The food is great, but the cost is really steep. A bowl of Chirasi with like 12 pieces of sashimi and some rice is $34. Portland is competitive, Masu is not. I'd rather fractionally lower the quality and get a price point that matches. I don't mind a $50 plate, when it's worth it. I just don't like paying 50 for something I should have paid 40 for. Presentation is good, fish is fresh, servers are nice. Atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired.
Masu Sushi (and Bamboo Sushi) are places I've frequented for years. Sustainable sushi served up with good vibes. Great for power lunches!
Third visit to Masu since moving to Portland and love it. Good selection of maki and creative rolls. Service is very friendly and welcoming. Easy parking. We will be back and highly recommend to others.
This is a great restaurant for Japanese small plates and really good cocktails. A very nice ambience - cozy on a rainy evening.
Why do people go out? For an exceptional dining experience delivered in a welcoming atmosphere. That is what happens at Masu Sushi! You can order in bits and pieces . You can order a traditional meal. It is all good.
Food was not worth the price. Miso soup was extremely salty and meat on our fried rice was tough and tasteless. Waiter was inattentive and dropped check on the table before we had finished our meal.
Great food. Great service. You get what you pay for.
The varied and just-creative-enough menu combined with the cool location make this the perfect ‘insiders’ spot NOT a touristy let-down! Unique twists on solid favorites in a chic and comfortable space. My go-to fave for sure!!
Service was poor - my wife was served her dinner and had finished it by the time my appetizer was delivered.
Always fresh and interesting sushi rolls and starters. The calamari appetizer was especially good.
We had a larger party (9) and everyone felt very well taken care of, from gluten accommodations (the waitress came back to run down the order to make sure) to sakè pointers and extra, later, orders.
Wonderful service and food, I would completely recommend the spot and eat there again.
Food was good, but it was on the expensive side. It is worth a try. If you like sushi, definitely worth trying once.
Very good food all around. Fresh and well prepared. The smoked cod was amazing!
Awesome food. Noise level was very high.
This lovely, spacious restaurant was just right for a rainy night. Excellent ramen- tasty broth, velvety noodles, crispy pork belly. Sushi was plentiful and fresh. We will be back next time we are in Portland!
The food was well thought out and tasted amazing. Our waitress was friendly and recommended great tasting sake for my date. I will definitely be back!
Masu Sushi was absolutely delicious, it's a treat every time, the Salmon is divine and the service is excellent!
Great spot for an intimate night out! Great sushi, great drinks!
Fresh catch of the day was the best!! Everything is always top notch.
Super friendly and amazing Staff
Food was out of this world
Be going back
We love MASU! Best sushi in PDX.
Honestly some of worst service I have ever gotten. I really hope they step up their game for other customers, because, I for one am not coming back anytime soon.
Was seated 30 minutes late. Then took 15 minutes to get our drinks. Food took over an hour to get. We saw people get seated after us get food and pay before we got our food. Wait staff never asked of we wanted more food or drinks.
Hello ! My wife and I had a reservation for two at 8pm. We showed up at the hostess stand at 8pm sharp. We managed a place to sit and wait by about 8:25pm (standing before that)... we received a drink (offered on arrival) at 8:52pm, and ended up seated at a table at 9:14pm.
After that the service was immaculate and the food was fantastic !
I would say don't offer reservations if that is the best you can do with honoring them...
Hope to dine with you again but will think twice about coming at busy times.
Great ambiance and delicious sushi! You can't go wrong here.
Great food! Sat at the sushi bar super nice sushi guys.
The food was very good to excellent. We had sushi, real wasabi, miso, and edamame. We also had a small bottle of excellent sake (Watari Bune). The staff were efficient but relaxed and fun to talk to. We never lacked for water or attention. The only issue was the time it took to for our food to arrive. Almost an hour. Turns out the third sushi chef was out that night slowing the process. Had we known that when we ordered we might have gotten a small plate our two to tide us over. The manager was kind enough to give us a break on the bill due to the wait. Beautiful decor. Great location. They have an elevator in case the stairs are an issue.
Love the dull sake menu. We usually order cocktails because they are so good here but this time we ordered a bottle of sake. It was excellent. The food is always fresh. One of my favorites is the oysters (the best I have ever had) and the volcano roll.
Nice cocktails, friendly staff everywhere and wonderful Sushi cuisine. Love the decor and 'vibe'. Will be back.
Thought we were trying someplace new but when we arrived & saw the long stairway up, we remembered coming here. Masu serves quality food on a limited menu but servings are very small for their pricing.
The food was downright glorious we are coming back for sure. Try the chef plates!
Great sushi, great service. Always a wonderful dining experience. 5 stars
Great food but could use a lot of work on service took 30 min to get food and about 10-15 for drinks
Some of the freshest and most delicious sushi I have had anywhere. Service can be a bit slow from the sushi bar to the tables and wait staff can be a bit inattentive.
Excellent dinner had by the whole party. Recommend.
First date material to proposal date material, this place is a gem!
Great! Had delivery
This is the second time I've returned to Masu and I can't wait to come back again! They have a fantastic variety of roll options, but my personal favorite is the Death by Sushi. WOW is it incredible! I highly recommend this for a date night, girls night out, or just if you're in the mood for some authentic sushi.
Best sushi I have had in Portland. Their sake list is impressive and lengthy.
