Mas Malo Ratings and Reviews
Great service from our server Josh. We had brunch with $20 Bottomless sangria plus guacamole and tacos. Everything tasted great and good portion size. The Mariachi band plays one Sunday a month. They were amazing and fun and very loud! Would love to see and hear them again!
The food was good, upscale Mexican with some unique dishes. The prices were somewhat high. The real negative was the service. The salad took a long time to get and then when we weren't half-way done with the salads the main course came. They were in a rush to move people in and out. I don't need to go back.
The vegan dishes I had were very good. However my wife felt her chicken dish had a sweet taste to the sauce that drowned the dish and was not appealing. We both agree the pinto beans were far tastier than the black beans. The black beans tasted like they were cooked as an after thought to just add another item on the menu. Most of all the drinks we had were excellent. The Tequila Manhattan and the Spicy cucumber drink were very flavorful and lived up to expectations. The service by Josh was excellent and attentive. He gets 6 stars on a 5 star rating. The ambience was lively but not too loud where we could hear our conversation We will return and give Mas Malo another chance. Also try the kale salad. It was tasty and filling.
We were seeing a comedian at the Ace Hotel and were looking for a close restaurant downtown. My husband and I love Mexican food, so we are always looking for places to try when we are in a new area. The ambiance was dark and romantic (swanky for those of us from the OC) and what we found very LA. The service was great; helpful with suggestions, prompt with orders, and timely with food delivery. The Spicy Cucumber Margarita was a hit at our table, but I had the Organic which was delish too. We highly recommend the guacamole with pomegranate seeds, the bacon wrapped shrimp, and the pumpkin enchiladas. So glad we chose this restaurant.
This dinner was our third visit - and it was quite nice. We'll definitely be going back for more... Food is inventive and tasty but true to Mexican roots. Cocktails are amazing - I recommend the spicy cucumber margarita... Had the grilled cod tacos - well prepared and delicious. My friend had the skirt steak - a bit chewy for my tastes - but very flavorful. Service was friendly and attentive.
Food is always amazingly good! The bacon wrapped shrimp is one of my favorite dishes! Overall the dining was good, we're regulars but this was the first time we went for the bottomless mimosas. It took us a while at first to get another round of drinks but afterwards we got them with decent timing. The waitress was nice enough to serve me a plate that wasn't in the menu which was a plus! I definitely suggest this place!
Food was good, service was quick for a lunch crowd. It takes a more authentic spin on California Mexican, and everything was tasty and appealing to a large group. Our server was pleasant and helpful, and there was a supportive staff keeping water glasses full and bringing new baskets of tortilla chips without having to ask.
I find it pretty difficult to mess up Mexican food, but combined with the aloof, don't come to you unless you get up and get him, waiter- sending back our food just was another difficulty. Not to mention the $2 wine they tried to pass off as a quality Cab- didn't send it back, just left.
The food and ambience are very good. I like the way they used an old building to build a restaurant in. My only advice is that they be aware of the size of a group they book to entertain. The sound bounces off the walls and too many people playing instruments is just plain too loud.
Can't say I'd recommend it. Pretty forgettable Mexican restaurant that thinks it's fancier than it really is. They are not very customer centric. I asked them to mix the red and green chili enchiladas - ala New Mexico - and was told they can't do that. Cue the image of the chef from Caddy Shack screaming "DOOOOG FOOOODD!!!!" Seriously. What an uppity joke. You're not a Michelin stared restaurant. You're not a world famous chef. You peddle mid-grade Mexican food and syrupy sweet margaritas. Won't go back. But I will go to Broken Spanish when I want uppidity delicious pan-Mexican food.
