Food never fails. Service is great.
Between the mob scene inside the restaurant with large parties hovering and waiting for tables, having the tables so close that it was impossible to carry on a conversation if your neighbors (a few inches away) were loud as ours were (and one droning on about his horrible parents and childhood -- TMI), and service that was, at best, brusk and impatient, at worst, rude -- it didn't turn out to be the kind of sweet date night we'd hoped for. The food was good, but the experience was so awful, we didn't want to linger. We have have both worked in restaurants, so understand when things get busy and chaotic, and I rarely comment on service, but this was a special kind of terrible and it is unlikely that we will ever go back when there are so many charming Italian restaurants in the Bay Area. No charm here.
Great friendly service, fantastic food, refreshing drinks. Not sure why I do not go there more often since it is so close to home!
One of Oakland's secret treasures. Wonderful food, local atmosphere in a cute little hood that you won't find in any tourist publication. Everything is fresh, flavorful and well presented. The staff is what makes this place so wonderful, they are friendly and fun. When you add in a full bar and great wine list, you really can't go wrong. I highly recommend it.
The staff is amazing and make every take feel special. Christina has the table laughing and didn't want the night to end. The pizza was brilliant in their wood burning oven and the steak was done to perfection
Food was delicious, especially the asparagus pizza and polenta!!
Wonderful service, playlist, and flavors! They paid attention to my request for a cozy romantic corner, and even lit some little candles :)
The wood fired crust was delicious and perfectly toasted and bubbly. The salad with apples and arugula was refreshing with the right amount of dressing. We also enjoyed the balsamic ice cream, but it had a little too many salt crystals on top. Great date night spot!
Everything was great, except the screaming baby. They even gave us a special surprise for our anniversary. Can't wait until there are no children restaurants.
While the food is always very very good, the servers and bartender at Marzano are superlative. Fun, kind, friendly, very knowledgeable. Love sitting outside, terrific wine recommendations and their pizza are divine. What a gem!
Four of us dined as a thank you and the wait staff, servers, chefs were amazing. We love the food, the atmosphere and the sheer joy of going there. An affordable, neighborhood, romantic destination.
The host was warm and friendly but our server was cold. Our server seemed almost annoyed when we asked her questions and she was in such a rush. Thankfully the busser stepped in and got us additional beverages and dessert menus at the end of our evening. I really wanted to love this restaurant because it is a quick trip down to park blvd. On the positive side the seasonal dishes were tasty and the soft serve ice cream was tasty. The service was just disappointing.
Started with their special spicy cocktail that was super. The pasta and pizza were outstanding. We chose the rigatoni with ricotta and pizza with homemade Italian sausage. We were to full for dessert but they sounded super good.
Great food and vibe but condescending server. Really unpleasant Will not go back.
This was our first visit to Marzano and we were extremely pleased with the food and service. We ordered the pan roasted Spanish octopus and were warned by our attentive waitress that it was spicy. She wasn't wrong! The octopus was cooked perfectly and the potatoes were a great complement. It also included many cerignola olives which were too many for us but if you like olives, you'll like this dish. Brought out at the same time was the Marzano chopped salad. The chopped salad included many vegetables finely chopped making it very easy to eat. This went perfectly with the spicy octopus, soothing the heat from that dish. The salad was a large portion giving us enough to take home leftovers. Our main dish was the margherita pizza. The crust was crispy thin with a good chew on the rim. The sauce was perfect. Delicious! Since we were there at Happy Hour discounts, the pizza was only $10. What a great price! We also ordered cocktails, a margarita for my husband and a Glenview julep for me. These were $8 at Happy Hour but we were charged $10. That is my only complaint about our meal and it was my bad for not inquiring about the higher price. The waitress was top-notch, paying attention to our every need. We were celebrating our anniversary and she ended our meal with complimentary champagne. What a great way to end our meal. We will definitely be back.
I would definitely recommend Marzano Restaurant to my friends. We ordered Fried Green Tomatoes and they were delicious! Crisp served with a tangy white sauce. For the entrees, I selected the baked rigatoni and the 4 cheese pizza. The pizza crust was light and crispy, just right! The rigatoni was also quite tasty. We also ordered Hemingway daiquiris - very good! And lastly, for dessert we shared a strawberry/rhubarb crisp. Delicious!
Had a _great_ pizza, with a side of octopus and asparagus. Splendid cocktails; great vibe! Made for a perfect close to the week.
Wonderful food, wonderful host, not too friendly waitress, too dark to see and a little bit too noisy with the music. The pizzas were so delicious -as was the chopped salad!
Last minute date night when I didn’t feel
Like cooking. It was a fine meal.
Wonderful atmosphere, great food, excellent service. Pizza is terrific as well as entrees...I had their true cod which was sublime.
We were first timers here but will definitely be back! We started with the octopus and meatballs which were both stellar. The meatballs were tender and flavorful. The octopus was seasoned beautifully but it should have had a bit more octopus in the dish. We both had steak and it was fantastic. The smashed potatoes caused a "moment" they were so damn good. I am not a sweets person but we were on a roll. I had strawberry rhubarb crumble which was delicious and he had that the chocolate chili pot de creme which he gave a 4/5. In a word YUM!
Delicious food. Service was slow but friendly. It was loud and dark inside despite still being light outside when we arrived.
Excellent choice of appetizers and main. Split all dishes. Mock tail by a mixologist — awesome. Excellent service. Marx ani’s is our go-to neighborhood restaurant. Very affordable.
Started with a Manhattan cocktail. Then a delicious arugula salad. Next, cooked to perfection a well seasoned pan-seard cod.
The remodelled bar area is very nice, classy and comfortable and an improvement over the old Marzano's. We had a pleasant table and enjoyed the ambience -- it was cozy and fun looking out at the street. We also enjoyed the chopped salad. However, the pizza (the reason we came) was disappointing.
For years, until it closed in 2014, my husband and I went to Marzano's regularly for their fennel sausage & bitter greens pizza. That pizza was just fantastic in every way! The other night, my friend and I were really looking forward to that pizza, hoping it was still as great, but unfortunately, the new version was totally different and, frankly, just not anywhere as good.
Great seasonal options. Love the cauliflower and spring onion fritters.
Good food and service. Parking is very limited.
Terrific food, a neighborhood gem!
We will be frequent diners here.
We had a 7pm reservation on Saturday night, we arrived about 3 minutes early and they sat us immediately, worried that we might be cold by the front door. We accepted that table and weren't cold. Food was amazing, service was amazing and the adorable host was awesome. Love this place!
We had a lovely dinner, the octopus dish with potatoes, preserved lemon and green olives was to die for. Beet salad was lovely and our pasta dish hit the spot. Great Italian wine selection, enjoyed a Vermentino and Fiano, both of which are rare finds but much appreciated. Our service was great and the ambiance was just what we were looking for, perfect for a date or family meal.
We’d been looking for a good Italian restaurant and were pleased to find one just around the corner! The octopus appetizer was outstanding, and the baked rigatoni was done just right.
Love this place! Just keeps getting better and better, great food, good music not so loud that we can’t carry on a conversation. We always feel very welcomed when we arrive. They even know our name and greet us with hugs. Highly recommended!
Went to Marzano with my husband for a date night. But we saw lots of children, so it’s definitely a family friendly spot. Food was delicious. Especially liked pizza and the chopped salad. We would definitely visit again.
This is a decent restaurant serving average food. I don't mean that in a negative way. If you're looking for good, basic Italian food, this is a fine restaurant. We had pizza and baked ziti, both of which were good. Service was fine.
Wonderful service and great food (and the prices, especially for the quality, can’t be beat). They do a great job of staggering the courses. You don’t feel like you’re being rushed out to rotate tables. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable. Great for a date, or for larger groups. Go there! You’ll be happy you did.
We had a Marzano's weekend! Takeout food on Saturday night - a vegetarian papardelle, Alaskan cod and grilled brussels sprouts - and early supper on Sunday night in the restaurant - ziti della casa and the Alaskan cod again. Interesting to compare the difference between straight out of the kitchen and a short ride homer; no difference in taste but the immediacy from the grill to the table is obviously unbeatable. Still amazing how their careful preparation in flavors and seasonings are just as tasty on the palate at home as at their own restaurant tables. We are moving to Carlsbad and will miss Marzano's big-time!
Everything was perfect. Thank you!
Marzano is like home away from home for us. The pizzas, appetizers and salads never disappoint. We are particularly fond of their meatballs, spicy roasted octopus and their mushroom pizza, but really have enjoyed all the items we’ve ever ordered. Their cocktails are creative and delicious and offer a broad selection of Italian and California wines by the glass. While the food is this neighborhood gem draws you in, the warm, welcoming service you get from everyone from the host/ess, to the bartenders, to the waiters—keeps us coming back time and time again.
Let me begin by reminding everyone of the competition amongst restaurants in the Bay Area. That said, Marzano’s is a fine neighborhood choice with consistently good food and a pleasant atmosphere.
perfectly balanced and interesting chicory salad, delicate tempura veg, thrilling, amazing chicken arrabiata - always interesting wines
Food and service were amazing as always. Even the host seated us the moment we walked in at 7pm on a Saturday night. Love love love this place. We always have a good time at Marzano. We love the friendly staff too.
