The staff was friendly and prompt with service. All of the food was incredible. We had a great evening.
Martine is always good. I can't believe that the place is near empty on Theater nights. Good for last minute reservations, but I know the places around it are full of people. Strange.
We went to Martine for a belated Valentines Day dinner. We used to dine there a few times a year, but haven't been there in a year or two. We were pleasantly surprised that the portions seemed bigger this visit and also that there is an upstairs area to dine in! Our server was wonderful and the food was amazing. No complaints!
Always my favorite date night restaurant. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, literally anything. My beverage was top notch, loved the lamb shank and the gluten-free chocolate cake was divine. Although the pork belly wasn’t my favorite preparation this time with the hot sauce/chicken week type take. I would recommend to switch back to the last preparation and bring back the green goddess salad. Minor tweaks for an amazing restaurant. And thank you to Dan for the casual and easy going service. You were awesome!
It's a delightful place for a romantic dinner, with a charming atmosphere and well prepared meals.
food selection is quite limited. It used to be much better.
My husband took me out for a late Valentine’s Day dinner. I’d been there a couple times for lunch years ago.
I was looking forward to the cauliflower soup but it wasn’t on the menu that night so I had the tomato basil which was awesome.
I already knew I would have the Steak/frites for my entree. The cut of the day was a New York strip. I ordered it rare and that part was prefect. What wasn’t was the strip of fat that was left on the steak—I know about marbling and all that, but I trim that fat off when I grilled NY steak. I eventually cut it off because it was so annoying and was taking away from my enjoyment of a perfect rare steak to encounter fat and grizzle in every bite but it wasn’t easy to mange in dim restaurant lights. For that reason I only made it thru half my meat. I brought home the other half and sliced it thin for salad. There was quite a bit of marbleing which was easier to trim off in my kitchen.
The fries were good but I could have done without the shredded cheese on top.
I usually pass on dessert but made an exception that night and am I glad I did. The Lemon Cosset (custard) was out of this world. The amount of lemon flavor was perfect. I would go back just for it.
We went to Martine for Valentines Day. Major disappointment! The chef must have had plans because for 65.00 each and a pre fixe menu (which we were not advised), the food was crap. Everything was sub par. They tried to pass off buffalo wing sauce (seriously with blue cheese and celery and carrots) on the pork belly and the Hawaiian fish was so over cooked I thought it had been sunburned during a really bad vacation. My husband asked for a medium steak and it was so rare it was cold and bloody. Inedible for him and anyone unless they were eating a nice wagyu. The best thing on our menu was the whipped cream on the dessert - and I don’t really like sugar. I’m sure the desserts were purchased from somewhere else and not made by the chef. The place smelled like an old smoky bar and we will not be back.
We went for Valentine's Day. I had checked the menu in advance and felt we would select either a la carte or the price fixed menu. When we arrived, the standard a la carte menu was not an option, and only a modified price fixed menu was offered. It had gone from $40 to $65 with an added course and we had not been notified in advance and it was entirely too much food.
Martine is in lovely old two stories building in downtown Salt Lake City. Just visiting is a worthy experience. We were immediately sat down and our server quickly took our order and opened the bottle of champagne we brought. The corkage fee is very reasonable. The menu at Martine tends to be rich in nature. Not for those who what to eat lean.
We both started with the Gem Lettuces salad which was fresh and very good, but rich due to the bleu cheese. Next my partner had the Cauliflower and I had the Fried Brussels Sprouts. The Cauliflower was very spicy which either you could eat or not. It was really too spicy for the both of us. The Fried Brussels Sprouts are a trendy item and were good, but not exceptional. Now, we were both feeling fairly well fed. For entrees. my partner had the Hawaiian Monchong which lies on lovely bed of quinoa and tabouleh hummus. The Monchong was nicely prepared, but not our favorite fish. It has very fishy flavor and there were no other fish offerings which limited my partner on this visit and for future visits. I had the Bone-In Pork Loin which was fantastic. It was presented on a bed of cheddar grits (again rich in nature). The grits were just too much. It was too rich and too much food. For desert my partner had the Chocolate Decadence which had a very good grade of chocolate, but was a bit hard and reminded us of a chocolate bar. I had the Grilled Gergerbread which again was very rich.
Great service, good food, limited menu, and just too heavy in nature.
The food has changed a lot since my last visit when everything deserved a five star rating. The clientele must be the reason, Eccles Theatre dîners looking for bargains. It’s a real shame, it’s been a great place for many years.
The service was very good
The menu was very short so not a lot of options. The food was decent but nothing amazing. The wine list, however, was fairly impressive.
Always a great, comfortable space, and a great value in the inflated world of fine dining. Wines are fairly priced, as are entree and other menu items. Sometimes having been around for a long time dulls the perspective, as folks keep chasing trends and new places open and close, but Martine, while not yet old enough to be venerable, is a standard for downtown consistency, quality and value that not many of the trendy places can meet. Great Osso Buco, interesting soups and appetizer, tasty wine-by-the-glass, the always- wonderful grilled gingerbread dessert, and excellent team service, all for a very fair price in a very comfortable, quiet (what a concept!) atmosphere. Who needs more than that?
Service was great. Accommodating with 4 year old. No kids menu but the chef was open to making something simple.
Food was disappointing. Basil tomato soup tasted like it had mint in it. French onion was average. Salad was too vinegary. Burger was subpar. The fish dish was okay. French fries weren’t good.
Very good service and the special that night was also very good. However, the burger was not worth the price.
ONCE AGAIN A GREAT PLACE TO DINE. WE TOOK OUR DAUGHTER FOR HER BIRTHDAY (OUR SON WAS IN NEVADA RACING) AND HAD A FABULOUS TIME. DAN WAS OUR WAITER AGAIN.... WHAT A GREAT GUY. WILL BE BACK FOR THEIR VALENTINE DINNER SPECIAL....
Amazing food. New menu with creative dishes. Great service. Always excellent!
Great food. Not your standard restaurant or menu. Unique experience, stop going chains and enjoy dining out.
Excellent small plate variety, subtle flavors and a beautiful blend of options for all dietary restrictions. The Duck Confit was extraordinary and was served with an Opinel Knife,a wonderful example of their attention to detail. The food was excellent.
The food was delicious and the service attentive and friendly.
I loved the Brussels sprouts and cauliflower soup! The broccoli was great too, a little spicy!
We have been going to Martine Cafe since 1997 when we both worked in Salt Lake City. The service was superb (Dan) and the food was great as always.
Service and Food fantastic!
Staff super engaging and friendly
Music selection Deplorable
Prix fixe menu excellent!
Concerned about main menu in the future should we return if it is to limiting.
Our best visit yet! Family was in town and we wanted to take them to a local restaurant within walking distance of the Christmas lights. The service was exceptional from the moment we walked in. We selected four small plates to share. "Small" is an inaccurate adjective, as the portions were generous. The cauliflower and brussell sprouts plates were each roasted to perfection. The cauliflower was sweet while the sprouts had a nice tang from the capers and lemon. The gnocchi bolognese consisted of soft pillows of pasta accompanied by a bolognese that tasted of fresh-picked tomatoes. Our last plate was the avocado tostada. Again, the word "fresh" comes to mind with this dish. The avocado was perfectly ripe with just the right amount of cliantro lime. Although we were full, we couldn't pass up the desserts. Again, we tried a few of them, including the toasted gingerbread with ice cream, fried doughnuts, and a lemon posset. Simple and delicious. We will keep coming back!
Very convenient for Eccles shows. Good service. Decent food but a little pricey. Beautiful building. I would probably go back if I had show tickets!
This restaurant was a great find — my first time. Great food and service was perfect — attentive without being intrusive. I had the salmon, and a wonderful salad. Both were good.
We wanted to Eat at a romantic restaurant before our show and saw some great reviews for this restaurant. Wonderful place! My wife is pretty conservative with food choices but I like the bit more adventurous and this was the perfect place. Food was delicious and plating was beautiful. Staff was very eager to please and never far. Came at 5 and was pleased to see it had filled up nicely by the time we left. We will be back!
Service was good, sea food excellent, close and intimate night out. Always a special place away from the big chain restaurants.
Service and location were great. My food was cold to touch. Tasted good, but not warm. Wasn’t sure why because it wasn’t very busy. The fixed price menu option was a great value. The gingerbread dessert was amazing.
We used to love Martine and their fabulous small plates. During our recent visit the gnocchi bolognese had 4 gnocchi. The salmon salad had some weird gelatin paste but no salmon, pork belly fair. Only great meal was the steak. Are not in a hurry to return.
Loved the food but the service was disappointing. I ordered the prix fixe menu but the server forgot and never brought the dessert. We didn’t see him for quite a while and by the time we did, it was past the time we needed to leave so we no longer had time. He refunded the dessert portion but I would much rather have had the opportunity to eat it since it looked delicious!
We go often when downtown for events as we are not fond of the other walkable options ie Hotel food and salad bars.
Always like the salads and fish and have loved some seasonal dishes. Our friends go for the pasta.
Family getting together for Christmas. Walking through Temple Square to see the lights. Going to the Tabernacle Choir concert with Kristin Chenoweth.
It's always nice having dinner at Martine. It was especially nice on a very busy Friday night in Salt Lake City.
The bustling atmosphere outside and the hushed silence entering Martine made for a nice arrival.
Dan was our waitstaff and could not have been more energetic.
Starting the night with a few appetizers, the Avocado Tostada is always a favourite, our selections were the Pork Tenderloin and the Steak Frites. My guest had the Steak and I was lucky enough to have the Pork Tenderloin, which exceeded all expectations for it's creative use of prawns. The flavours were like a ride on the Orient Express.
As I brought a bottle of wine that I had been cellaring, I did not need the wine list, but it was extensive.
The restaurant was busy, yet the experience once again, is why this a gem of a dinner experience.
We were on a very tight time schedule and our waiter made and extraordinary effort to make sure we had our food in time to make our Eccles performance.
Our experience was wonderful! Excellent service, food and ambiance!
Perfect place for a gourmet dinner before the theater and symphony.
Small plates were all excellent. Brisket Burger and pork tenderloin we also outstanding. Elk was tough.
This place is perfect if you are going to the Eccles theater. It's so tasty and the atmosphere is great. In a historic building in a perfect spot! The food is tasty and the service was so fast!
