Mason Street Grill Ratings and Reviews
We went before attending a play, everything was great till the end. We couldn’t get our server to bring us the check so we could pay up & make it to the play. The restaurant filled up after we were served & she apparently got busy. I’d ordered coffee with cream, by the time she brought the cream, I was almost finished with the coffee.
We visited Milwaukee this past weekend for a belated Valentine's holiday getaway and decided to dine at Mason Street Grille at the Pfister hotel. We have dined there once previously with a larger group and enjoyed the experience so thought we'd give it another go. We were looking forward to a cocktail at Blu, and also the jazz trio in the restaurant bar. Unfortunately, our restaurant experience this time around was a bit underwhelming. We arrived a bit early and were told as we expected, that we could find a seat in the lounge and that our table would be ready closer to the 7pm reservation. Fine by us as we were ready for a glass of wine and found a seat near the 3 pc. jazz trio as we'd hoped we would. However at 7:10, with no word from the hostess, my husband checked in at the stand. He was told that, 'oops, we tried to find you but must have missed you. We will have a table in just a minute.' Interesting as we were seated in clear view of the hostess stand and we never saw anyone walking through to check on us....we believe they forgot. A moment later we were told our 'table' was ready. We were escorted to a tiny table for two which was wedged in next to a very large, boisterous party of 8. If we had walked in off the street hoping to luck into a table, this might have been acceptable. However, with reservations made 30 days prior with a request for a quiet 'date night' seating, we were not happy. With no apologies after we expressed our dissatisfaction, the server moved us to the only other table available which was just off of the hallway to the banquet rooms and restrooms. This was slightly better due to being more comfortable but disappointing. I highly doubt we will be making reservations with Mason St. in the near future. We've been to establishments with lesser ratings that have had far better customer service and attention to detail.
Our waiter was AMAZING! His knowledge of the menu was unbelievable! We enjoyed ourselves! I got the sea bass... it was slightly undercooked. I didn’t say anything. I ate 80% of it. But for 48 dollars was a little disappointed. My boyfriends steak was absolutely wonderful! There was a head boss/manager floating around in the background... approx 50 years old in a suit. He wasn’t exceptionally friendly... he did address customer’s request to recook their food next to us. But overall he didn’t present himself with a warm presence. First time at restaurant and hotel. Would go back for sure!
We were very disappointed in our experience. We had multiple food issues that needed to be attended to and I don’t believe we have had to send anything back to the kitchen for years and we had 3. We will not likely return which is unfortunate as it used to be a favorite.
Upon arriving we were seated immediately and offered to have our coats checked. Service here is friendly and precise. We were seated at a cozy corner table next to the wine closet which enticed us to sample a bottle of Malbec. From the very friendly service of our waitress to the impeccable layout of our appetizers and meal, we love this dining spot in the heart of Milwaukee. We will definitely be back again.
Still haven't found a meal I absolutely enjoy. Lunch service took longer than usual and my clients were getting a bit agitated as they were on a tight schedule. No acknowledgement of that by the server. Location is why I keep going back, but maybe not for long.
I really like this restaurant. My daughter and I ate here in late Dec and my husband and I ate here on Sat night. Both times the food was excellent. But both times our servers seemed distracted and stressed. It is a busy place and I know people can have an off day but to me this may point to a larger issue about the work culture at this restaurant. The service was adequate but I just felt like they were both angry. Not at us but felt like something else was going on. I want to bring my son soon and sit at the counter. He loves to cook and I know he would enjoy it. It’s not cheap so I just wish the whole experience had been a little more pleasant.
Though the food was very good, it took a little long for the courses to arrive. We were enjoying the company of our guests, so we were able to enjoy the delay in receiving the different courses but it was still noticeably long. The Fried Surf Clams are a must, the Beef Carpaccio makes a good starter or salad. The Sea Scallops were cooked perfectly, and the Steak & Fries is by far the value on the menu and is always consistently cooked to order. I will dine again, but would likely avoid peak time.
Our overall experience at Mason Street was outstanding! From the time we arrived till the time we left it was a great time! The service was second to none and our server (Blake) was the most courteous and professional and he even brought out a piece of cake as we were celebrating my wife's birthday! The food was delicious and cooked to perfection! Thank you Mason Street Grill for making our evening a memorable one.
My wife and I celebrated 28 years at the Mason Street Grill prior to seeing 2Cellos. We had a wonderful dinner with fantastic service and great cocktails. My wife had veal oscar that was very tender and the asparagus was done perfectly and real king crab. I had a 14 oz filet with shrimp. the steak was seasoned perfectly and cooked exactly how I ordered. It was a little pricey, but it's been 10 years wince we had a date night away! I highly recommend for business or special occasion!
My husband and I were at the restaurant/bar last Saturday evening. Our main reason for going was to hear the live jazz. That did not disappoint. We sat at the bar and ordered some appetizers. We decided that we were still a bit hungry so my husband ordered the half rack of ribs, and I had the ricotta ravioli. My serving was VERY SMALL- I think it was 4 small ravioli - My Italian family makes hundreds of ravioli from scratch for our Christmas dinner every year. I could not believe the portion size. I would have been willing to pay a bit more for a larger serving!!!!
My friend and I chose to celebrate our birthday this year at Mason Street Grill. We were in for a real treat. Our server, Lailes (forgive the spelling) was impressive as he shared our dinner options. He was courteous and attentive the entire evening. I started with the Chopped Salad which was superb. The Greens were fresh and the dressing was quite flavorful. I was just about to eat the last morsel when the Main Course arrived. I chose the Filet Mignon which was cooked perfectly for me along with a Marvelois Mashed Potatoes as my side. My friend was quite pleased with her Steak and Fries entree. She had ordered hers medium and there were no complaints at all. She also requested a side of Stone Ground Cheesy Grits. It was very good. We were surprised when our server arrived with Birthday Treats in hand for both of us. I was delighted with a wonderful piece of Carrot Cake. It was an evening neither one of us will soon forget. The one observation I’d like to share with future diners is that sides cost individually but they are more than enough to share.
We were celebrating a special occasion on this night. Arrived and greeted by hostess, promptly went to our favorite booth and saw our favorite server - Big John! He is amazing and has the best personality. We chatted and caught up since the last time we saw each other a month ago. Has wonderfully prepared meals - steaks for everyone - best in town. Steve stopped by and checked on us. Then, John took it upon himself to bring 3 glasses of champagne and a dessert with “congratulations” enscribed. This made my daughter’s night!!! John completely understands customer satisfaction. Another great experience thanks to John!!!
Food was great however the special that our server mentioned turned out to be unavailable. One member of our party ordered it and once the food came out the server said they were out. So another order had to be made which took an additional 12-15 minutes so we were all done with our dinners before one person got there’s.
Also, we had ordered a bottle of wine listed which was a 2013 Cab. The server came back with a 2014 and said “oops”. I’ll get the correct year. As it turns out they didn’t have the 2013 we were looking for. Once again, we chose another 2013 Cab and once again they were our. Unfortunate for us but otherwise food was fine. Just that attention to detail was lacking on our servers part.
I've been here many times over the years and it's changed a great deal. Somewhere around 5 years ago they started a reformed menu with much higher prices and less value. I remember they even charged $5 for garlic butter (something that was standard on steak here). The quality of the food dropped and prices shot up so I stopped coming. I decided to give them another chance last weekend and I'm glad I did. Prices are about where they should be and the quality is excellent. While I wasn't a fan of the sweetness the boneless porterhouse steak, I believe the 10oz steak is one of the most flavorful in the city. They were cooked to perfection, exactly what we ordered. The sides you can pick from are a good value if you get more than one, and are big enough to share with the table. The place isn't huge for general dinning so expect higher than average noise. The desert menu is very underwhelming, oddly missing any standard upscale classics you might expect. All and all great food, good prices and the perfect place to go to have a wonderful experience.
