Martine Cafe Ratings and Reviews
I have wanted to eat here for years and so wanted to love it, but it was disappointing. Brussels sprouts were awesome, but other tapas just so so — and we left hungry free getting several things. Bread or paiea to help fill you up would have been appreciated. On the positive side, the house drink was delicious.
Food was amazing, service impeccable. Went there for anniversary, staff did not rush, when we were ready for next course, it came at the right time. Lamb and hummus was savory, goat cheese asparagus and potatoe bisque was light and almost tart, good balance of flavors. Charcuterie board had black cherry, roasted almonds, nice variety of cheeses. Roasted Brussels sprouts were best I gave ever had, for $6! If they seasoned asphalt shingles this good you would eat every bite. Mushroom toast was a subtle blend of honey, firm lush mushrooms. Lemon dessert was the perfect finish.
My pork tenderloin was undercooked. The waiter took it back and brought me another plate that was cooked perfectly and tasted very good. However, my husband had the strip steak, and said it was really tough and he had trouble cutting it. We had eaten at Martine before and not had these problems.
Martine is an excellent option for pre-theater dining. Right next door to the Eccles Theater, with convenient parking across the street at City Creek. Always surprised there are not more people dining there before the shows. Great food with tasty Tapas, new American cuisine, prix fixe menu, and great drink list.
We had great service but the food was waaaaay too salty. Think tablespoons of salt instead of teaspoons. The music was a little funny too - a little too upbeat considering our dining area was filled with mostly couples having quiet conversations. On the plus side, terrific servers and delicious bread pudding.
Martine remains one of my favorite Salt Lake City restaurants. I love the options the menu has to offer from small plates to full course dinners. The $40 three course menu was tempting but we were on our way to the ballet so we didn't feel like we had time to fully enjoy it, which means we will be returning soon.
Martine is just lovely. I feel like I'm back in New York City, sitting in a brownstone and Jazz is playing and people are enjoying delicious hand crafted food, feeling totally engaged in their conversations. The booths are tall and you feel like you are the only ones there.
This was a special birthday lunch for a friend and though it was all fine, it lacked the 'something special ' I was hoping for. Thy did not have desserts which I understand for a mostly downtown business lunch place but had hoped....
I love Martine's in the evening but the lunch was not particularly exciting and I wouldn't travel downtown to go there again
We found this gem by chance. It was perfect for business, conversation. The food was fantastic, the wine list was small but very adequate to our needs and tastes, including a near-winesnob. It would be fantastic for a small group or intimate date, also. We were visiting, but noted the restaurant had several tables of "regulars" who were enthusiastic about "their" restaurant. i would be so lucky to have such a gem located near me!
We have been her twice and every time the food is outstanding! This restaurant offers main entrees as well as small plates that allow you to mix and match a meal. They also offer special cocktails and have an excellent wine menu. The ambience offers nice private areas as well as room for larger groups. The wait staff are friendly and helpful and we were able to eat quickly enough to make it to the theatre on time.
Don't let one disappointed diner keep you away. Martine has become our go-to place before the theatre and we haven't been disappointed. We like the variety, ambiance, great wait staff and location. My husband is very picky and always finds something he likes. He also tends to complain about prices but not at Martine. One of the few truly romantic settings left in downtown Salt Lake City.
We requested to sit in a nice secluded booth for two. It made the dining so personal and private. However, there were small tables very close to each other and here it is louder and I would not want to sit there. We had excellent service and never felt like we were waiting to be tended to. Drinks, silverware and dinner served with perfect timing. I was even 15 min late and called to check if we would still be served. There was no pressure which took the frustration off.
I’ve eaten here before twice on trips to Salt Lake and enjoyed it, but the food and wine were even better than I remembered last Friday. Our group of five tried a variety of imaginative dishes, and everyone raved about their choices. My duck breast was the best I’ve ever tasted! We ordered modestly priced wines that were excellent. The waiter was knowledgeable and friendly. My one reservation was that the waitstaff were a bit eager to clear our plates.
Went for the dine-o-round, but ended up mostly ordering from the regular menu since it all looked delicious, and definitely exceeded our expectations. Generous portion sizes. The pork belly appetizer, prosciutto-wrapped pork entree, and lemon posset dessert were our favorites.
