Match Eatery and Public House - Starlight
We waited over an hour for our food. It was mother’s days so we knew they were busy. But we noticed other people were getting their food except for us. So we finally asked and food came after 15 mins, it was brunch so eggs and tater tots weren’t that hard to cook. I think they forgot our food. Anyways even after all our food came out, they were still missing my moms food. We asked to just cancel the food. Manager offered free desserts, which we declined. We were really hungry. In the end they gave us 25% off and $25 off next visit. I don’t think we’ll come back. It was disappointing especially for our mom, on mother’s day!
Slow service. Mojitos not that good. Have not received my open table points
This particular Match location is quite hit or miss. Sometimes the food and service are excellent, and other times not so great. On this visit, it was the latter.
The waitress was in training and did a good job. No complaints there. The food on the other hand, wasn't up to their usual standards. The appetizer BBQ wings we got had that old meat taste to them. Like the chicken had been sitting in the freezer for an extended amount of time, before getting cooked. My burger and fries main weren't over the top delicious, but ok. My wife got the fish and chips which were quite good. But the coleslaw that came as a side had this overpowering taste of horseradish. So much so that it was inedible and pushed to the side of the plate. They did bring a side salad after my wife mentioned it to the waitress. I meant to bring up the taste of the wings, but the mains had arrived and the opportunity had passed.
When it came time to pay the bill, the OpenTable cheque I had redeemed with my dining points was twice rejected by the restaurant. Once by the waitress, and again by the floor manager. Only after I pushed the fact that they were an OpenTable establishment and they should take the cheque did another manager come and apologize for the rejections, and applied the cheque to our bill.
By no means was this an over the top horrible experience, but it was subpar for sure. And with so many similar style restaurants around, we'll likely make resos elsewhere going forward.
Great food with quality ingredients. Service was a bit slow but server was warm and friendly.
Food delicious. Servers pleasant. Unfortunately we were seated at table with our backs to front door entrance. Was unpleasantly drafty and cold everytime the doors opened. Otherwise pleasant date night out.
We had a great night. Great service from being greeted at the door to receiving our bill
Came for a date night, food was good, host and waitress could have been more friendly though, barely a smile and seemed a bit disinterested.
I don't recommend this restaurant at all. First, when we walked in to tell them that we have a reservation, they said that they cannot find it even though we got confirmation and told them that it was booked through open table. However, they did find us a table but it was so tight that the whole dinner experience was uncomfortable. They could not even fit all our food on the table (that's how small the table is for 6 people). The server did not look happy to serve us, because I did not even see a single smile on her face from the beginning to the end. When we finished our meal, she did not even bother asking if we wanted desserts. She looked like she just wanted to get rid of us as quickly as possible. When we gave her her tip, we did not even hear a single thank you from her. This is the most unpleasant dinner experience we ever had. Never going back to this restaurant. Very poor service even from the manager.
I have eaten here four times. The first time I had the Salmon Bowl and while I want to try other things, I keep having the salmon bowl and it is fabulous every single time. The people I go to dinner with have always entirely enjoyed their meals. The food is, for me, surprisingly awesome.
I selected ‘High Top‘ on the reservation but the lady at Match Eatery said I was WRONG, she said :"yoou should reserved COUCH TABLE".
But Open Table reservation website has only two choices :- (1) High Top; (2) Standard.
Friendly and engaging staff...Great testing food...music volume could have been more moderate for the ease of conversation..
Add a few healthy options on the menu for those on a diet
I was at match on Nov 11 in the evening to watch Sunday night football. Overall I would say the experience was poor, seemed like there was not enough waitresses for the amount of people. Seemed like two groups made reservations, so should of been a non issue because they knew well in advance. Our food took awhile to come out and when brought out the order wasnt right for the pizza we ordered and no one followed up to see how our food was.
Overall the service wasn’t good due to the lack of staff, I commend our waitress for working in those conditions.
Great place to catch the game here.
Everything was excellent. Service was a bit poor as there seemed to be one waitress for the entire place and we waited a very long time to get refills and to even get our orders taken.
The restaurant is good, price is reasonable and sometimes having promotion, but the service is very lousy this time. We didn't get any attention from our server for the whole dinner, except rushing us to take order and delivering us food, not even getting any water refilled at all in the whole hour. When I asked if we could also enjoy getting discount together with the casino's voucher, the waitress's attitude was so rude and said that's "customer's responsibility" to ready the term & condition of the voucher. Maybe we're Asians.
Food was great and atmosphere was Excellent. Only down side was service wasn’t so great. Took 30 mins to get drinks ordered and then server forgot to bring us drink. Always had to wait for server to come back to table to order more drink and clear food dishes away. Manager took our dishes when we were done. Server just didn’t come around to our table a whole lot.
In addition to a nice meal, Service was good and Anna was very accommodating.
The service was very, very slow. Waited over 30 minutes to get some food packed up and over 45 minutes for the bill. The food was just ok. The portions for the price are pretty big. Chicken and waffles was tasty.
Food was good. Service was good if a little slow. Unable to use the high stools or booths. The low table we were at wiggled which wasn't very good and the finish on the table was very sticky which was even worse. Uncomfortable placing your bare forearm on the table !
None of the staff seemed like they liked their job much. The food was excellent. It was Mother’s Day so my kids and I were there for dinner. I tipped our server more than usual because she kept filling our waters, but she really didn’t seem very happy to be there. I felt bad for her :(
Wife and I enjoyed it. Definitely a place we would go back to with friends
This was a make-up visit/meal for a dismal previous reservation we had at this location a few months earlier. That evening the service and food were just abysmal. A real turn off for a place we'd only had great experiences with up to then.
After a discussion with the manager, we were invited to come back and give them another chance... on their dime of course. Our party of four came in for lunch and enjoyed every minute this time around. The food was tasty and the service was prompt. We were well taken care of. Definitely will be returning again.
Kudos to the manager of Match Eatery and Starlight Casino for making it right.
I've dined in Penticton Match several times so I have a good comparison. The service in this location is really lacking. We weren't seen by our server after being seated for 10 mins. That's a long time in restaurant land. We had a reservation so not like anyone should be surprised that a table was seated in your section. The appetizers and entrees weren't well time. We had just started on the appies and the main was served. We were overcharged for a drink on our bill that was someone elses, so watch you bills carefully. Food was good, but in Tic they had a feature sheet that was always awesome. Its possible they had one but we weren't given it. Food was delicious so no complaints with the kitchen. They have live music on Sat which was good, maybe a tad loud for dining. We then went to the lounge for dancing. You can't make reservations for both using open table however because they say its within a 2 hour window. You def need a reservation for the lounge it was completely full.
Although the food was good and reasonably priced, the service wasn't. After we all finished our food, our plates were left empty at the table for 20 mins. The waitress never came to ask how the food was, nor did she pass by and take the empty dishes. We were left with no room at the table with all the dishes in front of us. Also, my friend had a tea, and was not asked if she needed a refill of hot water. Therefore, we only left a 10% minimum tip.
Extremely disappointed with our experience at Match. We've been there for dinner numerous times, and have always had prompt service with tasty food. We decided to do brunch this past Sunday with some recently engaged friends as a mini celebration. First off, from the time we ordered to the time we actually received our food was almost an hour. When you're starving in the morning, that's never a good sign. We brought this up to our server, but his response was basically "You're right, that took way too long. But oh well."
When the food did eventually arrive, it was plain and very bland. My hash and eggs basically tasted like the oil it was cooked in, and my wife's Belgian waffles basically were like Eggo waffles. There are so many better breakfast/brunch places out there for equal or better prices. We will not be returning to Match for brunch again, and we do not recommend it anyone.
We enjoy Match and come often
A few menu changes are in order as it has been the same since opening
Some nights great service and others it is like we as older folk are not worthy of good service
All in all we like it better than your other restaurants
Service was Slow. Food was Good. Nothing against the restaurant bit some people need to learn how to behave in a restaurant.
I had the Caesar salad which I often order but this time, there was too much dressing. At one point I was scraping it off the lettuce ... this is not the first time I order a dish again to be very disappointed the second time. I guess it all depends on who's working that day!
Had live music which was nice, but was very very loud
taco test very good food was good and price good too
I was hoping it would be good but definitely fell short.
Waitress was hard to find and she constantly ignored us. Food took a long time. Our waters never got refilled and waitress failed to ask how are food was.
Try the lettuce wrap under appetizers ... so good !
Food was great, service was so so. Went on a snowy day so not many people there but the waitress took very long to take and bring out order did not come to check on us either. Part way through our waitress changed and she was very good and attentive. Live music was good
The waffle chicken wasn't bad but it was disappointing that the sticky toffee pudding wasn't available and the only dessert was deep fried oreo that would be better suited to the PNE.
Decided to go, checked out their instagram page ahead of time and was pleasantly surprised to find they had Dine Out Vancouver happening, bonus!
Started off with the cheezy brew soup, nice and cheesy and the bacon bits were delightful. Next was the burger and fries, can't go wrong there. Then dessert, they have 2 options, one being sold out, so really only 1😊. They did offer to substitute for another dessert in place, but that too was also sold out, so we both went for the deep fried Oreos. They were a smidge dry and doughy, not sure if Oreos deep fry that well, it reminded me of a sweet and sour chicken ball texture. Service was outstanding, super friendly and fast⭐️. Then time to pay and I had an Open Table voucher to use. Our server and Managers were unaware how to process and it took a bit of persistence on my part, but it all got worked out in the end. If you go and are looking to use an Open Table voucher, remind them that this isn't affiliated with the casino and is to do with their reservation system. Overall, I give our evening an 8.5/10 ☺️
Went for Dine Out & they ran out of Sticky Toffee pudding that I especially went for. Server did not offer an alternative & as I really did not want deep fried Oreos I asked for a substitute. She said she could only offer me ice cream (which comes with the Sticky Toffee pudding). Otherwise the food was good & service was ok but got better as the evening went on.
Loved the big booths. Super big and comfortable. The Soup was creamy. Just the way I like it. Loved the Pesto Sauce on the Entree. A ton of sauce, thank you. The Dessert was cool, never had that before. Dine Out Vancouver for $20 per person.
The Private Band was great. Super romantic.
Had to have a dance or two at the Starlight Lounge. Great Band too.
Thank you. Have a great day. Huggies.
9/10 times You will honestly get the worse service possible. Only go there for the free food vouchers from the casino.
