Very very small portion for the price! Crazy expensive!
Sat at Sushi Bar and Robert made the experience special.
Crunchy tuna roll is out of this world! All sushi was very fresh!
We had a fantastic time at Maru. It was our first visit to this restaurant and we will definitely be coming back next year! The food was amazing and the staff was outstanding. Friendly, fun and accommodating. We loved it!
Great sushi - freshest in town.
Excellent dinner and service. We will definitely be back and highly recommend.
Comparing to the other two japanese restaurants I know in Aspen (Matsuhisa and Kenichi), Maru is far away the worst... They have a good menu, but in terms of taste, presentation, service and space they are behind the others...
Great sushi, scallops and rolls! Above the expectations
We were brought to this restaurant by reviews in Open Table and Yelp. We were hopeful that the prices would be BETTER than the other sushi restaurant in Aspen ... and we were VERY happy. Nothing is cheap in Aspen and their sushi was not inexpensive ... BUT ... it was definitely less expensive than that other sushi restaurant AND EVERY BIT AS GOOD. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was lively and attractive. We will be back!
Excellent food, great service, nice environment - not too noisy which we liked!
Excellent sushi and friendly staff! We will visit Maru again.
We had a great time with our grandchildren but the sushi is just fair.
Interesting menu with some very tasty alternatives. We really liked the Blue fin tuna with fois gras.
This is best value for Japanese food in Aspen. Prices are reasonable grading on Aspen restaurant curve, and quality matches other alternatives, which are considerably less “economic”. Very pleasant ambiance, and rare these days it quiet, you can actually have normal conversations. Wait staff and service was outstanding last several visits, though never worse than excellent.
Food was delicious. Our serve was Frank. He was awesome!
Good place, excellent service and the food was amazing we really enjoyed
Food was good, service was attentive. We were seated at a table opposite this doorway with a very cold draft. When we asked to be reseated we were told that we could be but not for 45 minutes despite several empty tables.
MARU never disappoints. We love it and dine here often. Make the experience compete by trying several different dishes. The Octopus preparations are wonderful
Great service and food was so delicious!
Charles and Jefferson took outstanding care of our party of 8! We appreciated the gluten free moderations for two of our guests! Fantastic New Years Eve dinner and celebration with hats and horns and all! HNY!! We will be back!
Seriously my favorites Aspen restaurant. Taylor is just a sushi master! And the staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and lovely!
Brilliant Christmas Eve dinner! We shall return.
We reserved a table for 3 and they gave us the option of a high top in the bar or a seat at the sushi bar even though they had 4 tops open. We reluctantly opted for the sushi bar where they sat us at the end next to the kitchen. Now every person coming and going from the kitchen had to push up against us to get by rather than going around. After about the 20th person brushed and pushed their butt on us to get by I got up to complain to management. With tables open they offered to move us down the sushi bar and pay for out bottle of wine. We are locals and want to eat here again we will be smarter about where we are seated.
The food was top notch as was the service at the table. We had a ramen bowl that was delicious and lots of fresh nigiri style sushi.
All is well that ends well. We will eat here again and for sushi in Aspen it was a good value.
Maru has the best sashimi/sushi anywhere! Amazing food and wonderful service!
The octopus, sashimi tastings, uni and Otoro were all top notch!
Some of the best sushi on the planet. Was told they get their fish from the same vendor as the pricier places. Best sushi value in Aspen with a great dining atmosphere. The specialty roll with wagyu is the best roll ever made, EVER !!
Not that great. Expensive for less than standard Japanese food. Quite disappointing
Fresh, tasty food and great service. Waitress made recommendations that were delicious - the duck/pancake dish and and the shrimp ramen dish.
Giving this place two stars for an original menu and good food. My wife and I received only one of the three dishes we ordered, in a 50 minute period while the restaurant was quiet. When we asked about our other dishes, our waiter did not know what we had ordered and had to ask us again. When he couldn't find a trace of our order we asked for the check and left. The manager apologized and did not charge us for food or drink. Terrible waste of potential.
Amazing!!! Overused but this food is truly exquisite. Service impeccable. Everyone pitches in to make your experience thoroughly enjoyable. Four locals have come together to make something truly special. They have their own vegetable garden so everything is organic and seasonal. We had the tempura squash blossoms. So yummy!!!!
Excellent specialty rolls, good quality Sashimi and well presented food.
Very nice atmosphere downstairs if outside is not weather participating, but the patio has a wonderful vibe overlooking the park and playground.
was very good food very good cuisine
thank you full bar ,good vegetarian
The waiter messed up our order even after re confirming it three times. Food arrived ninety minutes after we ordered. Avoid.
The presentation was lovely and the patio was nice. However, the sushi had no flavor and the drinks were so bad we couldn’t even finish them. Do NOT recommend.
We had a wonderful server, name escaping me who was from Argentina. Very friendly and great wide kids. The sushi in my view was mixed with delivery and pacing inconsistent. Seems like there are a few reasons this isn't one of the better sushi spots in Aspen.
One of the best sushi dinners in recent memory (and we’re picky!) Quality fish, wonderful preparations, and attentive staff. Highly recommend.
Food quality poorly cooked
Black cod was tough
Kanpachi was chewy
Maru was outstanding. Service was attentive and friendly, noise levels allowed for east conversation and the food was stellar. All the fish was incredibly fresh and flavorful.
Black cod - moist, flavorful, delicious
Atomic shrimp - decadent. It is fried and heavy on sauce but so good.
Kimchi- fresh, crisp and spicy. Really good.
Crunchy, spicy tuna roll - melt in your mouth texture with a crispy outside. So good. Some places cook The whole thing which ruins the tuna in my opinion. Maru just rolls it in a crispy exterior and the tuna stays raw. Yummm.
Yellowtail with grapefruit sashimi. We loved this but would have liked more grapefruit.
Negimaki- the only thing we didn’t love. It wasn’t bad just not as amazing as everything else. The waiter immediately took it off our bill and seriously because it was just good and not great.
Mochi- pretty standard. I wanted the banana but my daughter wanted the mochi. Oh well, there’s always paradise :j
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING MEAL. Thank you, thank you! Sushi is perfection.
We shared a roll , hamachi kama , and appetizer.
The roll was not very good. Rice was not on point. Fish was lacking. For the price ,16 dollars, we expected more.
The hamachi kama was great and so was the appetizer but felt like it should have been served with rice.
Service was good. Very nice waitress.
For the price i feel there are better places.
