Mason's at Loews Vanderbilt Hotel Ratings and Reviews
Food was well prepared with thoughtful touches. Unfortunately, both our soup course and main course arrived lukewarm. It would have been so much better if both courses would have been served really hot. The desserts were wonderful. Very well prepared and just the right size. The meal was fairly expensive for the food we had, but we enjoyed the company of our good friends.
The menu was rather limited. I didn't mind the Meat & 3 option but I didn't feel there was much choice or variety. The Pumpkin Soup and Fig Old Fashioned were amazing. The pork shoulder, creamed corn and sautéed mushrooms were good, but didn't blow my socks off. Didn't have dessert but the coffee was horribly burnt and not even consumable. The server, Derek, was amazing and made some great recommendations specifically about the soup and cocktail choices.
Food was great. Nice selection of wines. Two people had the shrimp and grits and said it was the best they had ever had. I had the hot fish was quite good and not too too spicy. I have two issues with the restaurant though. First, very hard to find appetizers to split. Our waiter suggested the cobb salad which we split only we then had to ask for serving spoons for it. It was quite good but not really a great appetizer to share for 4 people. Put some descriptions on the food. We had to ask what airline chicken was and what hot fish was. There were descriptions on the appetizers but not on the meals. Also, a couple found it confusing as to what was actually on the menu. As I said though, food was great and will definitely go back.
A pleasant surprise! Both the food and the service were top notch. This was especially appreciated as we had eaten the night before at another restaurant where we had less than stellar service. We enjoyed Mason's very much and will eat here again when we return to Nashville. For all 4 of us, the food was very good, as were the waiter's recommendations. Thank you for a great meal!
Despite a 10:45am reservation, we weren't seated for 20 minutes. The maître d' said our table was "being cleaned"...in a half empty restaurant.
We told the maître d' we had to get going by 11:45am for the eclipse, but even then, no one came to our table. Finally, 30 minutes after our reservation time and with no menus/service in sight, we had to leave.
Burger/sliders were excellent. Sat at the Mason's bar to amp up the energy (served full menu). The restaurant area was too quiet for our tastes. Cocktails are spot on. Service was fantastic. Get the bread pudding for dessert.
Over truffle sales fries, hummus no flavor, sweet potato chips old, pork dry and flavorless, steak was tender but under cooked, creamed mushrooms very good, mac n cheese tasty. Service was great but we were the only table at dinner time, only two more came in while we were there. No a great dinning experience.
We were not staying at the hotel, but found the restaurant via OpenTable. The restaurant area we were in was largely empty as most people were by the bar and the big game going on. The host/server was absolutely wonderful. He was patient, very knowledgeable, and very easy to talk to. The food was wonderful and the ambiance was excellent for our group of 8.
Wow! What creativity this chef has with local farm to table yummies! After perusing the menu for the longest time, we ordered items recommended by our waiter.
We started with an order of the Carnitas Tacos and were pleasantly surprised by the mounds of meat on the tortillas. Excellent flavor profile - moist meat - scrumptious verde sauce. Devoured them in under five minutes. We ordered the Hog N Hominy plate as well to be overwhelmed by a huge portion of juicy pork bursting with flavor on top of a hominy grit base and cornbread. Whewee it made our taste buds sing with delight! Lastly we ordered a BBQ Pork sandwich and their "famous" BBQ potato chips. Said sammie had at least 4 inches high of perfectly smoked shredded pork slathered in a perfectly seasoned bbq sauce and topped with a heaping helping of sassy slaw.
We WILL return to try the rest of the menu soon!
This is a good choice after work when I don't want to get the car out. I see the food as a little overdescribed and underwhelming. On this dine, my creamed mushrooms were virtually inedible because of the rubbery and woody pieces I had to spit out, although the flavoring was nice. The creamed corn and airline chicken were good, but not exceptional. On an earlier occasion, I ate the hog & hominy. The pickled cabbage was used for garnish only and should not have rated a mention. Likewise the hominy was in little evidence. The dish tasted good but wasn't as advertised, in my opinion. The waitstaff are engaging and the atmosphere is quiet, so I will probably eat here again since I stay at Loews when I'm in Nashville.
I often go to Masons, but Friday night there was some kind of large reception going on in the bar area and the noise was overpowering, including a heavily amplified band and singer. I could barely hear my server. I ordered a drink and left without having dinner. The server, who recognized me from my many visits, was embarrassed and apologetic. It was a disaster of an experience, made all the more disappointing because Masons was where I wanted to eat. At least the cocktail was good. Lowes should book large receptions like this in a ballroom or some space other than one that will ruin dining for anyone planning on a nice meal. It was rude to all the customers save the ones at the reception. An unusually disappointing experience.
Great experience! They were nice enough to let us opt out of the special prefixed NYE menu since we had a concert to make it to. Ordered some apps for the table and entrees. Shrimp and Grits were DIVINE. The burger was also fantastic. Thank you for the great service and dining experience to start off our New Years Eve!
My boyfriend and I went for lunch this past winter Sunday for brunch and had a three course meal with bar drinks. The lamb meatballs (appetizer) were delicious. We were disappointed in the Bloody Mary's, but my mimosa was just fine. My boyfriend was not impressed with the brunch Cali style burrito, but I ordered the steak and eggs and it was great. The steak was cooked exactly how I ordered it. The potatoes could have used some seasoning, but tasted fine with ketchup. We then ordered the chocolate mousse cake for dessert. It was good. The decor was very elegant and festive. The restaurant was very clean. We were the only couple at the time, but assumed it was due to the cold weather and Holiday shopping. Some soft music would have been nice since there were no other voices being heard. I do, however, need to brag about our server. I do not remember his name, but he was one of the best waiters I've ever had. He was polite, familiar with the menu, gave us recommendations and opinions, and always made sure we had a full glass of water. He was on top of it and made sure we were fully satisfied, and even offered us a free parking pass. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends, family, and coworkers.
Booked week before using OpenTable.
Expected upon arrival which was welcoming.
Had private dining room as a group business lunch.
Courteous and efficient service, outstanding decor , interesting and varied menu .door staff very nice and convivial entering and leaving hotel the restaurant is within .
I was most disappointed. This place was highly recommended. Not enough wait staff. Server was nice, but had too many tables. Food was adequate, but nothing special for a Sunday brunch. Entire experience was very vanilla. Nothing horrible, nothing memorable.
This was our second year eating here for Easter Brunch. Everyone else must have opted for the all-you-can-eat buffet because we've had no trouble both years getting a reservation. The bloody Marys that we started with were delicious and my husband found a beer on tap that suited him. The mascarpone-stuffed french toast was delicious, I only wish there had been more than 2 pieces of rather small bread. I'm not a big eater, so if I thought it was a bit sparse it was! The Black Keys breakfast wrap was tasty as was the Cubano. Our server was attentive and the pacing of the food was good as we didn't feel rushed or that we had a long wait either. We'll probably go again next year for Easter!
I come to Mason's often , usually for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. Occasionally dinner. I usually have a good experience, although it is quite common to have to stand at the entrance for an unusually long time before anyone notices you're there. But my last visit, for a Sunday breakfast, was not good. As usual, a long wait to be seated (with reservations). Terrible service, although I blame understaffing and not the server, who was nice enough if not exactly attentive. Sat for a long, long time before she came back after giving us coffee. Finally got to order. Had the bad luck to be at a table next to a table of very loud people who seemed to be imbibing. They made conversation at our table difficult. But the room was full, so moving was not an option. This was an unusual experience -- usually my visits to Mason's are very nice. But the last one was a bust.
We've dined at Mason's many times and are particularly fond of their breakfast/brunch and lunch menus. This time we had a special request...a vegan meal for a guest. Not only did they create an on-the-spot meal, it was truly delicious. The service was slow that night .... not sure why since we've been there many times before but our server was awesome and actually paid for two drinks because everything was so slow and offered desert as well..but we were all full.
The only thing I might not recommend was the halibut; it was overcooked and dry but everything else was terrific. Appetizers are worth the extra weight!
