food and service. 35 minute wait despite reservation. Would be nice if seating was closer to reservation time.
Got a 32 dollar steak and fries that was over cooked, it was ok but I have had better and paid less. They have just changed their menu and lacked some of the cooler beer selection that I was looking forward to. Not that impressed with the menu change, but our server was fantastic and the wine he suggested was good. Not bad but not overly impressed.
We've eaten a number of times at Matchbox and as long as you don't need anything extra from your servers, it's fine. The food is always tasty, but I need some pepper and little salt for my salad and couldn't get my server to come back to us after we received our meal, in fact he didn't finish the service with us, another young woman came and cleaned up and presented our check to us. So the servers are good upon the first 5 minutes, but really fail and fade after the initial drink order and that has been the case for a few meals now, unfortunately. I'll still go and I do still enjoy the food, but might not tip quite so readily anymore.
Excellent service great ambience and delicious food
On January 18, Matchbox specifically sent an email ( through Open Table) promoting Restaurant Week. When we arrived to Matchbox on January 26, our server informed us they had a new menu so the Restaurant Week promotion was not applicable.
Liz was attentive and friendly. We Enjoyed the meal
Glad we made a reservation as it was packed. Our server was excellent! We explained that we were trying to catch a movie in 1hour & our food was expedited and the timing was perfect. Everything was fresh & delicious. We will definitely be back to dine there.
Wonderful experience! Great food, beautiful atmosphere
Service was quick and responsive. The bellinis (black cherry and peach) were very tasty. Usually restaurants don't put enough alcohol - but this was the perfect mixture. The breakfast burrito had a lot of flavor! Wasn't bland at all. The restaurant is really well decorated. Love the wood.
