Love this place, it's right in downtown wayne and the food is phenomenal!
I love tapas dining, however Matador was overpriced for the quality and quantity.
I requested a quiet upstairs table, the hostess proceeded t take us to a table by the bar on the main floor. When I encouraged her to READ my request, she complied. Otherwise, it was great 3rd visit.
Service was strained as it appeared busier than they expected for a Wednesday. We waited too long for plates to be cleared and to get fresh drinks. Have dined here before and this was not up to the usual standard.
Food was good. Service was good. Be careful of how much tou are ordering bc it adds up quickly, leading to a very expensive bill.
Went for mother's day brunch for the 3rd year in a row but this time it was as if they weren't ready for the customers to arrive when we walked in. Took 45 min for us to get our food then our 3 and 7yr olds food didn't arrive for another 10min.. unacceptable for kids or anyone on a special holiday. The manager did remove our drinks but it left a bad taste in our mouth.
This is a quirky place , that usually leaves something to be desired, but I'm glad it has stuck around, and I want it to stay in the neighborhood, because it's so different, and it's mostly good. This was Mother's Day Brunch, and I was really surprised and disappointed to find out that they actually had a *reduced* menu for the occasion. That, plus being stuck at a table right by the entrance, right behind the hostess station, had me feeling pessimistic.
But the charm of the place shone through, with the server making sure we had a good time. The food was excellent and inexpensive, and they did allow me to order something that wasn't on the reduced menu.
There was one snafu with one of the orders coming out very very late, and the manager who was standing nearby could have apologized (but didn't). But otherwise... mom was happy, kids were happy, dad was happy, and we'll be back.
Atmosphere wonderful! All dishes way over seasoned. Too much salt. Texture and flavor good but some dishes were almost inedible due to the extremely high sodium content.
I stopped in while in Wayne, looking for an appealing lunch. Found it! Great variety for the Wayn e dining scene. Hospitable staff and owner. Great Margarita. Delicious authentic food.
First, our server tried to seat us in a very small, corner table. My BF is 6'3". When we kindly asked if there was another table available, she said "well we are pretty booked up for reservations." We had also made reservations earlier that week. Strike 1.
Our server was very nice, but she got quadruple sat. Instead of having manager help out and ask if we needed anything, we didn't see anyone until someone dropped off another dish, and took our chips to clear room on the table. Mind you we still have a bowl of guacamole that we paid for on the table. We never got more chips. Strike 2.
Strike 3? The food was salty. The drinks were even saltier. I left feeling like I needed a gallon of water.
Sorry Matador, we won't be back.
Nine of us had lunch on a weekday. Everything we ordered was excellent! We will happily go back. They had no problem accommodating our large group (We ate upstairs).
Have gone here a number of times over the past few years. Good food in a unique setting. Food and service this time we're just "eh". Went on a Wednesday night - server was stretched way too thin - food was just OK - after dinner coffee was like water, and replacement double espresso was cold. Felt like staff was just going through the motions.
Great place. My only complaint was that the menu was limited. I am used to TAPAS restaurants having a myriad of choices. But, the food was very good.
Wonderful waitress and the food was fantastic. Great place to enjoy conversation with friends while enjoying tapas style meal.
We had dinner for 4, including a picky eater. We shared a variety of tapas (10 for the table), and we all left full and happy. Don't forget to order the guacamole, which is made at the table. Not cheap, but very reasonable for the amount and quality of the food. Our waiter was great (knowledgeable and entertaining), and the service was excellent.
Went to the restaurant on Friday evening for dinner. The menu is a somewhat confusing mix of Spanish tapas and Mexican (I'm assuming to please your everyday locals and bar crowd.) The food overall was good and fairly priced with the exception of being charged $8 for a double espresso at the end of the meal.
The restaurant is well decorated and creates a nice ambiance but there is dust EVERYWHERE.
My main concern that would cause me to not return was the lack of service and training of the staff. I ordered the cheese plate which offers you a choice of 3 of the 7 or so cheeses on the menu. Our waitress had little knowledge of the different varieties they offered and since Manchego was the only cheese I recognized on the list, I asked for 3 cheeses that were NOT Manchego that varied in taste and texture. When the cheese arrived at the table, the server did not know what they were and we waited several minutes until our waitress returned, she informed us that we were given 2 cheeses (I don't remember their names) and Manchego, even though I specifically asked for something different. The cheese was accompanied by 3 small pieces of bread and what seemed like 1 dried apricot cut up, 3 very small pieces of diced strawberry, and 3 small pieces of diced beet? My fellow diner ordered a salad without ham that came with ham on it. We also ordered chick peas "three ways" with spinach. When this arrived it was more of a chick pea dip and it tasted good but when I asked the waitress what made it "three ways" she said some of the chick peas were pan seared and fried. To me this is like serving potatoes "three ways" by given you a bowl of mashed with some less mashed than others... Also, again this came with 3 very small pieces of bread which were not enough to eat all of the dip. Dessert was Tres Leches cake (good) and Churros (undercooked).
I would not recommend or return unless they decided to clean more frequently and train their staff in better service.
It is just too costly for what you are receiving. I don't like the fact that they charge $6 for chips and salsa.
Spent Friday evening at Matador's and had an enjoyable casual dinner. Service was a tad slow, but we were in no hurry. Margarita's by the pitcher were featured and good Guacamole can be ordered, prepared tableside. We had a variety of tapas and found them to be good and reasonably priced, with the exception of the lobster, which seemed a bit overpriced for 1/2 a lobster and not overly memorable. The Spanish coffee, on the other hand, comes with a fabulous presentation (they dim all the lights for the preparation), is well worth having, and a fun finish to a meal, with a variety of choices for everyone. Fun evening!
Fun atmosphere, friendly service, upscale casual ambiance. Food was fine and the hot Basketball game was on the TV.
After a visit in the summer of 2016, which was excellent, I returned for a family get together early March. Unfortunately this was a letdown. On the positive side, the margaritas were excellent, table-mixed guacamole was very good. The champignones ( mushrooms) with truffle oil excellent. The octopus was baked, swimming in too much oil, and it was mostly potatoes not much meat - for the price not a good deal. The shrimp was good, the scallops fine, the lamb chops average . The flan was a bit thick. With a lot of options in the area the food quality has to go up to retain its customers.
Great Guacamole, usually good beer selection. Neat upstairs seating
The food and service were very good.
Overall we had a good experience. Note that the menu isn't entirely Spanish. A lot of Tex-Mex. Also beware the arroz con pollo-- the supposed chile sauce is very bitter while at the same time not very flavorful. Strange and not good. On the other hand, we enjoyed the garlic shrimp and lamb chops!
The food just isn't very good. I ordered two tapas and didn't like either one. I was credited for that one that I didn't eat because I complained. We did enjoy the guacamole made table side and the sangria.
The food was good but overpriced even for Tapas. Fish tacos were a full dinner with no tapas option. Was seated next to the front door which let in a good bit of cold air (January).
Second time here and expect more for the price. Won't return.
Near the movies
If you go to Matador, get the champinones.
Authentic tapas dishes presented in a nicely appointed setting. Good, friendly staff.
loved everything we ordered. table side made guac. crab quesadilla, flautas de puerco, wild mushrooms. would go again !!! did order a margarita and felt there was not enough alcohol in it. other than that, dinner was excellent.
Matador does not disappoint. This was our second visit with friends and we gobbled everything up. We are especially fond of the mushroom dish and of course the Paella but everything was delicious - not to mention the margaritas!
Came here for New Years Eve. Wasn't crowded at all and our server was great. Was completely disappointed with the food! Very expensive for food that was not tasteful. There wasn't anything special or flavorful about the food. There was nothing delicious about the table side guacamole- very bland. And the chicken skewers were just as bad. Very disappointed considering the first time I came here was very good.
The service was great . Our waiter was personable, helpful and knowledgeable . Food delicious. Great menu selections. I loved it!
NYE, food was great!!
We went to Matador on a Friday night with a group of 5 and everything was wonderful! We love family style tapas and that is exactly what we had. The service was great, food was delicious, and the ambiance was fun. You have to try the table side flaming Spanish coffee!
I was very disappointed with our recent visit to Matador. The service was horrible- our waiter only came by every 20min and only filled our water once the entire dinner even though our glasses were empty. We would ask for things and they were not brought to us. Also- I've had their margaritas in the past which were always delicious. These margaritas were watered down and bland. We sent them back and they supposedly added a little more tequila but they still tasted watered down- even the citrus flavor was bland. I don't think I'll be coming back here. We spent over $120 for our meal and I expect much better quality and service at this price.
Food was delicious. Love their tableside guacamole. Have only tried vegetarian food.
Our first visit, they have a 2 floor that is more conducive for dinner. 2 floor much quitter. 1st floor in the bar area more noisier, bar scene. The feature tapas, small plates to sample several dishes, good for 1st time visitor/
Great food & sangria, fun dining experience! One of my fav spots!
We have eaten here regularly. Never disappoints. Staff is friendly and attentive. Food is excellent from the charcuterie to the paella.
Nice ambience and our server was fantastic but food was bland and did not warrant the high price tag.
