I am delighted to write a review for Masala Art. Indian food has always been a bit of a challenge for me as the names of the dishes are difficult for me to remember. I recently when to the Tenley restaurant for lunch. Dilli recognized me from a previous visit and greeted me warmly. He recommended the lunch buffet and personally guided me through the selections, describing each dish in detail along with the traditional condiment combinations and the traditional grains/bread to accompany each dish. He was incredibly attentive, engaging, and I could not have felt more indulged. The other waitstaff were also very friendly and my iced tea never was unfilled and my dishes were cleared away very promptly (with an invitation to re-visit the buffet). An additional pleasure was the fruit salad as one of the dessert offerings.

To me, good service and overcome challenged cooking, but good food rarely can compensate for bad service. I enjoyed both GREAT service and GREAT food. Dilli and the other servers were GREAT.

THANKS, dss

We used to enjoy the food quite a bit at Masala Art but in recent months, the quality and taste have been rather inconsistent. Their food does not seem fresh. They are innovative in their menu and offer some wonderful items, especially from the tandoor but it can be a hit or miss!

We went to Masala Art based on recommendation from a few of our friends. I am sorry to say that we were extremely disappointed by the service and taste of the food. First the service, it was extremely slow and sporadic. The waiter did not attend to us until after 10 minutes of being seated. The hostess was not friendly at all and did not greet us as we came in. Once we ordered the food, it took quite a long time until it came to our table. The quantity and quality of dishes left us very disappointed. All the dishes pretty much tasted the same and were not spicy at all. We ordered Achari chicken tikka and Karahi chicken, which almost tasted the same as if same spices were used to prepare both the dishes. Achari chicken had no Achari spices. Overall, we did not have a good experience at Masala Art and would not recommend it, unless you want to waste your money.

As usual the food was wonderful. It was a Sunday and they had their brunch offering, which looked extensive. We, though, ordered off the menu; even have had their week day buffet. We were introducing a couple to Indian food and wanted specific items we thought they would enjoy, as it was a cuisine they were not familiar with. All items ordered were cooked to perfection and served right from the stove/oven. Even with the crowd for brunch and their front room being taken over by a birthday party service was very good. This was a noticeable feat as the customer count was high. We had a reservation made for Noon at it was ready when we arrived and we were seated promptly.

Our group shared two lamb dishes and a Chicken Saag as well as a bread basket of naan. It was all very tasty with the Chicken Saag being the standout. I appreciate the breadth of gluten free options. The service was a little uneven but pleasant.

Went to Marsala Art for work get together post-holidays! Had a great lunch, great service. Wide variety of dishes available in the lunch buffet. And lunch buffet made it easy to go for group lunch and get back to work in lunch time period.

Definitely would go back and recommend it for others

We have been to Masala Art many times and have enjoyed it, but this time we were disappointed in the food. The menu has been updated and changed, but now has so many different sections that it was confusing to order. Also, we tried two promising sounding appetizers, a tuna and a "beet root," but they turned out to be almost identical deep fried fritters with the ingredients almost completely overwhelmed by the batter and deep frying.
Our vegetable dish was mostly sauce, though the bread we ordered was excellent.
Our favorite dish, Saag Paneer, seemed to be gone from the menu.
Also, the big sscreen TV in the bar, which faced our table, was playing for no one and was very distracting. It really detracts from the elegance f the place.
We will try again, and maybe ask to be seated away from the bar.

The buffet was varied and you can enjoy a hearty and delicious meal for a reasonable price. However besides being pointed to a table, the staff never asked us about beverages, offered menus or instructed us how the buffet worked. Good thing we wanted the buffet and stopped waiting. And we had a reservation.

Have eaten here with my Indian friends and had great food and great service. Was there with my family on a Saturday night and unfortunately the food was just not up to par and while the waitstaff was pleasant it took too long to seat us and too long to get the food.

Unfortunate.

I'm not an Indian food expert, but we were very happy at Masala Art. Everything seemed well prepared with an attention to detail.

My only complaint, and I know this may be just me, but it was quite loud. Of course this is because it was jammed packed with happy customers, but still, I had trouble hearing the people at my table.

They will definitely be on our dinner rotation now that we have found them.

Food was spicy and ingredients were top notch.
The place needs a serious facelift though - from top to bottom (!). Very kid friendly and prompt service but several items were not as ordered.
Also, our table was not cleared from the last table - lots of crumbs on the seat and floor.

Will go back since its so close to home.

We celebrated a family birthday dinner at Masala Art this past weekend and we had a wonderful time. They were easily able to accommodate our large group. The waiter was attentive, engaging and able to make recommendations appropriate for a wide variety of tastes. The food was delicious, from the vegetarian dishes to chicken, lamb, seafood and goat. I would definitely return there for a special occasion or even just a dinner for two.

I was among a party of six for a dinner on Saturday night. We had reservations for 8:30pm. The restaurant was not busy at all. Best guess, it is summertime and it was 8:30pm. We all had a wonderful time, food good as well as the drinks. Our service was great as well. Only wish we were not rushed out for them to close. They went as far as turing the lights WAY up instead of just saying something. Will still go back....but most likely NOT at 8:30pm.

Interesting, tasty and unusually varied Indian food. However, the noise level is so high that it's hard to have a conversation. (Maybe ceiling tiles or something else could address this?) Also, having eaten there a few times I now realize that many (or maybe all) of the dishes are extremely--it would be great to note the level of spiciness in the menu and allow diners to request a lower level.

Hands down, the best Indian cuisine in the area. They have expanded their menu with some new and tasty items. The service can be slow, as it was for us. We had to ask twice for mango chutney. But if you're not in a hurry, you'll greatly enjoy your curry--and everything else!

I go to Masala Art for reliably good Indian dishes. The menu includes a page or two of fusion dishes (Indian/Chinese, for example) which I haven't sampled much.

The restaurant extends from the front entrance on Great Plain Avenue to a rear entrance from a municipal parking lot (where there's usually plenty of parking by evening). There's a dining room at each end. I find the ambiance of the rear dining room a little like an outpost and the service can be less attentive there.

Masala Art can get very busy and when it's busy, the noise level -- especially in the front dining room I prefer -- can be a bit "energetic" (using the euphemism from the ratings chart) for me.

Food was good but a bit pricey for Indian. Service was very rushed. They took food and drinks away before we were finished, and didn't ask if we wanted to take anything home. We felt very rushed--like they were trying to turn over the table. Otherwise the food was very good and the atmosphere was pleasant.

While I have used OpenTable for several years, I've never written a review, but I have been to Masala Art 3 times over the past month and all friends I've dined with have found the food to be exceptional. I am a strict vegetarian and I continue to be amazed by the offerings. Everyone ( veg and meat-eaters alike) loved the Gobhi Gulistan, a whole cauliflower with a delectable mixture of spices oozing thru the little buds. The Baigan Bhartha, smoked eggplant, was also a surprising delight. Also ate there before changing my eating habits. Best dish: Lamb chops

Given a a table in a large back dining area, no one else there, away from the main dining area, I felt as if we were being banished, which is why only one star for ambience.
Service and food was nothing special.
No Happy Birthday wishes from anyone on the staff despite sending a note with my reservation. All in all wish I had picked somewhere else for my daughters celebration.

Beautiful place inside. Nice tables and not too crowded together. Excellent cocktails and we had the house Shiraz and Chardonnay - also very good. I had mentioned it was my son's birthday and every staff person that walked by our table wished him happy birthday. We had never eaten Indian food before and everything was delicious. We had Calamari and Chicken Wings for appetizers. The bread they brought for the table was amazing - some plain and some garlic flavored. My wife and daughter had Chicken Tikki Masala, the birthday boy had a fish dish and I had grilled lamb chops. Rice pudding for dessert and an individual birthday cake was complimentary. Everyone was so friendly -- awesome introduction to Indian cuisine.

Alas, this restaurant has gone way downhill. We were a fairly large party, and they decided to seat us next to the very noisy bar - a decision that ensured that there was sufficient noise such that none of us could hear each other. Had they used that space fo tables of two, that would have been fine, but to combine tables in such as way so as to ensure that the group could not talk to each other started the evening out on a very bad note. The situation got worse when the food was served. It is not what it used to be - and we ended up sending some of it back as it was over-cooked. The service, which used to be great, was mediocre at best. There are far better Indian places in the western Boston suburbs - don't go to this one.

We had a delicious dinner; every dish was wonderful. I really appreciated the gluten-free designations throughout the menu, rather than having a separate menu, and there was a great variety of GF items. Service was very attentive and food arrived at nice intervals. For some reason, the lights were on very bright, which was a little disconcerting at an evening meal.

Very good Indian and Indian-Chinese food. Would recommend it more highly except for two things. First, the waitstaff seemed in a hurry to get us out the door, even though the restaurant was never full. Second, we tried to order tea and dessert but they told us the "tea machine" was broken. I'm not sure what a tea machine is, but if a restaurant can't boil water, it's in serious trouble. We'd actually eat there again, but wish the service was as good as the food.
