Martins West Pub
We take pride in being a gastropub. To us, it means taking our food seriously, but not ourselves. It means serving refined food in a cozy pub atmosphere. We’re happy to take advantage of Northern California’s bounty of local produce, fish and meats to bring you seasonal dishes alongside classic pub fare year round.

I'd heard such wonderful things about this place, including the food and cocktails. Unfortunately, the octopus tasted fishy and not fresh (never even knew octopus could taste that way!), and while the other dishes we had were ok, they weren't great. My "dry" cocktail was quite sweet. I'd probably go back for the oysters at happy hour and have dinner elsewhere. Since it was Monday, maybe that's why the octopus was bad, but yuck!
The food is outstanding - so is the ambience. It is often too loud to have conversations without having to scream at each other. I have been there several times - service times are fluctuating... sometimes it is stellar, other times it is *very* slow
Delicious. Great selection of whiskey. A little pricey though
Excellent food and great service! Get the Scotch Eggs and Octopus!
Creative menu with interesting flavor profiles.
I really wanted to like this place since the menu looks great, there’s a good selection of wines and whiskeys, and some clever cocktails, and the decor is just right for a pub supper. It seems like the kind of place you would go when you have no special plans but feel like going out. Unfortunately the noise level on Friday night was off the charts. Worse, our food was salted to the point of being almost inedible, especially the Brussels sprouts and Main St. Corn ;the lamb sliders were tasty but also needlessly over salted. Maybe it was just a bad night? We should have sent the food back but we were hungry and didn’t want to make a fuss. We left feeling like our lips were burning from the salt. Please kitchen- take it easy with the salt shaker! I’d love to come back on a quieter evening and try again!
Good food, limited menu, server kept making errors about gluten allergy and already out of items at 7:00 pm.
Excellent service and great food! We ate family style so we could try more items. Great spot for larger groups.
My friend and I went for small bites/early dinner before a show. I was excited to try this restaurant as I saw it reviewed on Check Please. I was very disappointed. The wine I was served was past prime. I returned it, but was charged $20.00 for one 4 oz. pour of Justin Cabernet! Most of the food, such as the Brussel Sprouts and grilled shrimp were WAY over salted and over spiced. On top of all that, even though the restaurant was not crowded (we came at 4:30 pm!) we were rushed by the waiter and service staff who kept trying to take our plates before we were finished eating three times (note: we were out of there by 5:30 pm!). The only good part of the experience was the $1.00 oysters for happy hour. Don’t think that will be enough to bring me back with all of the other restaurant choices in that area.
Good downtown Redwood City location. Nice choice of Beers. Less than average food. The lamburger had no flavor. Also quite Pricey for what you get.
Very friendly and helpful staff. A real neighborhood joint that is a pleasurable experience.
One of our favorite go-to places. I miss the former menu. Not as pleased with the small plate format.
This review is for the lunch hour. It was pretty quiet.
Excellent selection of scotch and whiskey. The food was wonderful, I had the Shepard pies, octopus salad, and beef sliders. Topped it off with cookies and ice cream! Will be back!
Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the beers on the menu, and the food was very flavorful. The noise level was a bit on the loud side, but I was still able to carry on a conversation with my dinner companion.
Everything was great! Missed an order of one dish but they took it off the bill. Service was top-notch.
Delicious albeit hearty food in very loud but festive atmosphere.
Went for lunch with 2 others. There was no one in the restaurant on a Thursday at 12:30. That should have told me something. All you could tasted on the Veal burger was the Blue Cheese. Finally took the blue cheese off. French fries were OK
I've been to Martin's West often, and I love their earl grey gintini and fries. My company had a party here once and the little tapas and charcuterie plates were very good. Last Friday I had dinner with friends and ordered the fish 'n chips (the cod on the menu); it was VERY good. Probably one of the best fish 'n chips I've had. Great tartar sauce and a brown vinegar with it. The grilled octopus over (I think black ink rice or risotto) was very good as well. I would recommend Martin's West.
Lively and crowded for a Tuesday night. The food is good but the portions are small and the wait staff is stretched thin. It took 30 minutes to serve up a cheese plate and let us know the pumpkin fritters we ordered were out. They no longer serve entrees, only small plates.
We had not been to Martin's West in quite awhile as the food was not appealing to me, I am a picky eater and although I like Pub Food some of the menu went renegade.
The menu has changed since the last time we were there.
I had asked for a quiet table and they sat us next to a birthday party with kids so were awed about that.
The servers are wonderful people and everyone is friendly and the make it pleasurable.
great time, great food and great cocktails. What more can you ask for?
Martins West formerly was a great foodie restaurant. Alas, it has declined.
We had a great early evening. Sharing oysters, rabbit pate, yummy deviled eggs, perfect bone marrow and then the Devonshire Cream and cake.... to die for!!
We would highly recommend everything except the rabbit pate, which was pretty bland.
Watching all the other food going past us and looking good...sliders, etc made us know we would be back to try more items.
Our waiter was very on top of all the tables he was handling..a true professional!
Worth a trip to Redwood City.
My husband and I went to Martin's West for a date night. Excellent cocktails and small plates. We had the pickle plate, the fried green tomatoes, the fried cod and the fried chicken sliders, and then the sticky toffee pudding and chocolate chip cookies for dessert, and everything was first rate. The waitress was very attentive. We were seated in the back of the restaurant at a "low top" table, but as the bar filled up it got pretty noisy. But all in all a great night out.
Our server was friendly and attentive. We had the happy hour oysters, pork belly toast and octopus. The oysters were good but the pork belly and octopus were mediocre. In fact we didn’t see much pork belly and the octopus has a semi-sweet sauce, which was weird.
Was not packed at all so the service was great! Made it in time for happy hour with our group. Sat us right by the window since there were no outdoor seating. Yum!
Overpriced small plates. Slider plates were $12-14 for TWO sliders. That's $7 per slider. You can get a whole burger for that elsewhere.
Most stuff was too spicy. My young daughters didn't like the sliders because of that. Thank goodness the Mac-n-Cheese was a hit with them.
Waiter got scarce when it started getting busy. Good service otherwise.
Food was ok, nothing special. Servings small for the price. Left hungry
Martin's West has great food (mostly a la cart fancy pub food) and an amazing drink selection (beers, whiskey, cocktails). The room is always very loud, no sound dampening and even with only a few other guests can be a high noise level. Visually it has a nice cozy bar feel with good décor and nice nooks and booths for private dining. Highly recommended for dates and happy hour.
Great food, unique and delicious! Great overall experience.
Good food but $11 for three tater tots with some meat on them is pushing it.
I've been here a number of times for drinks or dinner, but this was the first time I came for lunch. We were celebrating a friend's birthday, and it was the perfect venue! Service was friendly and quick, noise level was low so that we could have a great catch-up conversation, food was delicious and priced well, and we LOVED the toffee dessert. If it weren't the middle of the day (i.e., still had to pick up kids at school!), we might have had a cocktail or two -- always yummy at this place. Happy we chose Martins West.
Great service, liquor selection (scotch in particular) is outstanding. Food is okay. Chef’s take on chicken pie (deconstructed) is a bit too much...looks good but ends up being chicken with some carrots and other veggies.
Limited menu. Terrible battered Cod.
It took a long time for our server to come to our table. They were not busy at all. When she came, I specifically asked her about whether a particular sauce contained dairy. She told us twice that it did not, that it was just a glaze. The food took 30 minutes to reach our table, again, they were not busy. They could have at least brought the salad out first. When I tried the sauce, I was not convinced it was dairy free. I went to the cooks station and inquired about the sauce. Turns out it is a butter-based sauce. I don’t think it’s too much to expect that the servers know about the ingredients in the food they serve. It’s not like the food menu is extensive. Food was so-so, very simple, but not worth the cost.
Gift certificate did not work. Very dissappointing.
We went to Martin's for a pre Fox Theater show. We sat at the bar for a few apps and drinks. the bartenders and drinks were good.
We were sat in the back which was an empty area, at least it was quiet, but we missed out on the ambience of the front restaurant and better lighting.
The food was just not good. It feels like they are trying to have a modern menu with unique ingredients and blending, but it just didn't work. the veggies were limp, my husbands burger was over done even though he ordered medium rare, my sister's fries came 20 min before our meal (were supposed to be part of the meal) and she had to have them returned to be re-heated when her meal came. the kitchen was slow and we had to track down the waitress for the bill.
Had a great time - girl’s night out to watch the KU game at the bar. Michael, the bartender/server, was fabulous. Great cocktail (“Spring Break”), Tandoori Fries ❤️, asparagus and lamb burgers. Loved the vibe - relaxed. A great experience all the way around.
