Masa 14 Ratings and Reviews
We tried quite a few plates. Our top faves were the calamari, tuna flatbread, dry rub brisket. Salmon over rice, Brussels sprouts were good, as were the fried okra. yucca fries ok ... the dip was good, cauliflower nothing special. Disappointed with the steam bun mushroom ... mushroom practically non-existent. White wine ... obscenely small pour. Flan excellent. Carrot cake was good
I have not been to Maza14 since the brunch menu was change and the nice folks left. A friend had a layover, so we decided to grab an early dinner with the Groupon deal.
Fingers were cross, as the reviews of this place are so horrible now, that I was just hoping for a good server and a friendly host/hostess.
Maza14 is no longer Maza14. You can sense the changes but not for the best. Surprisingly the host for the night (Friday 1st) was a guy, he was very nice, in getting us seated in the area of our choosing and addressing an issue we had while seated. Matthew was our server. He was also great, attentive and the food came out as ordered and on time. The food that night was good.
I have eaten at and enjoyed Masa 14 in the past. I was really excited to bring my friend here to enjoy as well. Not sure what was different this time around but it was definitely not the experience or standards I remember. The food selections were minimal and the food arrived cold. Even the guests at the tables near us felt the same. Something has definitely changed but hoping today was just an off day. Overall the price is still not bad for all you can eat and drink.
This was my second outdoor brunch experience at Masa 14 and it was another let down. Not only was the service exceedingly slow for my party - compared to the surrounding groups - but our waiter actually forgot our orders twice. I will keep returning for happy hour, where the vibe and staffing are smoother; however, never again for brunch.
We had hard time finding a good spot - first, they gave us a table right another the heavy blowing A/C, then they gave us a table that was surrounded by three walls (felts like i was in a matchbox) next to the kitchen, and then finally gave us a decent table. The waitress didn't come to our table for 20 minutes, so we had to ask someone else to take our order. The food was delicious and versatile though.
I would have really liked this place but both waitresses were unfriendly and lacked appropriate customer service skills. They never cracked a smile nor returned to the table to offer water or to inquire about anything. When the young lady picked up the top I left (which I should TLH have) she didn't say thank you. Awful!!!
A big hit when it first opened at the beginning of the decade, Masa 14 no longer has much buzz as a dining destination. While it has a good deal of notoriety for its Sunday brunches and late-night parties, over the last few years chefs and menu concepts have come and gone. We had not made the one-block trip from our house to the restaurant in three years until we decided to take advantage of a Groupon offer.
First the good news: we were very happy with our meals. The restaurant has returned to its original Asian-Latin fusion concept after a recent stint as sushi specialist. Dishes we enjoyed from the restaurant's first years, such as flatbreads, okra, and spicy shrimp were well-executed. The tuna tacos in particular warrant a return visit.
Certain aspects of the dining experience were underwhelming, however. Our meal was unevenly paced. The openers came right after our cocktails, then there was a long gap until my principal dish came, and then there was another gap before my spouse received his.
There is also the matter of the room. What was originally an open kitchen is now blocked by a scrim, but the DJ booth is still prominent. That and the thumping instrumental music played throughout the meal gave the impression less of a dining room and more of a club-in-waiting -- something I did not have in my prior visits.
Millennial chic spot with a lot of attitude from the crowd--the staff there are great though. It is just a bummer when you are having dinner on the patio and you have to listen to someone playing tunes from their phone. Food was fine--challengingly spicy for the kids. Whole place lacked subtlety.
The weather was pretty terrible the night we went, but the ambiance and vibe inside Masa 14 was awesome!
Everything from cocktails (the Sake Martini is great, as well as the Tempranillo and Malbec) to our food was spot on. The Dim Sum Chicken Wings were outstanding. Just so, so, so good. The Steak/Shrimp Stir Fry Wok was delicious too. The Pork Tacos were superb, and the Tofu was even better than most.
Service was outstanding. Our dear Alicia was on point the whole night. She greeted us with the best of attitudes, helped us through the menu, checked in regularly, and was just so delightful. Thank you Alicia. Manager of the night, Igor, was outstanding as well. So kind, thoughtful and genuinely concerned about his patrons as always. Thank you too, Igor.
All in all a pretty awesome little place, even ten years later. Masa 14 has a beautiful rooftop bar, or you can dine in any number of tables below on the first floor. The bar spans the entire dining room on the right side as you walk in, so there's space for just a quick drink and eat too. Great place! We'll for sure be back to Masa 14!
I was here with a group of 6 friends for Saturday brunch. Service was great, our bartender/server Storm was a hit! He kept the drinks coming and was friendly and witty and made great conversation with us. He also gave us really helpful suggestions on what to order for the group. Food came out quickly after ordering. At $39 (plus tax) for unlimited brunch cocktails (mimosas, bellinis, etc) and unlimited food (small plates to share), it was worth it. If the weather is good, sit out on the rooftop instead of in the restaurant, you won't regret it!
After visiting this place multiple times for dinner and enjoying the experience, I returned with my family for brunch. However, the offerings just weren't as good as their dinner selection. The dishes didn't seem to be as creative and were very one-note in their taste. In addition, while the service was friendly, our server disappeared during the middle of the meal when we needed some additional items. We had to flag down another member of the staff twice who eventually helped us out, all without the knowledge of our server. The drinks were delicious though and definitely had a kick to them. Still a nice venue to enjoy with friends.
Great Saturday brunch- I have been here several times for brunch and I am never disppaointed. The food is pretty good, some dishes more than others. The bottomless drinks are great- there are more choices than most other brunch spots. Our service was excellent. Our server, Storm, was very friendly and quick to provide us service. I would highly recommend him. The rooftop is great for summer brunch.
The food is absolutely phenomenal! For tapas though I felt like we waited a while for the plates to come out.
Drinks were also great and I highly recommend the Lemon Lager.
Service was slow which was frustrating because the restaurant was so mildly busy and not packed that our server could have been more attentive, especially when we were trying to get the check and the servers were in the back by the kitchen chatting.
Good all you care to eat/drink brunch menu. Lovely rooftop, although the sails do not provide shade for the entire table and we had to adjust our seating periodically to stay in the shade. The warm biscuits are divine. We also especially enjoyed the bean and tofu salad, yuca fries, chorizo and potato hash, olive dip, and pork belly benedict. We tried to love the deviled eggs but we found that the avocado/guacamole overpowered the other ingredients.
The drinks were great. We ordered a few small plates and we just weren't overly impressed. The Brussel sprouts still had a large portion of the stem on them. A lot of the meats were so fatty you barely got one good bite off of them. Really liked the steak and shrimp fried rice! Our waitress was doing the best she could, I feel like she had 80% of the tables!
