I love this place. They have awesome cocktails and they also have amazing food. This is a great place to catch up with friends b/c you can actually hear each other talk. Their cocktails really are exquisite. I love their "respect the elders" drink and the rosemary sprig was a great touch. I also tried the polenta cake entree and it was flavorful and perfect. My friend had the burger and he said it was awesome. I definitely plan on coming here regularly. Important to note, it was great to go there on a Friday night. It wasn't too crowded and we were able to get a table for dinner right away at 9pm.

SOOOO sad to see this place go! No other place like it - the ambiance was just as rock n roll as the food. The east village ain't what it used to be anymore.

Food, service and ambience were all good. But the restaurant was out of many items on its menu. Specifically, it was out of 2 of its 7 appetizers and out of 3 of its 7 main courses. There were even several items on its cocktail list it couldn't make because the bar was out of the necessary ingredients.

LOVED our dinner here. Menu is creative and impressive, tho techniques were a bit off... I ordered the Wellington, whose pasty was a gooey mess. But at least the meat was done to my preference. Decor and ambiance are A+. Decor, decor, decor....!

The menu was somewhat all over the place, and neither the best of Scots nor English/ British. The atmosphere felt strange, the back room is no doubt interesting with the gate, but the rest of it felt choppy; though I was there early evening for a Saturday (~6pm-ish, very early for NYC standards). The food turned out to be just fair, and I could see that it might pick up later for drinks but then again, they lack a Scotch list that would warrant that too.

Went here for my birthday, and I really loved it. The decor is great. Loved the plaid booths in the front room, and the more romantic ambiance of the back room. There are two bars, with the smaller one in the back room. The cocktails were spectacular, and the food was very good. I'm always looking for places that have outstanding atmosphere, where you can actually hear your dinner partner, and have a satisfying meal. I would definitely recommend Mary Queen of Scots, and I look forward to returning.

Was a little quiet when we arrived but soon got busier and more lively. The menu was short but had some interesting choices (although where was the haggis)? We shared the rilette and they brought lots of delicious toast to go with it. We both had the venison Wellington with a side of roasted brussel sprouts. It was delicious: very nicely cooked, tender venison. Brussel sprouts were fantastic! Wine was a little pricey for the quality but only a minor issue. Service was attentive with knowledgeable staff. The dining room was decorated with a fun mix of old and new: really great surroundings and helped create a great atmoshphere. Will definitely be back.

Great drinks menu, and delicious dinners. The atmosphere is romantic like a Scottish hunting lodge. I had the Venison Wellington and had to take breaks while eating it to remember to talk to my dinner partners. It was so delicious. And the brussels sprouts! Charred just enough to give them some delicious crunch, and lightly seasoned. They were fabulous. We started our meal with oysters, three west coast and three east coast, and then my buddies ordered the pork chop and the duck. Both meals had a similar effect on them as mine did on me. We'll have to go back and sample their beautiful dessert menu.

This is a great find. I went here with my girlfriend knowing that the scotch menu alone would make this place worthwhile. There were brands and varieties of scotch unlike any I had seen. We decided to grab food here. The food is very good (girlfriend ordered pork chop which was out of this world) but my fish & chips was not fresh. I would recommend any other meal but that.

Mary Queen of Scots is a fun place to go with a few friends for a casual dinner. It's not a huge menu and nothing on there is especially new or innovative, it's just good Scottish style food. The atmosphere is relaxed and interesting and the service is good.

Food was good, although the sweet & sour sauce was a little heavy-handed on the Devils on Horseback. Our server was gracious, but not what I would call friendly, and could have visited the table a bit more often. Loved the ambiance. My husband and I are in outlays thirties, and we felt a bit too old for the crowd. On our way out, the host announced that the $3 tip my husband gave him was cheap. Well, thanks. We were on the fence, because we liked the food, but we won't be back.

Was disappointed. They sat folks as they came in. The first table they tried to put us at was sandwiched between a table of 3 and a table of two. It completely felt like we were having dinner with the table of 3 we were so on top of them. They then moved us to the front of the restaurant, but right up next to table that had folks at it. despite the 6 other empty tables in the room which remained empty till almost the end of our meal. There is bench seating and I needed to ask the women next to me to stop bouncing on the bench as she was doing it so much it was causing me to go up and down while I ate. The food was fine, not expectional. The server was WONDERFUL and very sweet.

New Year's ambience with mood lighting, decorating and service very well done. Special menu was good - husband had excellent cullen skink (cod soup) followed by steak pie (good). I had spinach salad and cod, both which were a bit salty. Desert was disappointing, a caramel pudding that was also salty. The price was fair - $65 but could've been better. They seemed to have a great scotch selection. I would eat there again, although probably just off their regular menu.

This is a small hidden gem in the vicinity of Chinatown worth discovering. Their beer battered oysters are phenomenal. Cute setting which gives the feel of middle age Scotland. Pork entree was delicious as well! We had a new waiter but he was great.

The food was wonderful. We had drinks, shared some appetizers (get the fried boozy brussel sprouts- they are amazing!), entrees and dessert. I think you can say we got a good sampling. It's not cheap but it's very reasonable considering the quality. The appetizers are a bit on the small side, but three split well among four people. The entrees were good portions of food.

What a surprise! We ate here on Saturday night. I happen to love many of the new British chefs, and Chris Rendall, didn't disappoint with his interpretations. Devils on Horseback, Endive, Pear and Pecan salad with Blue Cheese, both good starters, a wonderful Pork Chop, among the best my husband has ever eaten, and Fish/Prawn and Chips with Mushy Minted Peas were out of sight - and just back from the UK, I have a recent comparison. The restaurant is charming. A fantastic dining table in the front if there are 6, great bar and just the right amount of noise. We will be back and also try their other restaurants, Highlands Bar and White Hall.

When we arrived, hardly anyone else was in the dining room, but we had a 6 p.m. reservation and many more people had arrived by the time we were leaving. Beautiful place, fantastic service (not overly attentive but just enough). Our entrees (pork chop, fish & chips, and the burger) were good, but leaning more toward average than above average. The dessert, however, was excellent (banana pudding in some sort of graham cracker crust with caramel sauce). It was a small portion and I probably could have had two myself! Overall I would probably go back here if I lived in the neighborhood, but only then. Granted, we did not have any cocktails and the place seems to be known for them.
