Matchbox - 14th Street
Three soaring levels mean plenty of space for intimate dinners, large parties and get-togethers. Every seat in the house has a unique perspective, but everyone is treated to dramatic views of the original exposed brick façade and perfectly-restored grand entrance.
Built at the turn of the century, the 14th Street location has been reborn as a bowling alley, automobile showroom, rehearsal space for Arena Stage, and most importantly, Club Bali where Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, and Cab Calloway made history.

An overall good experience. Food was great as usual. The patio is just buzzing with mosquitos. Definitely avoid patio seating in the summer.
Went for the Sunday Brunch, the options are limited. For $30 pp you can find a better food option at other restaurant. On the bright side the Mimosas and Bloody Mary are $3, if you order the brunch menu.
Very nice service. Pizza was thin crust, crispy and delicious. Nice options if people are dining that do not want pizza, as well.
The food was great. It was a last minute decision to go here on a Friday night. My boyfriend and Split a pizza and the arancini
Our waiter was great. He gave us great info to make correct choices. He was very personable and reminded me of a Hollywood actor. I wish I could write down his name.
I haven’t been here in a while but the food is not nearly as good as it used to be. The service was wonderful though. I was disappointed.
You must be hungry to head over for brunch, but once there, your appetite is satisfied. Lots of little plates for the $40 price - kinda pricey, but worth it if you're hungry for an eclectic meal.
Fun to bring lots of others and taste.
There's a new 'bottom-less' Brunch menu option. Decent value, and pretty good food options if you want to try various dishes. One complaint I have is some of the dishes came out lukewarm, as if they were not prepared to order. Our server was great!
A bee fell onto my friend from the ceiling. The manager refused to
Delicious pizza! Yummy cocktails, friendly staff . The sliders were delicious also! :P
Love the brunch. But they orders were mixed up a few times and we were waiting a long time to learn they were out of the biscuits/gravy.
The manager was GREAT!! He saw to it that my party was seated in great time! He checked on us continuously and the staff was wonderful!! Definitely visiting again!!
Good, reliable local chain. The prosciutto and fig pizza is very delicious and a large was great for two people, but the meatball pizza my friends got came with not many meatballs. The NY cheesecake was a little different too - actual layers of cake with cheesecake filling as the icing, but a nice twist!
I’ve always loved matchbox but they now have a few new things on the menu! The spicy pecorino wings are delicious & so was the glazed salon & chicken fettuccine. Of course the pear apple salad is my favorite starter! Great service!
The food is outstanding and the service is terrific, professional and timely without hovering.
You can tell when someone isn’t passionate about their job.
I work in retail and I always make sure I go above and beyond to make guests experience a good lasting one.
The food and atmosphere was fantastic!!!
Great variety of food, good service, good drinks.
Excellent food & service!
Awesome service, fantastic for kids. The complimentary fried risotto was an awesome touch for new customers. When visiting DC we will visit again.
The food here is good, but the quality seems to drop a bit when the restaurant gets busy. We had a group of 6 and were able to get drinks, appetizers, and pizzas in and out in about 45 mins. Our drinks did take a while, and showed up after our appetizers were delivered and eaten. Pizza was good, but could have been hotter.
When we got the check, i forgot that i was a rewards member, but the waitress did not offer to adjust the check to use my rewards number. It would have been a nice gesture considering we had a large bill.
Go for the brunch. Thank me later
Very good, as always. Nice atmosphere, solid service, great beer selection, and excellent chicken pesto pizza.
great food and great service
The food was delicious and our waitress was great and gave us wonderful suggestions. Calamari was so delicious and the pizza was wonderful!
The hosts were rude, inconsiderate and inefficient. The service was incredibly slow and unhelpful. Would not return.
We had a lovely experience here. Friendly staff, great value for brunch, tasty food and kid friendly. Couldn’t have asked for more.
We had the Fried Chicken Cobb and the ribs. Portions were good, the server was awesome, and we like the location. Overall, we had a good dining experience.
First time eating at Matchbox. Food and service was great! If we end up back in Washington DC we will be sure to stop in again!
This was a great place for my family to eat - the food was really good, the service was on point and the wine and beer selection was great. A nice night for the whole family - even though it was loud, we still had a great time. I would go back, and I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone with kids looking for a nice place to eat where there are food options for everyone to enjoy - great pizzas, burgers and appetizers.
We had the brunch box all you can eat brunch. Everything we ordered was delicious. It did take quite some time between plates to get the next plate but it was worth the wait. We loved the breakfast pizza. Bring your appetite!
Food was great we did the endless brunch
The crab dip and the calamari made for a fabulous beginning. Salmon was cooked perfectly, the short rib pasta was absolutely delicious, and the chicken bowl was so fresh and flavorful. Darren provided outstanding service-attentive, knowledgeable, and so friendly!
Great experience but loud and difficult to talk
Some of the Appetizers came out after the entre’ was served. Server was not to be found ..... took forever!!!
The manager adjusted the bill but which was nice but the wait/kitchen staff need to get their act together
Mike was our server and he was amazing. Very kind and informative. I will be back!
Fried foods are now overdone. This was not the case before. Pizza still good.
Air conditioner wasn't working properly. Waitress was absent for long periods of time.
Friendly staff. Manager came by, outside seating was great! New item fried shrimp were good!
food was great! The noise level was a bit tough but we just moves closer.
Pizza is not their thing anymore. What used to be a good spot not delivers crackers crusts that seem pre-made. I remember going to Chinatown when it first opened and it was great. They have fallen so far. On the other hand, my table mate got the salmon salad and it looked really good and cooked really well.
