Food was so-so -- not as good as it has been in the past. Once again, my tapas dishes arrived all at once, and after my dinner companions had almost finished. That's the second time that has happened. I don't think we'll go back.
We tried Matador many years ago and enjoyed it a lot. Due to many choices in the area, it was a while before we finally came back. We stopped in for a light dinner. Not as good as the first time. Service is still excellent. Guacamole at the table was just crushed avocado, didn't see any other ingredients added and it was bland for our taste. Selected a number of tapas and almost all of them were over-salted. The mushrooms in particular had no flavor besides salt. We left disappointed because we liked it so much the first time. Maybe it was just an off-night. Still, with so many great choices around, not sure if/when we'll give Matador another try.
I’ve visited before and the service has been great. But this last time was worse than mediocre. First, the Palomas drinks had zero alcohol in them. It was just grapefruit juice served as such.
I tried to order the octopus, but the server somehow had literally no idea of what octopus was. She kept asking “calamari?”
Then, the table was so tiny that trying to arrange the plates, my glass fell and broke. The server cleaned the floor but never the table, nor did she care to remove the broken glass.
As if this wasn’t bad enough service, we were pretty much urged to leave at not even 10 pm on a Friday. We actually had to look up the restaurant hours online to see if we had stayed too long. The restaurant closes at 11 on Friday nights, yet we had to cut our conversation short and leave so they could finish cleaning up.
I agree that this restaurant has gone downhill. It’s truly baffling how good restaurants ruin their own reputation by not caring to offer decent service.
Had a great meal at Matador. Food and ambiance felt very authentic and we left very full. Fried goat cheese and honey was amazing. Great wine selection too! Would definitely return.
The restaurant was practically empty so not sure why the service was so slow. Decent food but was disappointed with service.
Had a terrific tapas dinner, with another retired couple, on a Tuesday night. All agreed that the food was some of the best the four of us have experienced in many years of restaurant dining.
Our server was very pleasant, and although there were a couple of slow spots in the food service, our beers and margaritas were refilled as needed.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable meal, and have already recommended Matador to friends.
We have eaten here on many occasions. This experience was not like others. The service was sub par, to say the least. We waited a long time for someone to come to the table to greet and give menus, and the waiting just continued throughout our entire meal. The waitress was short and abrupt. The restaurant was at full capacity and seemed under staffed. The food was average. I was embarrassed because we highly recommended this place to the others in our party. We requested outside seating, but that was not able to be honored which was fine and understandable and didn't have any impact on this rating.
We had a great dinner. My wife and I were celebrating a belated anniversary. Our server was very helpful and friendly. The food was so good. I highly recommend the Octopus and calamari tapas.
Service was horrible
Our table was abysmally licated
Always a good meal at Matador. We ordered a large amount of Tapas and the entire group left full and happy.
Good guacamole and chips. All else mediocre.
Food was fair and very salty. My margarita had glass in it that I spit into my hand and they just replaced my drink. We will not be back as this place had really gone down hill. Bartender nor waiter called over management and did not seem to care that I almost swallowed ground Nd glass.
Felt the food was all extremely salty, but I enjoyed the ambiance, tableside guacamole and margaritas.
Overpriced bland Mexican food where service was AWFUL. Our dinner came out cold and we never got our appetizers. The food had no taste no salt and none on the tables. The waitress could not be found and we never even got water refills. Over $100 for dinner and taco bell would have been better!
The roast suckling pig carved table side was especially fabulous!
My wife and I went on a Saturday night date, and we were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the ambient.
We always enjoy dining at Matador and this time was no exception. All of the tapas dishes we ordered were delightful. The Chorizo was exceptionally good and the mushrooms are to die for! We of course had to have the paella - which was excellent as well. The drinks (margarita and white sangria) continue to be consistently good. One disappointment was the service. Although it was not unusually busy when we were there our server took forever to take our order and service continued to be spotty throughout the meal.
The waitress was terrible. She had no idea what she was doing. It took 15-20 minutes to get someone to come to our table and we had two young hungry children. Food was not great. Table side Guacamole was the only good thing we had. Seafood tasted funny so we didn't eat it. No chance that I will return there or recommend it.
It seems like this restaurant, which we liked to go to in the past, is having financial issues. The margaritas were water-downed, the portions on main courses were less; the service is provided by new, inexperienced staff and less attentiveness. For the fees charged for Tapas and Main courses, it is no longer a choice to come here anymore.
The place has nice decor and a grown up vibes (would not recommend taking kids). Although the place provides an authentic Mexican appearance, the place provides a limited menu and the food was subpar. The steak tacos were decent however the shrimp tacos lacked flavor. The rice was bland. During our stay, the waiter forgot to bring me my drink, which i waited almost 20 mins. After this experience, the owner felt sorry about our experience and comped our whole meal. The owner was nice and said he would make changes to the meals in future guest. All in all, not a bad night.
This used to b one of our favorite spots, but the food was nothing special. It took forever to get seated for our reservation (lots of confusion although many open tables) and the service was really slow. Our server knocked over our water while we heard another nearby server’s tray crash to the floor. We won’t be back anytime soon.
There for lunch. Service great. Table side guacamole very good. Angel margaritas very smooth. Try the octopus salad!
We went for my daughter’s birthday. We had a fabulous time. It was a Wednesday night so the restaurant was not crowded we pretty much had the upstairs to ourselves. Our waiter Jose was wonderful and very accommodating. Quality of the food was very good everything was delicious and we had leftovers even though we ordered small plates. I highly recommend Matador.
Wonderful Food, excellent service, excellent Margaritas. I come here with friends for lunch, and always have a delightful meal and enjoy the wonderful service. I highly recommend the crab cake, which can be served in a sandwich or even better, on its own with a salad. Yum. And The guacamole is fresh made at the table. What could be better? And those Margaritas! Love this place!
I met an old girlfriend for dinner.
I was really looking forward to a great Mexican dinner.
We both ordered fajitas. The presentation and quality of both platters was poor.
It kills me to pay a high bill when the experience was unpleasant.
I know why the restaurant was almost empty.
We tried Matador for the first time. The owner (and executive chef) greeted us at the door. We enjoyed a delicious margarita at the bar first, then went upstairs to have dinner. The servers were attentive. Since our paella was going to take a while (we were warned), we enjoyed a few delish small dishes first. The only "bad" part was that the paella was a bit salty, but still good. We will go back.
Mediocre. Can’t decide if it is a Spanish or Mexican place. Not a good value for the price. 2 soups were on the menu they said they no longer were serving. There are Mexican joints just as good for a lot less money. Will not go back.
PLEASE READ THE WHOLE REVIEW! We didn't have the best experience. A new waitress was assigned to our table and she wasn't very good. I think with the right wait staff this review would be 5 stars across the board. FIRST the food was excellent!!! We had a few issues like -- dishes piling up on our table -- not so good. Wrong dishes served (things we did not order) and forgetting our forks and spoons. There were a few more, but that is not what is important. When we asked to see the manager, the owner came over instead and listened to the issues we had. He apologized and said " you will not be charged for the meal." I was surprised that he listened to our complaints instead of making excuses for it. I definitely would like to come back again when I am in town and give this place another try. I will not knock it entirely because of one bad waitress.
Server was sweet but seemed to have to do everything. No one came to full water. One meal came out 10 min before the rest. Food was very good. Was never asked if we wanted another drink. Was really hoping to like it more.
Been there a couple of times, namely because my wife likes the appetizers (ok, the tapas).
The tapas are ok, but nothing that would send you into gustatory ecstasy.
Mostly, though, I think serving small dishes is just a ploy to get you to run up your bill.
On a more recent visit, the tapas were acceptable, but the guacamole was serving was less than generous and tasted bland to boot. (Yes, I know, it's an old joke: A couple walks out of a restaurant. She says, "The food was terrible!" He says, "Yea, and such small portions."
My fish Veracruzano was a failure: The stripped bass had little flavor and what there was almost overwhelmed by an overabundance of the traditional toppings that come with this dish.
And, oh yes, the Margarita. Like drinking water. Much to the waiter's credit, when I pointed that out he brought a tumbler of additional Tequila. Now, that was a Margarita!
We had a Great time. This Restaurant was extremely accommodating to my party of 11's needs.
I would recommend them again!
Everything was great except that we were seated underneath one of their speakers and sometimes it was really hard to hear our conversation just across the table... I wasn't so much that it was loud (although it was) but it was like the equalization was way treble-y, and also, they were playing a live album or something and every time the crowd cheered it completely drowned out our conversation which got to be annoying at one point. Maybe adjust the volume and EQ to make for a more pleasant experience...
Nice atmosphere, bartender was excellent. As for dinner food average, expensive and service not so great.
Liked the food. Quacamole is really good. Octopus is fiery but you can ask for it to be toned down. Salads are well crafted. We keep having Jose as our waiter and he hasn't steered us wrong with selections. Upstairs is definitely more quiet for a conversation.
Drunken chicken special was delicious.
Relaxing to sit outside.
It was a great experience. I would recommend going to the Matador!
Service and food were great! Waiter was very accommodating.
The service and atmosphere were excellent except for we were in the main dining area near the bar and a group of people came in who were screaming at each other. Several tables that came in moved up stairs and we would have too except we were in the middle of our meal. The restaurant can't really do a lot about that but I think that they could have asked that group to quiet down just just a tad since this was like 6 p.m. and no one else was able to have a normal conversation. The food was very good and not overly priced, but there are no prices on the website menu and the menu was very different from the menu in the restaurant.
