We placed a reservation which was confirmed twice by email. When we showed up, on time and on the correct date, the restaurant was closed. There was no notice of the closure provided to us by the restaurant or by opentable. There was no follow-up message from either opentable or the restaurant regarding the closure. A very disappointing experience. Opentable requires me to rate things like food and atmosphere in order to post this. Since we have no idea what the food and atmosphere were like we've rated them neutrally.
Great for watch parties! They definitely tailor to the March Madness crowd.
Went there for Sunday brunch. The service was ultra-friendly and the food very tasty. Excellent selection of beers. Brunch menu a bit limited, though.
Good food and service
We stumbled across the Bkln location (didn't eat there) but decided to give the Manhattan version a try. it wasn't horrible, it just wasn't special. First off, it was loud. Second the atmosphere was a little hmmm -- how to describe -- a bit like a college campus hangout -- wooden tables in booths, large flat-screen TVs and, did I say loud? as for the food, we ordered deviled eggs and fried pickles as starters. the deviled eggs were pretty good. the fried pickles -- not so much. they were chips not spears and very (too) salty. As for entrees, I had the ribs -- good, not great. one friend had the brisket -- a bit fatty, but good flavor. another had the chicken and waffles -- I didn't try, but it didn't look particularly appetizing. Our server was great -- attentive without being fawning. All in all -- I wouldn't go back. there are too many good restaurants in ny to go back to one that's 'meh'. but, again, it wasn't horrible.
The lemonade was amazing and so was the mac and cheese. I'll definitely be back.
Terrible service. Waitress didn't bring our drinks for 25 mins. After my boyfriend went to the kitchen to inform them. Loud, no silver wear on the table or sauce (we grabbed our own from another table). Almost walked out
Fun place. Excellent vibe/food/service. My first time, I will definitely go back.
Good sports bar. Good food. The owner stopped by our table a few times
Friendly, great place to catch up with friends and enjoy craft bourbons.
Very gracious and accommodating. Good food to eat in and we took some home for others. All good reviews by folks from the south and from Kansas City - so a lovely time and good food for all! Will surely go again!
The ran out of ribs and brisket at 8 pm on a Saturday night. They seemed short staffed. The waiter disappeared for a long time after we asked for things like utensils.
Amazing food, great atmosphere and exceptional service even though it was very busy! Will definitely return!
I made reservations 5 days in advance but when we arrived we were only offered a little table with 2 stools right in front of the bar with a patron sitting next to us that seemed intoxicated and had his foot on one of our "chairs". We asked about all the empty tables and were told they were all ready reserved, well so was ours. We declined and decided not to stay. The hostess made a mild effort to keep us and offered us tall table near the bar which was certainly not any better. We honestly didn't feel welcomed at all.
Went to mason jar for Gamecock game as we do every November. Arrived early knowing how busy but also booked through open table. Were told that since we booked with open table we were placed upstairs at worst table. No Gamecock fans! My husband could hardly make it up the steps due to knee problem. Asked to be able to go down stairs but were told that we couldn't move until after halftime even there were open tables. Said they were reserved even when they staid open the entire time. Will this happen every time we use open table?
Brought my friend from England here to have authentic bbq. The staff was really nice and helpful. The place was loud and fun and food was good. She loved every minute of it.
Great BBQ - really fantastic experience at the Mason Jar. Service was one of the best I've had in the city - attentive, friendly and flexible. Pork shoulder was amazing, cornbread to die for! My daughter had the chicken and waffles and couldn't decide which was better - the chicken or the waffle 😊
Highly recommend ...will be back!
This was a good solid BBQ place. Meats were nicely done and the service was right there. Good beer selection, too.
very very very loud. Very slow and unattentive service. Slow to take drink orders, not enough staff
The Mason Jar New York, awesome! Make this place your “go to” for all occasions. For fans of delicious food, drinks & friendly atmosphere, this is the place! For lunch, the Beef Brisket from the smoker with the cornbread w/ honey butter…what??? Served to perfection! I always get their fabulous beverage called, 'Mason Jar Old Fashioned' (w/ knob creek bourbon) yummy. I didn’t think that could be topped…but out came the Lemon Blueberry Crumb Cheesecake…I can’t even!
The Mason Jar is beautiful, sexy and has modern setting…this place screams an amazing lunch in NYC! My FAVORITE restaurant in NY! Their lunch is always consistent and the attentive servers and bartenders make you feel right at home!
If you don’t know anyone in NY…go to the Mason Jar, you’ll feel like you have family there when you leave.
My frequent NY visits, you’ll continue to find me at the The Mason Jar…see you there!
Food was excellent and the service was very good. Definitely would recommend it and will be going back.
We had our friends in the city for a visit and needless to say their arrival at La Guardia with lost luggage was not pleasant ... the magic of the Mason Jar’s BBQ made it all better!!
Let’s just say for starters the lip-smacking jumbo cajun wings that they smoke at the restaurant were awesome, I couldn’t stop dunking them in their house blue cheese sauce. We followed with a the Mason Jar Sampler Platter that was a generous portion of all of their smoked meats with a choice of three sides, we decided on their creamy coleslaw, mac & cheese and the three bean brisket chili that was topped with cheddar cheese and fresh sliced jalapenos. It was more than enough food for 4 people and a steal at $98! We washed it all down with plenty of Victory Prima Pils.
Sauces on the table which our server described with great passion where ... a classic KC style bbq that was sweet, spicy and tangy, that was my favorite, also a spicy house vinegar sauce with a serious zing and plenty of flavor, not to forget the Carolina Mustard sauce that was terrific on the sausage.
The brisket was simply amazing, tender with a complex smoky flavor, I mean it was the best damn brisket that I have had in this city and I have lived in the Gramercy Park neighborhood for well over 25 years.
It was our first visit and we are looking forward to going back, as a matter of fact I think I want to do my wife’s surprise birthday party there. They have a huge private mezzanine level that caught my eye for the perfect party!! Thanks again for the service and a great dining experience, see you soon.
Food is absolutely awesome!! Service was a bit lacking but food more than made up for it.
Great experience overall. The food was well prepared and full of flavor. We are always happy to find good barbecue outside of Chicago and the Mason Jar was on point.
I happened to have given this a bad review of another site so there's no need to rehash it here. It was not good. if you like BBQ this is not the place for you. period. the end.
Great pulled pork sandwich, and it said to pick a side so I chose Mac and Cheese, expecting a little container of the stuff. Wow. The Mac and Cheese is in its own casserole and looks like a main course serving -- really creamy and tasty too!
It was ok. Service wasn't very good. Had to keep calling for her. They don't have burgers which is very odd. But the food was good. But a little expensive.
The Mason Jar was a delightful find. DELICIOUS BBQ, side dishes and drinks. The portions were huge, so come hungry! Food presentation was perfect, and the staff were welcoming, knowledgeable and attentive. The atmosphere was relaxed and fun, but not overwhelmingly noisy. Conversation was easy at our table. The facility was very clean - restrooms too. We've already recommended to our friends, and will definitely be back!
Was there for lunch today at 1:00, I had the ribs and pulled pork with corn bread and jambalaya. Very tasty!!!
Great menu - especially the sausage! Superb service too.
Good food, service and portions. Relatively simple BBQ. Only major disappointment, I wish they actually used "mason jars" for their cocktails
Had lunch here with a couple of the admins from work and everyone was happy with their food.
Decent BBQ option for the area.
Seated right away, which I always appreciate. It was really noisy inside which would be my biggest complaint.
The food was great though, my husband and I had the hanger steaks with mashed potatoes and a salad. Everything came in a reasonable amount of time also. We were seated in the corner so I think our server tended to forget about us but the only thing we were needing was water at one point. Overall, very nice place and great food.
It was a very experience! Our only problem was that they had no record of our reservation when we arrived! Fortunately, they were able to get a table together for us pretty quickly!
it's a fun place but really loud. the food is great and given that it's a sports bar we were shocked at how great the service was.
The food is very, very good, but the place is unbearably loud and the service is spotty. But the BBQ is worth it.
Excellent brisket! It melted in my mouth.
Best of 3 area BBQ restaurants we tried on our recent trip. Perfectly done ribs that looked black on outside, but no burnt taste. Delicious creamy coleslaw side for $5 that was enough to share. No substitutions for fries that come with ribs.
The meat seemed to have a metallic taste.
