Matador Ratings and Reviews
The waitress was terrible. She had no idea what she was doing. It took 15-20 minutes to get someone to come to our table and we had two young hungry children. Food was not great. Table side Guacamole was the only good thing we had. Seafood tasted funny so we didn't eat it. No chance that I will return there or recommend it.
It seems like this restaurant, which we liked to go to in the past, is having financial issues. The margaritas were water-downed, the portions on main courses were less; the service is provided by new, inexperienced staff and less attentiveness. For the fees charged for Tapas and Main courses, it is no longer a choice to come here anymore.
The place has nice decor and a grown up vibes (would not recommend taking kids). Although the place provides an authentic Mexican appearance, the place provides a limited menu and the food was subpar. The steak tacos were decent however the shrimp tacos lacked flavor. The rice was bland. During our stay, the waiter forgot to bring me my drink, which i waited almost 20 mins. After this experience, the owner felt sorry about our experience and comped our whole meal. The owner was nice and said he would make changes to the meals in future guest. All in all, not a bad night.
We went for my daughter’s birthday. We had a fabulous time. It was a Wednesday night so the restaurant was not crowded we pretty much had the upstairs to ourselves. Our waiter Jose was wonderful and very accommodating. Quality of the food was very good everything was delicious and we had leftovers even though we ordered small plates. I highly recommend Matador.
Wonderful Food, excellent service, excellent Margaritas. I come here with friends for lunch, and always have a delightful meal and enjoy the wonderful service. I highly recommend the crab cake, which can be served in a sandwich or even better, on its own with a salad. Yum. And The guacamole is fresh made at the table. What could be better? And those Margaritas! Love this place!
I met an old girlfriend for dinner.
I was really looking forward to a great Mexican dinner.
We both ordered fajitas. The presentation and quality of both platters was poor.
It kills me to pay a high bill when the experience was unpleasant.
I know why the restaurant was almost empty.
We tried Matador for the first time. The owner (and executive chef) greeted us at the door. We enjoyed a delicious margarita at the bar first, then went upstairs to have dinner. The servers were attentive. Since our paella was going to take a while (we were warned), we enjoyed a few delish small dishes first. The only "bad" part was that the paella was a bit salty, but still good. We will go back.
PLEASE READ THE WHOLE REVIEW! We didn't have the best experience. A new waitress was assigned to our table and she wasn't very good. I think with the right wait staff this review would be 5 stars across the board. FIRST the food was excellent!!! We had a few issues like -- dishes piling up on our table -- not so good. Wrong dishes served (things we did not order) and forgetting our forks and spoons. There were a few more, but that is not what is important. When we asked to see the manager, the owner came over instead and listened to the issues we had. He apologized and said " you will not be charged for the meal." I was surprised that he listened to our complaints instead of making excuses for it. I definitely would like to come back again when I am in town and give this place another try. I will not knock it entirely because of one bad waitress.
Been there a couple of times, namely because my wife likes the appetizers (ok, the tapas).
The tapas are ok, but nothing that would send you into gustatory ecstasy.
Mostly, though, I think serving small dishes is just a ploy to get you to run up your bill.
On a more recent visit, the tapas were acceptable, but the guacamole was serving was less than generous and tasted bland to boot. (Yes, I know, it's an old joke: A couple walks out of a restaurant. She says, "The food was terrible!" He says, "Yea, and such small portions."
My fish Veracruzano was a failure: The stripped bass had little flavor and what there was almost overwhelmed by an overabundance of the traditional toppings that come with this dish.
And, oh yes, the Margarita. Like drinking water. Much to the waiter's credit, when I pointed that out he brought a tumbler of additional Tequila. Now, that was a Margarita!
Everything was great except that we were seated underneath one of their speakers and sometimes it was really hard to hear our conversation just across the table... I wasn't so much that it was loud (although it was) but it was like the equalization was way treble-y, and also, they were playing a live album or something and every time the crowd cheered it completely drowned out our conversation which got to be annoying at one point. Maybe adjust the volume and EQ to make for a more pleasant experience...
Liked the food. Quacamole is really good. Octopus is fiery but you can ask for it to be toned down. Salads are well crafted. We keep having Jose as our waiter and he hasn't steered us wrong with selections. Upstairs is definitely more quiet for a conversation.
The service and atmosphere were excellent except for we were in the main dining area near the bar and a group of people came in who were screaming at each other. Several tables that came in moved up stairs and we would have too except we were in the middle of our meal. The restaurant can't really do a lot about that but I think that they could have asked that group to quiet down just just a tad since this was like 6 p.m. and no one else was able to have a normal conversation. The food was very good and not overly priced, but there are no prices on the website menu and the menu was very different from the menu in the restaurant.
Won't be back - steady decline in food and service over the years. Dirty water in 4 glasses of water. 2 of 4 entrees came out - then the other 2 entrees came out 10 minutes later. Not tapas but the entrees. The waitress tried to make the best of a bad situation.
Went for mother's day brunch for the 3rd year in a row but this time it was as if they weren't ready for the customers to arrive when we walked in. Took 45 min for us to get our food then our 3 and 7yr olds food didn't arrive for another 10min.. unacceptable for kids or anyone on a special holiday. The manager did remove our drinks but it left a bad taste in our mouth.
This is a quirky place , that usually leaves something to be desired, but I'm glad it has stuck around, and I want it to stay in the neighborhood, because it's so different, and it's mostly good. This was Mother's Day Brunch, and I was really surprised and disappointed to find out that they actually had a *reduced* menu for the occasion. That, plus being stuck at a table right by the entrance, right behind the hostess station, had me feeling pessimistic.
But the charm of the place shone through, with the server making sure we had a good time. The food was excellent and inexpensive, and they did allow me to order something that wasn't on the reduced menu.
There was one snafu with one of the orders coming out very very late, and the manager who was standing nearby could have apologized (but didn't). But otherwise... mom was happy, kids were happy, dad was happy, and we'll be back.
