Masu Sushi & Robata Ratings and Reviews
Wonderful food, attentive service, lively atmosphere....a good place to enjoy Japanese food in a casual neighborhood restaurant. There for a family birthday, our group enjoyed the Masu and Firecracker rolls in particular. The server brought me hot water with lemon, since there is no herbal tea option; this was a thoughtful touch. The Japanese Manhattan was a hit. We plan to return to try some of the noodle dishes and other interesting things on the extensive and creative menu.
The steamed pork buns, edamame, and the ginger chicken ramen were all
Lovely setting, great service and good for a late dinner!
We were early and we were told to wait in the bar. The waiter came to us
immediately and took our order - delivered in less than 3 minutes.
Good sushi although a bit pricey. Went with a Chef's assortment and they accommodated my request for no tempura. Booths are set up for 2 people to sit next to each other. Makes it odd for conversation as it felt like we couldn't look at each other. I'm sure we could have moved to another table but decided to stick it out.
My husband and I are both vegetarian and enjoy veggie rolls. When we found out Masu has a vegetarian and vegan menu, we decided to try it out. The vegetarian sushi rolls were delicious, and the drinks were great too! We would skip on the noodles next time and just enjoy the sushi and charred broccoli. We will definitely be back.
My husband and I went to Masu for dinner before a concert. We loved the Tuna Tataki, Raman and Sushi. We tried the Soba noodles and I wasn't a big fan of the broth, so they swapped out the Ramen for me, fantastic swap. Very Friendly and helpful staff, the food was delicious. We enjoyed their beer selection, the atmosphere and would come back again anytime!
Food was amazing again...but service was "slow". There were ranges of time when we had no idea where our server was. We were ordering robata and other small dishes and there wasn't a lot of timely checking back. It was Saturday evening, so I understand things can get busy.
A more troubling situation was how HOT it was in the restaurant--even when we got there at 5:30. The A.C. clearly wasn't keeping up. Time to get the system checked out before next year's summer season!
We had our first meal at Masu on Sunday night. It was a family meal for my wife's birthday, so we had a group of four.
The staff was great, food came out quickly and was prepared perfectly. We tried a few new items (rice bowl and tuna shushi) everything was great.
I would recommend this place for great shushi!
Called ahead of time to let them know our group of 8 was coming for my boyfriend's birthday dinner. They really went above and beyond to help us have a great time. I will mention that our food took a long time to come out (45 mins - possibly longer), but we were a large group and were in good company, so it didn't really affect our enjoyment of the meal. Our server took time to explain the sake menu to those interested and was super knowledgeable.
I don't normally write reviews, but this is an axtraotdinary restaurant that I hope is around for years to cbe me. Please patronize them. You will be glad you did. We tried several dishes that we shared amongst our group, and we loved everything from the sushi to the appetizer Pork ribs. Great variety, spice, flavor and textures. Yum.
The food was ok, not as good as last time we were there, it was not busy but it took a long time to get food, that would have been ok, we were not in a hurry but our server never checked on us. I ran out of beer halfway through the meal and was never offered another, others at our table also ran out of drinks. They have an open floor plan and you can see into the kitchen which is great until you see your server constantly talking with other employees instead of helping guests. Overall pretty disappointed.
Birthday mochi was a great touch. I love the food and am a fan of the place but I did find the noodles in my tonkatsu curry ramen a little undercooked and stuck together. Normally everything is phenomenal, and it was still good, but just a little off tonight from the normal high quality that Masu has delivered past meals.
The appetizers are better than the sushi. Unfortunate to come on a date around 8:15 and there are kids there. Maybe I'm just getting old, but somehow I expect that people won't bring their kids to a sushi place after 8pm. Wrong. Also unfortunate to make a reservation for two and all of the tables with ambiance around the edge of the restaurant have been taken, some of them by people with the aforementioned kids. I used to think making a reservation for two meant they would try and hold a good date table for you. Again, wrong. $45 a person and a $20 tip doesn't get you what it used to. On the upside, the server and appetizers were great, and there were a few good tap beer options, which is more than a lot of sushi places can offer. I would normally eat sushi at a place so close to my house 2-3 times a month if the sushi was above average and I could expect no kids after 8pm. Until then I'll visit 2-3 times a year. Would still recommend, just think there could be some improvements and considerations for the adults spending a few more bucks.
