Martin's Ratings and Reviews
Server wasn’t great and food was kinda eh. Fixed menus sometimes have this affect. Also the bottle of wine we selected had a dry cork, the server said “the cork breaks on all these bottles” little did she know the wine had essentially gone bad. To no fault of her own, but this trend should Have been noticed and tended to. Would try again on a regular night I guess
I'm a local, and if you're looking for a classy happy hour spot, with a great wine list, martinis and tapas, then this is the spot. But if you're considering anything beyond that, then I recommend, you pass on Martin's.
You can chill drinks by how cold the bartender and most of the wait staff are. Once we were finally seated, our waiter turned out to be the exception. Aside from him, don't expect the staff to be very inviting. The night featured a $125 per person "Special Four Course menu", which wasn't necessarily special as it just featured a couple selections from their existing menu. The opening chef's amuse bouche was a small potato pancake with cream cheese and caviar on top. The caviar brine flavor complimented the acidity well. Then I had the crab cake appetizer, and thought it was well put together; it wasn't overloaded with bread crumbs and fried like you would find at most places. It was light and a good starter to set the stage. My entree was the beef filet. Good cut of meat, but the preparation and accompaniment wasn't anything to write home about. Bearnaise was bland and offered little on the plate other than color. The broccoli, was well, just broccoli. I ordered the Creme Brûlée for dessert and it was satisfying; hard to mess up custard with brûléed sugar on top.
Glancing at their regular menu after the fact, I could have pieced the same meal together for less than $65. My wife's meal would have come out $79. The only special menu feature was the minuscule potato pancake. There was no wine or champagne included in the $125 per person charge. There was in fact, nothing special at all about their menu.
Friday evening dinner for two reserved a week in advance. Requested outside seating with a pet. Seated quickly at a table out of the way. Waiter did bring water for our dog. Menu was mediocre, as was the food. Filet was a bit tough and with no proper steak knife it was difficult to cut. Small vegetable servings. Service during and after meal was so-so. Patio was so dark I couldn't read the bill. Not sure if I left an appropriate tip or not. Will not return as there are so many better places to eat in Key West.
I wanted to go to Martin's on Duval after my wedding- and watch the annual Key West Christmas parade. I made the reservation on Open Table the day it became available, and asked very clearly for their patio seating, which gives a great view of the street. That didn't happen. We arrived on time to find 2 larger parties occupying those tables. I guess first-come-first-serve doesn't apply here. We were seated inside, but next to the front window where we could still see the parade.
Our server was a little occupied, but no one else came to our table anytime soon to take a drink order. I ordered lobster caribe, $36. I was a good size, but tough and not succulent. No sauce or melted butter offered. my spouse felt that the mushrooms on his dish were canned.
Dessert time- our waiter brought menus, then went outside to watch the parade. He wasn't gone long, but right in front of us? Outside our window? Something just seems a little off about that. This restaurant used to be five stores last time I visited three years ago. I can see now why the rating has gone down. Wouldn't return.
Once again, my partner and I enjoyed a delightful meal at Martin's. The choice of starters and entrees along with the presentation and table service is among the best in KW and rivals places we frequent in NYC. We enjoy Martin's whether eating inside or outside.
We had a wonderful dinner at Martin‘s tonight. Our server, Nikolai, was awesome. Very attentive to us throughout the evening and offered good advice regarding the food. I had the fillet which was cooked medium and was delicious. My wife had the lobster and she said it was very good as well. We felt it was a great ambience and would definitely return. By the way, they have happy hour every day from 4 PM to 6 PM, half-price appetizers and martinis
Never eat here!!! This was our first trip to Key West! We have had great food and service everywhere we visited down here until we are here.. service was the worst we have had in years!! When we went to management about it he disregarded all comments. We hVe worked it the restaurant and bar service in the past and we could not believe the total disregard for our comments! Disgusting to say the very least!! Save your tips and appetite for another place! There are lots to chice from!! Chrrrtr
We are pretty sure our waiter was drunk. He kept calling our 16 year old daughter sweetie in an odd sort of way and slurring his words. When we asked questions about the menu his response was...aaaaahhhhh ummm I'll go check. The steaks were great, but the fish was mediocre at best which was a total disappointment for $35+.
Great dinner. Looked forward to it all weekend. The server was great and answered every question. The wine menu can be very intimidating but the server walked us through it. The temps of the steaks could have been a little more accurate considering the price, but still worth the money.
