Pan Roasted Octopus
yukon potato, cerignola olives, arugula preserved lemon, calabrian chili
tomato, mozzarella & basil
Octopus appetizer a must. Both fish and pasta entrees were cooked perfectly
First, we should say that we were there at 5pm on a Sunday night, so very quiet. We sat at the bar and enjoyed the chicken arrabiatta and brussel sprouts. All washed down with an incredible IPA. (*Recommended by our adorable team.) It was fun to watch the food - pizza and many other menu items - being prepared in the wood oven, and all of the staff shared responsibilities in making sure we had an enjoyable evening!
Area where we were seated was so dark, people were using their cell phone flashlights to read the menu. Food...just okay...not the Marzano’s of a decade ago.
Great place which we enjoy whenever we eat there.
Love this neighborhood restaurant. Great location, excellent drinks and food. Moderately priced.
Great neighborhood place with great food. Wonderful service !
Marzano is truly a neighborhood gem. We love it always.
Great food, especially the Neapolitan style pizza, but the tables are too close together to have a private conversation.
I understand Valentines Day is a big night but we had reservations and still ended up waiting quite sometime before we sat down. We ended up sitting at the end of the bar.
Excellent pizza and meatballs. Make reservations ahead of time as the line is out the door. Parking is tough.
Food was very good, but service was great. Our server gave good suggestions that ultimately led to an improved experience being our first time there. The only critiques I have are that the place is relatively small so tables are very close to each other and since it being Valentine’s Day it was very busy, which made us feel compelled to wrap up quickly so others could sit down.
Marzano always delivers tasty cuisine and cocktails with consistently excellent service in a cozy dining room. Perfect place to catch up with friends and family!
Really disappointed they didn't check the note about a birthday in my Open Table reservation. Missed putting a candle on dessert which was a disappointment.
Great food and cocktail options for a dinner out with friends. There was something for everyone on the menu and great dishes to share.
Best service and food and overall ambiance in the region! We LOVE Marzano!
I requested a quiet table (through the app), but we were seated in the noise room.
I requested cheese on the side and they put it on top.
They don’t list which wines are vegan and which are not.
Next time I’ll just go to a vegetarian/vegan restaurant.
Anniversary and restaurant week. Food was luke warm. So was service. No acknowledgement of anniversary. Said restaurant week ended (contrary to website). Showed the waitress that. She was not willing to honor or make accommodations. Would have been easy to have said we’ll bring you a soft serve with a smile.
I made a reservation for two for 8:15 p.m. and arrived well before that (8:05.) The place was packed with at least 20 customers standing, apparently waiting for tables, and more coming in ever few minutes or so. The maitre d' informed me that "a table will open up closer to your actual reservation" and suggested I wait outside in the 43 degree night, where a heat lamp made a barely noticeable difference. He said he's call me when our table was ready. at 8:25 I went back in and found him. Again, he assured me that it would be "just a few minutes." This time, we moved indoors and stood by the bar, joined by throngs of others also waiting for tables. Every five minutes or so I would ask the maitre d' where we stood, especially as I observed him several times seating people who appeared to have arrived after us. Finally, four tables opened within our eyesight, and he led another couple to one of them. I nabbed him on his return and asked again about our table. At this point it was 8:50 p.m. "It should be in a few minutes," he assured again. "Remind me, what is your name, honey?" I'm not even going to explain how that remark set me off! At 8:55 p.m. I approached him again. "Should be just a few minutes he blithely repeated. I said, "No, it's either now or we're leaving." Not surprisingly, he suddenly found a table for us. The food was fine. The food service was good, but inexplicably, two glasses of wine only reached our table halfway into the meal, though they had been ordered at the same time as the dinner. I just wouldn't go back--and I live within 20 minutes of the restaurant. It just isn't worth the hassle. I understand that people sometimes don't leave their tables when predicted, but this scenario reeked of poor management and a desire to pack as many reservations as possible into the evening, disregarding the possibility of long waits. I repeat, I wouldn't go back.
Consistently good food and jovial service.
Great pizza, really good pastas, and decent small plates. A regular for our family.
Great little restaurant on Park Avenue in Oakland offering great pizzas and other italian fare. Wine list while not extensive, features great value and the bar has creative cocktails. The night we were there, the line chefs might have been a tad too liberal with salt, but other than that, we enjoyed ourselves immensely.
Delicious food and lots of fun!
So accommodating- we eat a plant-based diet and the restaurant went above and beyond to adjust menu items for us. The food is delicious and the service was excellent! Highly recommend Marzano!
Lovely neighborhood spot with great food and drinks. Would strongly recommend for a good meal and nice folks.
Excellent neighborhood restaurant. Delicious salad, excellent pizza, chicken could be a bit less salty.
A great restaurant for friends and family. A bit over priced but the food was excellent.
Ringing in the New Year at Marzano was the perfect way to welcome 2020!
The beautiful setting was the perfect backdrop for the spectacular food and the attentive service.
Although the restaurant was bustling, our lovely server took time to answer questions and offer suggestions.
We devoured the Orecchiette Bolognese and the wood-fired filet. Thank you Marzano for the warm and scrumptious welcome to 2020!
Marzano’s is such a joy. The owner an staff are delightful and the food and drinks are consistently delicious.
Food was great--we enjoyed every dish. Service was good as well. There was no acknowledgement of our anniversary, which was noted in the reservation. Perhaps that's not something they do. Overall, the experience was enjoyable.
Depending on where you sit, this can be a fun atmosphere or a little dull. Seated in the back room is fine for a large group but not for a date night. Better to sit in the bar area for a little buzz. Service was so-so - nice but forgetful server. Timing was way off - the entrees arrived while we were still finishing our starters. Food was ok, not great. Hanger steak was ordered medium and half was rare; chicken arrabiata which is normally very good was over spiced with too much sauce. They've done better - maybe an off night
nice place to have salad and pizza. no frills, that's it
Service is great, price not bad at all, but the food was lacking flavor. The pasta dish with pumpkin would be better if they switch out the pumpkin to butternut and really brown or crisp the sage before adding it. The pasta was cooked perfectly but no taste - needed salt (and I’m not a heavy salt person). The pizza is super thin and browned to a nice fluffy crisp on the edges but again bland. Needed basil or black pepper order top with a tiny drizzle of olive oil. The desert fruit crisp was the best:) I mean this all constructively because I really want to like the place and come back. It has really great staff
Great love it
Enjoyed a fabulous dinner with my girlfriends. The food was delicious, as were the cocktails!
Always a treat a true Oakland treasure.
Two words: hazelnut pesto. 😀
Love this place! It is a neighborhood gem. Servers are extremely friendly and attentive. The food is always yummy. Highly recommend.
Great pizza, chopped salad and grilled octopus -- all were excellent. Service was a little slow, took 15 minutes to get drinks and another 10 to order food, but it was a Friday night. The only disappointment was too much salt (or wrong kind of salt?) on the olive oil and sea salt over ice cream.
We have been to Marzano many, many times and as expected, we had an excellent meal (pizza and salad were delicious) and a fantastic wait-person. I usually give it 5 stars but this last time, we were greeted by a woman who checked our reservation on the computer and said she would find a table. Then a guy came up and started to do the same. I said, "Oh, there is already someone getting us a table" at which point he said, "I am the HOST, so I am the one who will HELP YOU" in a very unpleasant, almost sarcastic tone. Then he led us to the table and in my mind, also sat us rather sarcastically, if that is possible. I was at first surprised since I had thought the first woman was helping us, and then upset at his ungraciousness and abruptness. I will go back for the food and the wait-staff but hope not to see this guy again.
We went last night for our Anniversary and were greeted at the door by 2 servers who both said “Happy Anniversary!” to us. They even brought us glasses of champagne to celebrate!
Great food, really lovely servers who worked hard to make everything comfortable (from making the table more steady to keeping the glasses full), and delicious cocktails to boot.
We will definitely be back!
