My first experience here was with my teen age son and we both loved it. It was a Friday lunch and he said "Mom, this is my new go-to sushi spot in Portland." We loved the calamari best of all - delicate like pasta and slightly spicey. The restaurant during the day is cozy and bright and there are dozens of nice touches to the decor - simple yet elegant. We then invited our foodie friends to join us for a weeknight last minute get together. The ambiance is upscale, but coze.
Our table shared sushi (must try the the death by sushi roll and the many cleverly named rolls are on our bucket list) and the plated dishes (a great option for the gluten intolerant and the vegetarian) Even the sides were delightful. Thumbs up all around.

Incredible depth of sake list! Sushi was very satisfying at very reasonable cost.

I will return because I've heard great things about Masu. Unfortunately we were a little disgruntled with the service. Took 20 minutes before order was taken. Another 35 before food arrived. When we got there, the restaurant was far from full. The quality of the food was good, and the ambiance very good. We'll try again another time.

The waiter was great. Very attentive and right there when we needed him. The food was amazing. And the sake was delicious. We will be back! I recommended the Nemo roll and the Transformer!

very good service, great customer service, from host desk to end of the meal. We sat at Sushi Bar, the chefs were fantastic. we had a fun and enjoyed time chatting, joking and learning about various Fish, their origin, slicing and knives used to cut fish. Even learned how to pronounce MISO the correct way and the meal, outstanding.

There was lipstick stain on the glass they brought me and the waitress didn’t actually order the nigiri we orderd on the sheet. Out of all the items she did order, one item never came. The sushi roll was good but the ramen is very over cooked.

I really enjoy their sushi (the Chirashi bowl being my favorite dish). But the rest is just okay. The environment is a bit hit or miss, if you sit by the window you might get really cold and in some of the central tables it gets really noisy because of the high ceilings and the configuration of the room. Also, they just raised their prices by 15-20%. Masu is no longer going to be my first option for sushi.

We traveled into Portland from Buffalo with our 2 year old - and found Masu extremely accommodating for our family. The food was excellent, and they served it quickly to give us a chance to enjoy before we needed to get our little daughter home to her bed time.

Not a Japanese restaurant to be recommended. The o-toro sashimi we ordered was poor quality. We ordered ama ebi but got normal ebi instead.

Absolutely awful. Service was non-existent. 15min elapsed before we even got water.
My sushi eventually arrived even though the server failed to mention that the Uni I ordered was unavailable. My wife's simple salad & gyoza order came 30min later. The unfriendly server blamed the kitchen's delay on the full moon. There was peeling paint @plate level by our table. THIS RESTAURANT S/B CLOSED ASAP!!!!!

Erin our waitress was wonderful, fun from the beginning, greeted by a little blonde who took our picture and was fun to joke with. Wish they had more on the menu with 10 pieces, like Death by Sushi, which was very good.

Expensive and just OK. The Chinook salmon sashimi was a standout but for 22 dollars for 7 pieces with no rice, it was a bit pricey. The sushi rolls were mediocre and not very flavorful. The seaweed salad was, again, expensive and not all that tasty. Not impressed with the food for the price.

Masu is a special place. Always consistent high quality sushi and a great selection of specials to try. If you are adventurous always go for the specials, they are great quality and chance to try some different sushi and cuts. Our waitress was awesome and made recommendations for sushi and sake. Another awesome experience at Masu!

One of the best Japanese meals (sashimi chef's special bowl) and possibly one of the best meals I've had of any type. Very fresh - beautiful second floor space - nice crowd - helpful server. I will absolutely be back.

Made a reservation through OpenTable for a friends birthday, we still had to wait a bit, a busy Saturday night. Staff was apologetic and able to get us to a table 15min after our reservation. The food, drinks, and service made up for the initial delay. I encourage you to go for their entrees, sushi was delicious but expensive, entrees were fantastic! Overall come here if you are looking for a fun night out, a nice place to come to treat yourself.

The restaurant has a tall ceiling which crates a comfortable open space. The windows has a retro texture and nice to look outside trees and street. Place is stylish and clean. Sever was very attentive. Uni was good. I liked the cold soba and the crispy mackerel, nice presentation on the plate.

We went for a special birthday. Service was average and the hostess snooty, so we felt like a burden. The waitress was nice just slow and we had to keep asking for our drinks etc. Not what we had expected at sll and wont be back
