we were looking for a place to have a nice, relaxing, calm dinner on a Sunday night.
We walked in to the restaurant to Trivia Night. It was SO LOUD. Not just in the bar, but in the dining room. The DJ had a speaker pointed right at the 3 tables that were dining. The music was not in keeping with dining ambiance. The DJ was screaming out the questions and answers. We asked to have the volume turned down, but were told, perfunctorily, that it was trivia night and nothing could be done. We had to leave. It is no wonder there were only 3 tables in the entire place.
Not sure how often they do trivia, but we won't risk it and go back.
Good date night out. We went last minute and were still able to get a reservation. Food was good as always. Nice wine selection. Little noisy but it was Saturday night. Service was a bit spotty. Gal seemed new. But all and all a good experience. Get the the tuna tar tar. Yummy. 👍🏻
I have visited this restaurant twice, on a Friday and a Saturday night. Both times there was plenty of seating and a reservation was unnecessary. The ambiance is great, but the food is just underwhelming. Nothing has been delicious - a few things have been ok and a few things were bad. Better food available other places nearby. Also - wear shoes with good grip. Both times the floors felt slippery, almost like they were greasy?
The empanadas were good, but greasy. I a so tired of hamburgers being served on brioche as mine was. Brioche doesn't hold up well for a hot sandwich. The burger was medium not medium rare as ordered. Great fries however. My husband had the Peruvian chicken and is was surprisingly bland. VERY noisy and that will probably keep us away. There is lots of talk and there was no need to have a guitarist with a bad voice playing as well.
The server took 20 minutes before taking drink order. Ordered second appetizer with the rest of the meal order and waited 30 minutes before 3 entree’s and 1 appetizer showed up at once. No one checked to make sure we were okay in between. No water bottle at at the table until specifically requested even though all the other tables had them.
Service was slow, food was cold and not good. I may go there for a drink but no food.
I enjoyed myself. It was quaint, the food and drink was good, and our server was excellent! Will definitely be back
Great food I wanted to try everything on their menu. Can’t wait to go back.
Hidden spot, if you live in Akexandria probably past by it in Old Town, and never noticed, highly recommend dropping in for a drink and some food.
Terrific service, good food.
The food was actually pretty good but the restaurant was almost empty and the service was absolutely terrible, had to call for the waitress each and every time. She was pleasant enough but just not attentive by any means.
The Shrimp and Grits was one of the worst I’ve had in quite some time. The waitress did not describe it well and didn’t even know how it was prepared. The waitress took our order and we didn’t see her until she came over to ask if we were still working on our meals. This was very odd because we’d already stack the plates to the edge of the table to be taken away because it had been so long! The only time she was engaged with us was when she was giving us the check.
We’ve been here many times, but this time was extremely disappointing.
This was my second time at Mason Social. The first time was more enjoyable. The food is always great but the service was lackluster. The bartender, the host, and the server were all not very friendly.
Brunch was outstanding. Creative entrees and perfectly done
Service was slow, getting drinks from the bar even slower. Everyone was nice but very inattentive.
Food was incredibly flavorful and RICH! Definitely recommend the fried chicken, the brussel sprouts, deviled eggs... and they make a great Old Fashioned!!!
Good menu, good food, nice atmosphere. Fun to watch silent old movies.
Very surprised by the quality of the food as well as the service. Enjoyed the restaurant week menu. All of the selections were a hit. Would highly recommend the rockfish.
Server was great, too. I wish I got his name; so attentive and genuinely kind.
This is a meighborhood gem that I should take the opportunity to frequent more.
Excellent food and even better service!
Very good brunch selection. Good portion size. Great atmosphere. It’s street parking so can be tricky. Good cocktails too.
Server was pleasant. Prices were high for essentially eating in a bar. Several dishes were not available, including the one I went specifically to try. Food quality very poor. I got sick from the fish. Cocktails were fun. Go for the drinks. Skip the meal.
Food was wonderful. Generous portions and very tasty. Mimosas were great...very generous pours. Server overhead that it was my birthday and comped a mimosa. Highly recommend!
Great food and service. The food service was fast and efficient. Loved the atmosphere and would come back again.
We went for New Year’s Eve dinner and the food was amazing, great drinks and the staff was happy to serve. Very wonderful evening!
I have been to Mason Social several times due to it’s location. The service and food quality is very inconsistent. Recently, I went and tried the Peruvian chicken and it was excellent. I decided to make a reservation for New Year’s Eve, which was also a friends birthday.
Several things went wrong with our meal. Drinks ordered when we first sat didn’t make it out to the table until after half of our meals were served. Half of the meals were served at one time and then a few minutes later an additional meal came out. The server failed to notice that the birthday boy did not yet have his meal. We had to remind him to check on it.
I ordered the Peruvian chicken. It came out looking like it had been through a battle. The skin was missing and bones were protruding from the wing. I tasted it and found that it was extremely hot and clearly reheated. I sent it back which is something I can’t recall doing before.
We ordered desserts and had notified the restaurant at booking it was a birthday. We also reminded them while seated. It was a 50th birthday so a candle or even a happy birthday when the desserts were brought would have been nice. The plates were unceremoniously dropped on the table without a word.
The restaurant did comp the desserts but overall this latest visit coupled with previous experience means this restaurant is now crossed off my list of places to go.
Food was great!
We had a wonderful brunch! We will definitely return. Thank you for the great meal and service.
Nice staff food was good! Will go back and recommend to family and friends!
Unfortunately, we didn’t get to enjoy dinner at Mason Social the evening of our reservation because they closed for “maintenance”! I did appreciate the manager calling me earlier in the day so my group (9 of us total) didn’t show up to find the restaurant closed! Thankfully, another restaurant was able to accommodate us all. However, it was a disappointment as I was in town for just a short time and was looking forward to dining there (one of my favorites in Old Town). Next time!
First time at Mason Social. We live close and we thought the menu had some great offerings. We had four adults and two children. Our adult companions do not eat spicy food at all and felt that the burgers were the best non-spicy option. They said that the burgers were good. My husband ordered the meatloaf with the habanero ketchup on the side. His plate was stuffed full with meatloaf, brussel sprouts, crispy onions and street corn. The meatloaf was good, a little heavy on the garlic and would be elevated if it had been seared for a minute. The brussel sprouts were fine but greasy. The street corn was good but kind of random with everything else. I ordered the steak pasta to appease one of the children. The steak was cooked very unevenly. I ordered it without spice and medium well (again, child). Many pieces of the steak were medium at best, some were well. The pasta was boxed penne, sauce was so thin it didn’t really coat the pasta. The veggies were fine. The value of the pasta dish as compared to the meatloaf was very skewed. The water glasses are like tall shot glasses. One of our companions attempted to order three common drinks but the clear was unable to make any. Not sure that we would return.
Delicious comfort food. The cocktails also great
Enjoyable neighborhood restaurant. Very good food. Pleasant atmosphere. Friendly bar counter.
Great atmosphere and food / drinks and convenient located
The service was great, atmosphere was clean and stylish but the food was extremely bland and underwhelming:/
Everything was ok. Maybe this Sunday night was slow cuz of football and Nats game. I would come back but I’m not in any rush.
We had a really nice time at mason social last night. The food and service were very good. The only qualm was that there was a class reunion going on in their dining section and at one point of the night it got VERY loud. To the point my husband and I couldn’t hear each other. I don’t think that’s very common so I will def return to try more of the menu. Overall, despite the noise, we really enjoyed ourselves and the server even recognized my birthday (no freebies offered FYI).
Visited for my birthday brunch! The only critique is that they didn’t have real/pure maple syrup. It’s a simple thing that makes or breaks a quality brunch.
This was the second time I had brunch at Mason Social with the first experience being good enough that I brought my family back. This visit wasn't half as good. By noon on Sunday (they open at 11...), they were out of my drink from the bar, out of one of the French Toasts and out of the Smoked Salmon Benedict. Service was only ok. Food came out fast but was only ok. Not going to rush back.
This was a good restaurant with delicious food and the waitress was very nice to my three year old, but it's definitely for the drinking/out for a night crowd (no other kids were in that restaurant).
Appears to be a place on the way down. One server trying her best. One cook? Dirty windows and doors. Too much to be done, too few employees to do it. Two stars at best.
