Masa 14 Ratings and Reviews
I was expecting more after seeing the overall rating on OpenTable! We ordered the unlimited food option only, not drinks.
The servers and shift manager were polite, but the food runner was rude. I'm not sure what the confusion was, but I explained that I had an allergy to milk (cow/goat milk products) and all of my food came out with only egg ingredients excluded. And each time I told them it was wrong, they took the food back but didn't replace it with the correct plate.
The food I did try (guacamole deviled eggs, the BLT, kimchi fried rice, olive dip, chorizo hash) was all pretty mediocre - edible but definitely not great.
The place had a great vibe though! Good music but still quiet enough to hear people talking.
Under-whelmed with the food and service. The bartender was our server and he never introduced himself. He was polite but didn't give us run down of what the restaurant is and the type of food. He did advise us to start with light dishes however the food lacked flavor. He took a long time delivering our drinks. Our food took awhile too. Not sure why when the place was not busy.
The food was not good. Everything was served cold to the table. Our waitress was super sweet and we loved her. Management comped the food so we only paid for drinks so they took care of it but would have much rather had a hot meal and paid for it. Hopefully it was just an off day.
The quality has significantly gone down since the last time I was there. The menu has changed, the food quality is not as good. 3/4 of the new menu is premium drinks. What happened to the food and quality selection? Foreshadows what happened with Beacon Bar and Grill.
Most of the tapas bars on 14th were all booked up and Masa 14 still had openings! So glad they did, we picked the $60 all you can eat/drink option and it was worth the money! Our server was incredible and our food was always prompt! I am celiac and I liked how many options they had.
Masa is a great mix of spanish/asian flare. We did the unlimited tapas and it was well worth it. Everything was delicious. The waitress was super sweet (Tracy) and while we ordered a lot she paced the food for us which was great. Ambiance was cool, it's a bit loud so not necessarily where I would take a first date. The bar was chill and I would definitely recommend this spot.
I had heard good things about this place. However, our table of 2 waited for 35 minutes despite having a reservation. We never got the desserts that we had ordered. Service was severely lacking. I wouldn't go back and wouldn't necessarily recommend it to anyone. Plenty of better choices around town.
Came here for their $45 all you can eat tapas dinner and again Masa did not disappoint. The food was great and the service was equally as great. This was a Monday night so it was pretty quiet in there but I have been there on occasion when they are pretty busy. The noise level is never an issue. I always recommend this place first to anyone who texts me about dinner recommendations. To the Masa 14 team, Keep up the great work.
Masa 14 has long been a Sunday Brunch Staple for me but this time I was let down. We were seated in wobbly bar height tables on the 2nd Floor facing the door which would usher in cold outside air every now and again.
The menu seems to have gotten slimmer, not so many food offerings as usual and the food came out cold which wasn't very nice. When asked how we were enjoying our meals by the server, we told him it was good but cold, and we really didn't like the egg dishes b/c of the food temperature. He came out with warmer eggs the next go 'round.
Overall, I won't be reserving a table at Masa 14 anymore. If my friends want to go I will probably join in but I won't suggest it as a destination any longer.
The restaurant is fairly noisy, but t in a great location and good scene inside. Interesting mix of Asian/Latin fusion. The spicy tuna temaki hand roll was good, not great. Could have used more tuna and spice. The Korean grilled flat-iron steak was the highlight. At medium rare It was tasty. The pork belly steamed buns were crispy (almost too crispy like bacon) but not enough pork for the bun. It could have used more of the pineapple filling, as well. Drinks plan to wait a long time if you order Sake Martini. It didn’t arrive until we were almost finished with the food. If you are very hungry, get the unlimited tapas, as it’s worth it if ordering more than 3-4 dishes per person. Overall I was not impressed, but would try again, especially on a nice night night to enjoy the rooftop.
The food must be good here if I continue to spill it on myself every time I go... I've tasted most of the unlimited tapas items and have only really had 3 that I didn't enjoy [crispy brussells sprouts (tasted burnt), chicken skewers (dry) and pork & beef meatballs (just didn't work for me)].
The hostess has always been pleasant during my visits too.
Disappointed with my dinner here. I had a Groupon-type coupon and my boyfriend and I each ordered the free-flowing small plates and a drink, which was on all-night happy hour. Our food was alright but we reached a point where we couldn't eat anymore of our cauliflower and seaweed salad and were told that the restaurant policy is to not let anyone take any food home. Since it's a "bottomless" food option, we had to let the food be thrown in the trash. It was frustrating from an environmental perspective and my boyfriend and I were both incredibly disappointed that the restaurant would rather throw out food than let people take home their leftovers. The food we ate sat in our stomachs all night and didn't feel good to either of us. Neither of us would go back.
Couldn't taste any booze in the drinks we ordered.
I went with a Living Social deal, which I was able to use on the unlimited tapas (with beverages). I'm pretty sure they let you order as many as you want each time (I ordered 3 and 4 plates at a time), probably best to keep it at that level to have hot food.
The baby octopus was by far my favorite, followed by the crispy chicken wings and the crunchy shrimp. They selection is pretty broad, so everyone should be able to find something they like. The only issue I had was with the crispy brussels spouts, they were a bit too charred for my liking and a bit mushy on the inside - I guess I really just prefer them sliced (instead of halved) and roasted, so that the cook is even throughout.
The food was excellent. Our only objection was how it arrived. We ordered five dishes to share, and they all arrived cold dishes first, followed by the hot dishes a minute or two later. By the time we finished the cold dishes, the hot dishes were barely warm. This is a problem, not just at Masa 14, but at most tapas restaurants.
We enjoyed our visit to Masa 14 very much and were pleasantly surprised that the mid-October weather accommodated us dining on the rooftop. The food was very good. The service was considerably lacking. It took us quite a long time to be seated, although the restaurant was nearly empty (a Thursday evening). Our server was not attentive at all. We had to track somebody down to bring us napkins/utensils, and our drinks were empty but we couldn't find her for refills before happy hour ended (not talking down to the wire sucking our drinks down - as in, we couldn't find her from 6:30-7pm). So, props for the food, but lousy service.
First time at Masa 14. Drinks, food, service all quite good. Combined happy hour items with regular menu items as we were there before 7 PM. No problem. For small plates, a surprisingly decent and sharable amount of food. Pork belly steam buns, crispy shrimp, and meat dishes were extremely tasty and creative. Will definitely go back and put Masa 14 on my go to neighborhood list.
Good food marred by really poor service. 20 minutes from sitting down until a waiter bothered to come to the table even after attempting to flag someone down (which was ignored); THEN another 25 minutes to get 2 glasses of wine served - had to go into the bar area to inquire if the wine order was ever put in and found our waitress chatting with 2 staff while the wine was sitting at the server station at the bar. Food was a highlight but will not recommend or come back ever again.
