The best food, service and nice people eating there. My only concern about giving a great review is that too many people might overwhelm the staff and dilute the quality! But it’s no understatement to say I have never had a bad meal here. The quality and quantity is second to none!
Always a lovely spot to have dinner - Masona is a real neighborhood gem. It is our go-to place when we want a lovely meal, don't want to drive far, not struggle for parking and enjoy dinner!
My wife and I used to love Masona Grill; we've been there numerous times. We went last Saturday for a nice celebration dinner for my 40th birthday. Masona is not an inexpensive restaurant... the plates average around $25. So when all is said and done, it's not a cheap meal. We knew this-- we were looking to have a nice meal, and were ready to spend some money on it.
The problem was that when it came time to pay our bill at the end of the meal, we were informed that they only accept cash for the gratuity (due to the 'rising costs of credit card fees.') Come on, really? We didn't have very much cash on us, since we were expecting a higher than normal meal, so we had obviously planned to use a credit card to pay. This was *extremely* off-putting, and made the owner of the restaurant seem petty and cheap. If a business chooses to offer payment by credit card (especially a nicer restaurant) then that business is accepting that the credit card fees are part of the overhead expenses. Expecting people to have the amount of cash on them to pay for a separate tip is not only unrealistic, but it's also unprofessional and shady-seeming.
This alone will prevent us from returning to this restaurant, which is a shame, because we really used to like Masona. We would also not recommend a place that does this. The rising costs of credit card fees is not a customer's issue with which to deal, and I'm still in disbelief that this actually happened, as I've never even heard of this concept before at a nice restaurant.
Downward spin.... not the same as it used to be at all....food was mediocre at best. I used to love going there but the last 2 times (including this time) have not been the best experience. This time they have substituted food without telling me when I ordered it. They definitely have dropped from my top 10 list.
Always a fabulous meal at Masona Grill! Excellent service, excellent food!
Sweet neighborhood gem with good solid tasty food, slightly eclectic menu. Wait staff and owner very friendly and accommodating.
This restaurant needs more help. There’s no bartender so the servers have to do everything. They were out of all shrimp on a Friday night at 6:00, meanwhile you could walk to Roche Bros 2 minutes away and buy it. Mussels were dried up but the broth was good. Duck was over cooked too, but not bad. Eggplant was good. Needs to up its game to survive. Too many new options.
Very good. I highly recommend pork milanese and tres leches
Always a great meal in a warm inviting atmosphere. Love the mushroom bisque.Husband loves the scallops. A true neighborhood gem.
A hidden gem!
Lovely evening at a true neighborhood gem. We frequently eat here - it is always good, very pleasant and great to support a local restaurant. We will be back!
We hadn't been to Mason Grill for a few years, and in spite of the good food, they still do not have enough staff to make it a great dining experience. Our second drink order was completely wrong and slow. Our server was as attentive as she could be - she was just spread too thin.
We went to Masona Grill for Valentine’s Day because we know we’ll have an excellent meal in a restaurant that has a noise level that allows a normal conversation. The appetizers were very good and the short ribs exceptional. The wines we had (a red and a white) were very good and dessert was OK. We’ll be back when the “special occasion is a Friday or a Tuesday or something.
I love this restaurant. The service is great, the food is delicious, and the atmosphere is cozy and comfortable. You can't go wrong with Masonsa Grill.
Is a JEWEL!! Service, food, everything is GREAT!!!
Strange entrance, wasn't initially obvious which door to use. Dark when entering, making one feel like they came in the wrong way. Initially felt cold when seated, maybe improved. Employees were warm and genuine. Nice options on the menu, were willing to modify items as needed. Drinks were good and served up properly. Manny’s Peruvian Paella was said to be spicy, but it wasn't. Rice not worth eating. Peppered Tuna had very little pepper on it. The carrots were great. Hand cut fries were very thin, and probably not cut with a knife(?); I expected them to be about 5 times thicker. Fries tasted good though and were not greasy. Salads were refreshing, with a great flavor. Quality of Tuna made me feel like maybe it was previously frozen? Chocolate dessert was good, my wife really loved it, but I was not impressed. Glad to have visited, but we are in no rush to head back again.
As always, this is a very pleasant and consistently good place to have a meal with friends. The space is comfortable and it is quiet & private enough to have real conversation while enjoying dinner. Everyone gets attention from the owner and his efforts to please are well appreciated.
Love Masona when we are looking for something local. But truly, I would travel for their food as well. Everything we have had has been unique and flavorful. Caesar salad is perfectly dressed and has white anchovies (love that!), I have had a tuna entree that they have had on the menu for a couple of months. Sliced tuna steak with crab rangoon and a great vegetable medley. Duck breast special one night was prepared perfectly. My daughter had a linguine with clam dish that was also just perfect.
The layout of the restaurant is quirky, but gives the opportunity for intimate dining. Having been dining at the restaurant for about 8 years, I think at this point it could use a little freshening up.
The last couple of times we have gone, there has only been 1 server for 50 seats (or more). On, let's say, a Tuesday this isn't a problem. On a Saturday when the place can be full, this is a problem. Food was still great and came out at appropriate times for appetizers and entrees. But I couldn't get the server to my table to get another drink or refill our waters, and there was no way we were ordering dessert when our dishes didn't get cleared for quite some time. Also, it can then take a while to settle your check. I wish they would have more than 1 server...really, the place would be able to accommodate more people and service the people that are there. Really, my only disappointment. I will go back, but they have to have more service on busy nights.
I keep trying to like this place since it is in my neighborhood but there are just too many things that are not good starting with the temperature of the restaurant. It's so cold in this place and always is. The waiter did not write down our order. Why is this? Is he trying to prove something about his memory? Well, he forgot my side order....fine....we weren't charged for it. The food is just Ok but my husband and I both had stomach issues the morning after. I think I am done trying this place.
Potato soup was delicious. Memorable. Fish and chips were excellent as well. A hidden gem! Unfairly undersubscribed because of its off the beaten path location. Easy parking too.
Awesome place! Will definitely go again, take all my friends,, celebrate any occasion. Loved food, atmosphere, location, everything!
Great Great great fun fun fun!!!
Awesome! Incredible! I enjoy a lot a great taste and the best service!
Masona never disappoints. It's our neighborhood place; we eat there a half-dozen times a year. Food is always fresh, flavorful and creative. Service is always friendly. We believe most diners will enjoy a visit to Masona.
Had not been since they opened and was pleasantly surprised. Food was amazing. We will be back
The fried oysters, the mushroom bisque and the roast duck were exquisite. The fish & chips and the crispy eggplant were a little lack luster.
Our waiter was GREAT. He was knowledgeable and attentive but left us to enjoy our friends.
The sponge cake with Carmel and chocolate sauce was FABULOUS.
The food was absolutely delicious. We started with an appetizer of oysters which were fantastic. My friends ordered the scallops and they were raving about it. The paella was very fresh. The portions are very generous.
The only downside to this restaurant is it can be very drafty and I had to eat with my coat on.
Superior food. Quiet and efficient service. Look forward to returning.
It was a great first time experience at Masona grill. We had a 2 year old who likes to scream (cheerfully) but the restaurant was loud enough that it didn't really bother anyone. But unlike some sports bars, the loudness was manageable and we could still have good communication. Food was superb. I had duck breast and was moist and amazing. I lived the sweet potato on the side. We will go back for sure but it's too pricy for us to go there more than once in couple of months.
Great for special occasions.
The owner advised us shortly after we were seated that someone had called out and that he would both wait on us and cook our meals. Then the two Cabernets on the menu were not available. Our drinks and bread basket arrived fairly quickly and then it was a good long time until our meals were served (we did not order appetizers or salads). We didn’t mind too much as we’re enjoying each other’s company and having good conversation. We ordered dessert and cappuccinos but the coffee cups were only half full. We were the last party at the restaurant by the time we left. Overall good food. A little chilly to go in the winter. Too bad they were so short staffed.
Terrific. Food is always delicious. Chef and owner came to talk with us at the table.
The food was great! We had a pork chicharrones appetizer and split an amazing burger and steak frittes. Everything was delicious!
We had a lovely dinner. Everyone enjoyed their meal and each other's.
The wines were of high quality and complemented the meals. Desert was outstanding and our server brewed fresh decaf for us. Outstanding dining experience at a reasonable cost. This is my third time eating at Masona. Each experience was exceptional dinning.
We don't often go out to dinner but always enjoy a trip to Masona. 5 stars !!
Lovely meal.
I think this was an off night for them. We have been there before and been very satisfied. The food was not well prepared the fries were not cooked through, and there was a thick brown gravy smothering the scallops.
I think there was a trainee cooking the meal.
this was a weeknight. We will try again on a weekend.
Great food always!. Relaxed and inviting on a cold rainy night.
One of our favorite local restaurants with great Peruvian (and other) dishes.
A good menu from which everyone can find an appealing dish. The dishes are well prepared and presented. Large portions and very satisfying. An excellent, moderately priced wine list. The owner was our server....attentive and lots of fun. This restaurant has been in business for 11 years and continues to be a great value.
They seemed short staffed, and we waited a while for our food. But it was well worth waiting for! The paella was indescribably delicious!
Tres leches dessert also was amazing. Hadn't been there in a while. I remembered the ambiance a little nicer than it actually is. In any case, the food was top notch!
This is my third or fourth time dining at Masona Grill this summer and the experience was again delightful. The consistency of good food, good service, and atmosphere conducive to conversation makes this restaurant a personal local favorite. Members in our party had Fish and Chips, seared Scallops, the Eggplant, and Mussels (as their entree) after beet and Caesar salads. All were very good.
