Mason Jar Ratings and Reviews
We placed a reservation which was confirmed twice by email. When we showed up, on time and on the correct date, the restaurant was closed. There was no notice of the closure provided to us by the restaurant or by opentable. There was no follow-up message from either opentable or the restaurant regarding the closure. A very disappointing experience. Opentable requires me to rate things like food and atmosphere in order to post this. Since we have no idea what the food and atmosphere were like we've rated them neutrally.
We stumbled across the Bkln location (didn't eat there) but decided to give the Manhattan version a try. it wasn't horrible, it just wasn't special. First off, it was loud. Second the atmosphere was a little hmmm -- how to describe -- a bit like a college campus hangout -- wooden tables in booths, large flat-screen TVs and, did I say loud? as for the food, we ordered deviled eggs and fried pickles as starters. the deviled eggs were pretty good. the fried pickles -- not so much. they were chips not spears and very (too) salty. As for entrees, I had the ribs -- good, not great. one friend had the brisket -- a bit fatty, but good flavor. another had the chicken and waffles -- I didn't try, but it didn't look particularly appetizing. Our server was great -- attentive without being fawning. All in all -- I wouldn't go back. there are too many good restaurants in ny to go back to one that's 'meh'. but, again, it wasn't horrible.
I made reservations 5 days in advance but when we arrived we were only offered a little table with 2 stools right in front of the bar with a patron sitting next to us that seemed intoxicated and had his foot on one of our "chairs". We asked about all the empty tables and were told they were all ready reserved, well so was ours. We declined and decided not to stay. The hostess made a mild effort to keep us and offered us tall table near the bar which was certainly not any better. We honestly didn't feel welcomed at all.
Went to mason jar for Gamecock game as we do every November. Arrived early knowing how busy but also booked through open table. Were told that since we booked with open table we were placed upstairs at worst table. No Gamecock fans! My husband could hardly make it up the steps due to knee problem. Asked to be able to go down stairs but were told that we couldn't move until after halftime even there were open tables. Said they were reserved even when they staid open the entire time. Will this happen every time we use open table?
Great BBQ - really fantastic experience at the Mason Jar. Service was one of the best I've had in the city - attentive, friendly and flexible. Pork shoulder was amazing, cornbread to die for! My daughter had the chicken and waffles and couldn't decide which was better - the chicken or the waffle 😊
Highly recommend ...will be back!
The Mason Jar New York, awesome! Make this place your “go to” for all occasions. For fans of delicious food, drinks & friendly atmosphere, this is the place! For lunch, the Beef Brisket from the smoker with the cornbread w/ honey butter…what??? Served to perfection! I always get their fabulous beverage called, 'Mason Jar Old Fashioned' (w/ knob creek bourbon) yummy. I didn’t think that could be topped…but out came the Lemon Blueberry Crumb Cheesecake…I can’t even!
The Mason Jar is beautiful, sexy and has modern setting…this place screams an amazing lunch in NYC! My FAVORITE restaurant in NY! Their lunch is always consistent and the attentive servers and bartenders make you feel right at home!
If you don’t know anyone in NY…go to the Mason Jar, you’ll feel like you have family there when you leave.
My frequent NY visits, you’ll continue to find me at the The Mason Jar…see you there!
We had our friends in the city for a visit and needless to say their arrival at La Guardia with lost luggage was not pleasant ... the magic of the Mason Jar’s BBQ made it all better!!
Let’s just say for starters the lip-smacking jumbo cajun wings that they smoke at the restaurant were awesome, I couldn’t stop dunking them in their house blue cheese sauce. We followed with a the Mason Jar Sampler Platter that was a generous portion of all of their smoked meats with a choice of three sides, we decided on their creamy coleslaw, mac & cheese and the three bean brisket chili that was topped with cheddar cheese and fresh sliced jalapenos. It was more than enough food for 4 people and a steal at $98! We washed it all down with plenty of Victory Prima Pils.
Sauces on the table which our server described with great passion where ... a classic KC style bbq that was sweet, spicy and tangy, that was my favorite, also a spicy house vinegar sauce with a serious zing and plenty of flavor, not to forget the Carolina Mustard sauce that was terrific on the sausage.
The brisket was simply amazing, tender with a complex smoky flavor, I mean it was the best damn brisket that I have had in this city and I have lived in the Gramercy Park neighborhood for well over 25 years.
It was our first visit and we are looking forward to going back, as a matter of fact I think I want to do my wife’s surprise birthday party there. They have a huge private mezzanine level that caught my eye for the perfect party!! Thanks again for the service and a great dining experience, see you soon.
The Mason Jar was a delightful find. DELICIOUS BBQ, side dishes and drinks. The portions were huge, so come hungry! Food presentation was perfect, and the staff were welcoming, knowledgeable and attentive. The atmosphere was relaxed and fun, but not overwhelmingly noisy. Conversation was easy at our table. The facility was very clean - restrooms too. We've already recommended to our friends, and will definitely be back!
Seated right away, which I always appreciate. It was really noisy inside which would be my biggest complaint.
The food was great though, my husband and I had the hanger steaks with mashed potatoes and a salad. Everything came in a reasonable amount of time also. We were seated in the corner so I think our server tended to forget about us but the only thing we were needing was water at one point. Overall, very nice place and great food.
