The FOOD is the star at Martine. It's absolutely delicious! The service at our first visit was outstanding. The service at our second visit was lacking - not what I expect for fine dining.
Great setting for a meal. Outstanding entrées and desert. Will be back.
Loved the Moroccan lamb that was very tender and full of flavor
Terrible food. Very nice staff. We won’t be back. I wonder what is going trough the chef’s head when a simple appetizer consisting of brussel sprouts has been rendered unedible. Mine were soaking in caper juice from the jar that shot my blood pressure up. It was listed under appetizer section not under the soup. My husband’s roasted beets were terrible as well. No flavor, served ice cold, not worthy of another bite. Such a travesty, when they seemed to have the nicest staff, both, the hostess and our server Carlos, were wonderful and softened the way we felt about this place after the dinner. We did not have any entrees, because the apetizers scared us away.
Martine has excellent food, excellent service, and an excellent environment. It's in a perfect location for dinner before a downtown show or time out with friends. We love it!
The clams were the best, the steak perfect!
I love the white wine mussels and clam soup
Expected more based on the pictures of their dishes. Tasted like chef trained in the 90’s.
Lamb shank Fatty
Limited menu choices. Did not have the same menu as posted on website. Very disappointing
Went here for lunch. Maybe this place is better for appetizers/tapas, because our appetizer of arancini was delicious. But our entrees, particularly a chicken sandwich and an arugula chicken salad, were not very good, particularly for the price. The chicken tasted like it had been sitting in a warming drawer for a while. We also found the booth to be too dark. Would not return.
The food was stylishly présented and perfectly prepared. Clearly, the chef and entire staff take great pride in hosting a fantastic dining adventure.
Menu looks good, but food quality is uneven. Braised lamb good but not great. My companions said some dishes were odd tasting (broccoli rabe, pork belly).
Great food. Don’t laugh at the burger. It is amazing.
All of Scott's restaurants are worthy of repeated visitation.
This was my second trip to Martine and the first for my husband. We enjoyed every second of it. The tomato basil soup was perfectly seasoned and the serving size was just right. We both had the brisket and were amazed at the flavor and tenderness of the meat. The cream sauce that it was served with was divine. Our deserts were equally as good. We were served quickly and the food was very fresh. We will go again and I recommend this place for a cozy evening out without breaking the bank.
I've been to this restaurant a number of times. I always experience excellent service and great food. As it's just an easy walk from the Eccles, Martine is our favorite restaurant for a pre-performance dinner.
Best food I’ve had in a long time! Everything from appetizers to dessert were divine! Will definitely return soon!
Always great before the Theatre. Specials never fail to delight. Pork was fabulous
Our server Jonathan was fantastic. Will request his section from now on!
Great place to go for a date night. Their food is incredible and we have been back a number of times.
What happened to Martin..or perhaps they were just having a bad night? The ambiance is lovely, the people friendly. The food and service in the past has always been excellent...BUT, not tonight. The seasoning was off and not well balanced, the pork belly was tough (is that even possible), it didn't help that it was cold. The used dishes sat on the table for over thirty minutes, and even continued to sit there after our apparantly clueless waiter brought out desert menus and set them on top of the dirty dishes...really. It was so off I have to wonder, something must be going on. Used to be a gem, I hope they can regroup and get back on target
The staff was friendly and prompt with service. All of the food was incredible. We had a great evening.
Martine is always good. I can't believe that the place is near empty on Theater nights. Good for last minute reservations, but I know the places around it are full of people. Strange.
We went to Martine for a belated Valentines Day dinner. We used to dine there a few times a year, but haven't been there in a year or two. We were pleasantly surprised that the portions seemed bigger this visit and also that there is an upstairs area to dine in! Our server was wonderful and the food was amazing. No complaints!
Always my favorite date night restaurant. You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, literally anything. My beverage was top notch, loved the lamb shank and the gluten-free chocolate cake was divine. Although the pork belly wasn’t my favorite preparation this time with the hot sauce/chicken week type take. I would recommend to switch back to the last preparation and bring back the green goddess salad. Minor tweaks for an amazing restaurant. And thank you to Dan for the casual and easy going service. You were awesome!
It's a delightful place for a romantic dinner, with a charming atmosphere and well prepared meals.
food selection is quite limited. It used to be much better.
My husband took me out for a late Valentine’s Day dinner. I’d been there a couple times for lunch years ago.
I was looking forward to the cauliflower soup but it wasn’t on the menu that night so I had the tomato basil which was awesome.
I already knew I would have the Steak/frites for my entree. The cut of the day was a New York strip. I ordered it rare and that part was prefect. What wasn’t was the strip of fat that was left on the steak—I know about marbling and all that, but I trim that fat off when I grilled NY steak. I eventually cut it off because it was so annoying and was taking away from my enjoyment of a perfect rare steak to encounter fat and grizzle in every bite but it wasn’t easy to mange in dim restaurant lights. For that reason I only made it thru half my meat. I brought home the other half and sliced it thin for salad. There was quite a bit of marbleing which was easier to trim off in my kitchen.
The fries were good but I could have done without the shredded cheese on top.
I usually pass on dessert but made an exception that night and am I glad I did. The Lemon Cosset (custard) was out of this world. The amount of lemon flavor was perfect. I would go back just for it.
We went to Martine for Valentines Day. Major disappointment! The chef must have had plans because for 65.00 each and a pre fixe menu (which we were not advised), the food was crap. Everything was sub par. They tried to pass off buffalo wing sauce (seriously with blue cheese and celery and carrots) on the pork belly and the Hawaiian fish was so over cooked I thought it had been sunburned during a really bad vacation. My husband asked for a medium steak and it was so rare it was cold and bloody. Inedible for him and anyone unless they were eating a nice wagyu. The best thing on our menu was the whipped cream on the dessert - and I don’t really like sugar. I’m sure the desserts were purchased from somewhere else and not made by the chef. The place smelled like an old smoky bar and we will not be back.
We went for Valentine's Day. I had checked the menu in advance and felt we would select either a la carte or the price fixed menu. When we arrived, the standard a la carte menu was not an option, and only a modified price fixed menu was offered. It had gone from $40 to $65 with an added course and we had not been notified in advance and it was entirely too much food.
Martine is in lovely old two stories building in downtown Salt Lake City. Just visiting is a worthy experience. We were immediately sat down and our server quickly took our order and opened the bottle of champagne we brought. The corkage fee is very reasonable. The menu at Martine tends to be rich in nature. Not for those who what to eat lean.
We both started with the Gem Lettuces salad which was fresh and very good, but rich due to the bleu cheese. Next my partner had the Cauliflower and I had the Fried Brussels Sprouts. The Cauliflower was very spicy which either you could eat or not. It was really too spicy for the both of us. The Fried Brussels Sprouts are a trendy item and were good, but not exceptional. Now, we were both feeling fairly well fed. For entrees. my partner had the Hawaiian Monchong which lies on lovely bed of quinoa and tabouleh hummus. The Monchong was nicely prepared, but not our favorite fish. It has very fishy flavor and there were no other fish offerings which limited my partner on this visit and for future visits. I had the Bone-In Pork Loin which was fantastic. It was presented on a bed of cheddar grits (again rich in nature). The grits were just too much. It was too rich and too much food. For desert my partner had the Chocolate Decadence which had a very good grade of chocolate, but was a bit hard and reminded us of a chocolate bar. I had the Grilled Gergerbread which again was very rich.
Great service, good food, limited menu, and just too heavy in nature.
The food has changed a lot since my last visit when everything deserved a five star rating. The clientele must be the reason, Eccles Theatre dîners looking for bargains. It’s a real shame, it’s been a great place for many years.
The service was very good
The menu was very short so not a lot of options. The food was decent but nothing amazing. The wine list, however, was fairly impressive.
Always a great, comfortable space, and a great value in the inflated world of fine dining. Wines are fairly priced, as are entree and other menu items. Sometimes having been around for a long time dulls the perspective, as folks keep chasing trends and new places open and close, but Martine, while not yet old enough to be venerable, is a standard for downtown consistency, quality and value that not many of the trendy places can meet. Great Osso Buco, interesting soups and appetizer, tasty wine-by-the-glass, the always- wonderful grilled gingerbread dessert, and excellent team service, all for a very fair price in a very comfortable, quiet (what a concept!) atmosphere. Who needs more than that?
Service was great. Accommodating with 4 year old. No kids menu but the chef was open to making something simple.
Food was disappointing. Basil tomato soup tasted like it had mint in it. French onion was average. Salad was too vinegary. Burger was subpar. The fish dish was okay. French fries weren’t good.
Very good service and the special that night was also very good. However, the burger was not worth the price.
ONCE AGAIN A GREAT PLACE TO DINE. WE TOOK OUR DAUGHTER FOR HER BIRTHDAY (OUR SON WAS IN NEVADA RACING) AND HAD A FABULOUS TIME. DAN WAS OUR WAITER AGAIN.... WHAT A GREAT GUY. WILL BE BACK FOR THEIR VALENTINE DINNER SPECIAL....
Amazing food. New menu with creative dishes. Great service. Always excellent!
