Martyrs Steakhouse is Taos gem built inside a gorgeous historic adobe building that gives off a charming and relaxing vibe. Inside, the clean white table clothes and polished wooden floors provide a fantastic backdrop for the delicious steaks and other dishes served at Martyrs Steakhouse.
Choose your cut of high-quality beef steak and have it cooked to your specifications. Surf and turf is also available with a beef filet and lobster tail combination meal. If you don't want steak, you can order chicken, fish, duck, burgers, seafood or portabella dishes, instead. Various seasonal vegetables complement your meal. When you're done with the meal, grab a cocktail from the Martyrs Steakhouse Honey Locust Bar, or sip a fine wine or popular beer while you are dining.
There is an understated attentiveness that combined to make this an enjoyable meal in an attractive setting. The food was fine, not ourstanding. We would certainly return when we are in town again.
Ribeye steak is reasonably priced but not the quality we were expecting for that price. Calamari was also average and would not order it again.
Probably the best restaurant on Taos. From Hostess, to waitress to bartender, they were all very polite and professional. The service was excellent, & food outstanding. We tried the Bison options, which were both delicious.
Wonderful time, as always, at Martyr's. We always bring our visitors here and this time we brought a foodie who placed his experience in the top three of his life! The service was superb. The ambiance is always a pleasure to experience. We will be back again. And again. And again.
This place exceeded our expectations in all categories. Our lamb and beef entrees were perfectly cooked and came with delicious vegetable and grain accompaniments, beautifully presented. Service was attentive, and we loved the art and decor surrounding us.
Food here was very disappointing -- quality of steak -- plus special
fish entree. Service was outstanding! Wonderful view sitting outside
which combined mountains to the north and sunset to the southwest.
The outdoor dining was very pleasant. It was a bit noisy because the outside dining is on the main street. The heaters and umbrella lights made the evening pleasant as the sun went down. I had the chicken confit which was delicious. Two members of our party had the halibut special. They both thought the fish was overcooked and mushy, but they thought the soft shell crab was perfect.
We have eaten here a couple of times and always enjoyed the food and service. Not sure what happened this time, but my wife and I both ordered the lamb chops, which we both ordered medium. What we recieved instead were what I can truthfully say were the toughest lamb chops that I had ever eaten. They did comp us dessert, but by then I was too exhausted from fighting with the "ram" chops to even eat it there, so we took it back to our hotel.
This attractive and convenient place was highly recommended by our hotel. It starts out great in terms of greeting, ambience, menu and wine list. It, for us, went downhill quickly. Very friendly, but very slow, service followed by inappropriate temperatures of wines. An excellent salad was followed by mains that were much better on the menu than on the plate. The components described on the menu were,in fact, present on the plate but underdone on one red meat dish, overdone on another and finished with no apparent attention. For example:grilled mushrooms accompanying bison tenderloin were probably good mushrooms. BUT, dry grilled with no oil, butter, seasoning or anything yielded mushroom jerky. It is, however, a very nice place with an impressive menu and prices to match.
My colleague and I made reservations for a business dinner (mid week) and arrived about 15 minutes prior to our reservation time. We parked and went in what we thought was the front door. It turned out to be the back or side door. We met the bartender first and he was very helpful.
The bartender found the person who was to guide us to the table and engaged us in conversation until the person was able to guide us to our table.
Once we arrived at our table the server approached and introduced herself. She provided menu's, the wine list and went over a few of the specials. We then ordered our bottle of wine and an appetizer or two. Now the waiting began.
We were visited several times over the next 50 minutes by the gentleman who refilled our water. He was the most attentive of all of the staff with the exception of the bartender. We never received our wine or the appetizers. We were either ignored or forgotten about by our server and the rest of our staffed. Either way we didn't see our server for 50 minutes. Finally we were frustrated enough that we moved ourselves to the bar and ended up having dinner at the bar.
We ordered two small plates to start: Steak Tartare and Raw Blue Point Oysters. From there the bartender suggested we try one of their house wines by the glass (it was excellent) and I ordered the 8oz filet and garlic mashed potatoes. The food was very good. The food is a bit over priced for what we received - but my opinion may have been a bit jaded due to the extremely poor service earlier in the evening.
This review is greatly impacted by the initial poor service and the lack of attention by the entire staff with the exception of the bartender who was excellent!
I would visit this location again to give them a chance to redeem themselves but that is the only reason I would go back. Given the higher prices and poor service it simply isn't the type of establishment that I would choose to frequent often.
