We visited for brunch and it was quiet. Service was friendly but disappointing based on previous experiences here and at their other locations- items were forgotten, coffee refills we had to help ourselves to, etc. Not sure what was happening since it wasn't that busy. The location at Barracks Row consistently provides a great experience, but Chinatown seems to have gone down a bit. Probably won't be back here.

Great apps, try the crab and avocado tower, and the black bean burger and crab cake sandwich were great. Steer clear of the uninspired, extremely underwhelming turkey club.

Excellent food and atmosphere. Had the Apple/Pear Salad and split a small Pepperoni and Mushroom Pizza. Service was not as good this time as in times past but was Ok. I would still recommend for anyone looking for a very good casual dining experience at a reasonable price.

Went for the advertised Happy Hour and when arrived were told it was only offered at the bar, not dining area. So we had to sit at bar for dinner. Food was good, not great. Bartenders were very friendly. Food came out very quickly from kitchen. Probably wouldn't rush back.

Our food was good. Our server had no personality and seemed very interested in getting us out of there. She brought the bill mid-dinner, and we would have had dessert, but instead walked to shake shack for a shake. Also we were seated at the very back of the top level near the drink station when there were plenty of other and better seats available. It was still fairly early and there was a Caps game, but there wasn't much of a crowd. It was just odd. I've eaten at the 8th street location before and that experience was much better!

We enjoyed our dinner at Match Box. Our server was very helpful and suggested a great bottle of wine. The fig and proscuitto was really good. The only negative is that there were only about 6 inches of space between our table and the one next to us - very little privacy. I was closer than the person sitting at the table next to me than I was to my date across the table. I felt like we were shouting across the table to be heard.

We were at Matchbox Chinatown on the day of the Women's March on Washington, so as you'd assume the restaurant was packed. I'd made a reservation so we only had to wait about ten minutes for a table, although I overheard other groups being quoted a wait of two hours. The waitstaff was attentive and accurate and everyone we saw was working incredibly hard, with a smile on their faces, to provide excellent service. It was a delicious meal and all the credit goes to the incredible staff at Matchbox, who were under a huge amount of pressure. I'll definitely be coming back on, hopefully, less busy nights.

Our open table reservation did not get to the restaurant, but I had it on my phone. It was incredibly busy, but the manager acknowledged our reservation and was able to get us a table very close to our reservation time. The staff was friendly and the service was great even though it was a very busy Saturday night (1/21/2017).

I ate here with 9 other people after the Women's March on Washington DC. The food was great and service was fantastic. BONUS: Our bill was itemized by seat. WHAT?! That streamlined payment and any possibility of us messing up the bill, or the tip for our awesome server!

Original reservation was for 6. Hostess was not nice about us having to reduce to 4 people. She was not welcoming. Despite that initial experience we stayed and enjoyed the excellent mini burgers and oven pizza!

Service was good and quick. We made it comfortably to our game at the Verizon Center. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Avocado Crab Tower was a standout. Most places don't quite get a medium rare burger cooked the right way; for my taste, the chef got it perfect the night we visited. I would recommend and visit again.

Went before the Caps game. All the food was good - pizza, salads, apps, beer. At the end of dinner, we wanted to order more drinks, but it was hard to find our server. Again, hard to find her when we were ready to pay & head to the game. Otherwise, we always love Matchbox.

Pizza arrived piping hot and was really good. Server's personality was a little dry and she was a little slow, but, she got us what we needed and delivered the pizza to us right from the oven.

We liked Matchbox. The service was great and the food was good. It also has a nice trendy atmosphere. It was the perfect meal before heading to the Wizards game. The only bummer is that happy hour prices only apply to the bar. Not unexpected, just wish we'd known before sitting in the dining room. We will back!

I made a reservation on short notice (~1 hour) for Sunday evening. This place is usually packed, so we wanted to be sure we'd get in before heading out in the brutal cold. Upon arriving, we realized it wasn't crowded to our surprise, so walking in would have worked, but we were glad for the reservation (and points) anyway. Our server, Sparkle, was very nice. She gave us just the right mix of humor, efficiency and attention during our meal.

I took 3 requests to get water. Meatball pizza was good, but the balls were only halved and sparse on the pie. We got a large pie, the people next to us got a personal size and had the same number of meatballs.

Everyone there was friendly and service was very quick! The food was absolutely delicious and our waitress was super attentive to our needs. Only downside was it was incredibly chilly in the restaurant, even upstairs away from doors. We overheard the staff discussing how cold it was and that customers had walked out because of it.

We were visiting from out of town for the New Year's weekend and found Matchbox by searching for a restaurant that was kid friendly as well as a variety of meal options. My son has multiple severe allergies and the restaurant was so helpful in meeting our needs. The only complaint was that it took several trips and wait time for condiments and dressings for 1 meal. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful.

My husband and I went here New Years Eve for a quick bite before going to a show. The service was fast and the food was good. The lamb sandwich was tasty, the chick pea fries were so-so. I guess that is an acquired taste.

We had a fixed price dinner. Soup was very good -- the kind you would expect from a fine restaurant. Salad was good and very generous portion. Surf and turf was excellent -- very well prepared. Desert was good but portion was too much. Overall, great food.

The waiter, Manuel, made this experience the best. Thank you very much, man! After the slight mixup at the hostess stand about my table reservation, Manuel and the female that took the time to understand my table request in my reservation and prevent me from waiting for a table when there were plenty of empty tables and I had a reservation time.... Thanks to those two individuals and the cooking staff. I'm a long time fan of MatchBox since 2004...

Matchbox occupies a space for comfort food with an interesting twist. Overall, it and its menu are accessible without being generic. It won't change your life, but you'll get a good meal at a fair price. A dependably solid restaurant.
