Gluten free pizza - a treat!
Mouika is always a pleasure to work with. Fresh food as usual!
I was there with a large group for a business dinner. The table we had upstairs was perfect. The service was extremely slow but the food was delicious!
Very nice moderate budget DC restaurant, one of several in town. Very good and reasonably priced. Excellent wait staff.
Waited over 45 minutes for entrees
Our visit was great. The food was really tasty and the service was terrific.
Met friends for Sunday brunch, they wanted the bottomless bubbly and were told they were out!! If you’re out send someone to the store. One person ordered the breakfast sandwich and was told they were out-what, out of eggs?? Pizzas were subpar. Another ordered eggs over easy and they were cooked almost hard. I had crab cakes eggs bene-hardly any hollandaise sauce and what was there was dried up from sitting under the head lamp, eggs cooked almost to hard so no moisture on the eggs bene. Crab cake was good and luckily moist so I didn’t choke.
Matchbox typically has gone out of their way to accommodate me on my birthday meals here. However, from start to finish our service today was poor. Once our whole party was seated it took forever for us to be able to order appetizers, and then someone else came out later to tell us one of the appetizers was unavailable. We had long finished the appetizer course before anyone else came back out to take our entree orders. Just super slow service, and we felt like we were ignored the whole time (compared to the table behind us ordering drinks). No one ever asked if we needed anything, if the food tasted good, etc. The waiter just never came back to check on us until we told the water guy to grab him. Even on a packed night I’ve had much much better service so I hope they work on this!
Server was great; two of the entrees were undercooked, but the server made things right. Will be back.
I generally enjoy Matchbox. Great pizza, awesome happy hour, great beer selection (kind of IPA heavy but who isn't these days). My only gripe was that we made a reservation for a high top table and they sat us at a half-booth table in the corner (the place was 1/3 full) so we ended up sitting at the bar. Not a huge deal. We'd go back for the happy hour alone.
The menu changed drastically. Shrimp and grits is now depressing, smaller portion for entree. Appetizer and entree are same size, out of ribs for two days. Took 20 minutes before being waited on at our table. The young lady Darielle* noticed is not being serviced and graciously took care of us. Server took too long with food and silverware. Will not visit this location again!
This was an 80's brunch, on Easter. While the food was delicious and Service great, I feel like this is something they should have advertised! Very loud and difficult to have a conversation. Would go back, but not for 80's brunch.
Went here for my mom's birthday. They gave us a good seat per request - simultaneously cozy and great people-watching options. The food was fresh and tasty. Service was friendly, quick and effective. Highly recommend.
Adorable neighborhood, fantastic staff, really tasty food and reasonably priced, particularly for DC. So sorry we didn't find it until our last night in town. Will be sure to come back again!!!
This Matchbox is much better than the one in China Town... The crab cake was good and the salmon needed some rice or noodles because of all the broth. It was relaxing and very close to home.
Perfect service. Friendly, kind and mindful server. We had a wonderful meal.
Food was good but had to send first pizza back as the girl in the kitchen didn’t use gloves when putting prosciutto on the pizza and just prior to that used the same hand to fix her hair (unsanitary). The acting manager came and apologized for the situation but didn’t handle how it should’ve been. won’t be coming here as often as we used to.
Great food! Fun atmosphere! The babyback ribs and braised beef were excellent!
Had a fun time, food was excellent, service was great. We had 10-13 yr old kids with us and they loved it, too. There was something for everyone.
First time I ate at this locations it was great! They have a third floor that's a little secluded and they usually sit large parties (6+) up there. This time around, I made a reservation and explicitly asked to sit on the top floor again. When we got to the restaurant they sat us in a booth. 7 people in a booth can be very uncomfortable. There was a large circle table right next to us but they said it was reserved for a party of 8. I was determined to sit on the top floor because it was my bday and i wanted to take photos with my girls. The manager said we could'nt eat up there because there were no servers. I wanted to see for myself so i walked up there and surprisingly found servers and guests up there being served. I asked the manager again could we eat on the top floor. He said yes, but we would have to order our food downstairs then carry it upstairs (3 flights) after it was brought out. Crazy right! After our drinks came out we proceeded to go upstairs and sat at a table on the top floor. The manager came upstairs and told us we can only be there for an hour. I don't know why. Next the server came upstairs and told us he would serve us on the top floor. Moral of the story was there was alot of back and forth with management regarding seating arrangements that were requested at the time of reservation. They made us seem like we were inconveniencing them when all we asked was to sit in a particular area. The food was good, but because we had to negotiate seating arrangements, ill stick to eating at other matchbox locations.
The food here is good. the pizza is what you come for and it is good. the small i a good deal to get for your self to have some leftovers to enjoy later or just enough to share. I also got the shrimp and grits which were amazingly good. All the staff here works together to make the experience top notch.
We went to Matchbox for my hubby birthday... he loves the pizza and the dessert. However they didn’t have the dessert he wanted that location
Qulaity of the food and drinks seems to have declined since my last visit.
Great waiter! Good food. Nice time
Reservation ready when we arrived. Wait staff pleasant and cordial. Met our expectations. Will return.
We were fortunate to get a table upstairs that was very quiet and allowed the server to be attentive. However, they were out of several beer choices and my pizza was severely over cooked. Unfortunately we were pressed for time and didn’t have the option of returning it.
Great food. Great ambiance. Perfect for couples or families. Very friendly/helpful staff.
Nothing spectacular on the menu. If you’re looking for usual menu options in a lively atmosphere, this place is for you
Asked our server several times for additional dressing for a salad. The dressing was delivered 20 mins later and I was almost done with my salad.
Great service and food is consistent, due drinks could be better
Great pizza. Great cream of chowder soup. Drinks were good. Service was good. No complaints. We enjoyed it
Group of 12 60+ friends for our regular dinner out. Chatting was easy-quiet on the 2nd level. Menu was varied and the food great. I don’t remember our server’s name but she readily agreed to 12 separate checks to expedite our departure! Parking was an issue-$20 lot or walk several blocks from a 2 hr residential neighborhood. No valet available. A member of our group asked about an elevator and felt that one of the hostesses was rude. I didn’t hear the exchange so can’t attest to the validity of her feelings. Overall a great place in a busy urban area.
We were seated 10 mins after our reservation time. Food was great but the service was lacking. Once seated it was an additional 10-15 minutes before we had to stop someone to bring us water and take our order.
Awesome! The cinnamon rolls were to die for and the bottomless mimosa bar was fab!
We were in DC for 4 days celebrating our granddaughters birthday.
We had a very average table and a below average server. Her birthday was not even acknowledged. Possibly not her fault if she wasn’t advised by the host. Either way it’s frustrating. If you are going to participate on OpenTable and ask the question of the occasion you should recognize the occasion.
It was fine food, fine experience but I want to live and extraordinary life and fine doesn’t cut it in my world for a round two.
I own my own event company and crest experiences for my clients and would never send them here.
All 13 of us were delighted with the food! Our server was excellent. Some returned the next day for lunch.
I live just a couple of blocks from this Matchbox location and I have eaten their regularly since they came to the neighborhood. I love coming her for special occasions and on nights that I just don’t want to cook. Unfortunately, they have changed their menu significantly over the years, losing many of my favorites and replacing them with things of lesser quality. hows. The replacement of the mini trio appetizer with th mini duo is such a disapointment. I have had the steak frites several times. Ugh! It is a cheap, tough piece of meat. The pizza is still good. The ribs are sub-par. The cornbread sucks. I do like their salads for th most part. I will pay more for the quality. in the shrimp and grits, which is good, please offer more grits. I ate there three times this week with different people just to be more disappointed each night with the food. The service from the wait staff and the manager was outstanding.
Fabulous visit. The waiter and manager were super helpful and nice.
Excellent location. Staff were great
