Martha's Vineyard Chowder Company
Our bottle of wine, from the few opened in the restaurant during our dinner, should have been opened at the table, not at the bar. Usually, a customer should be invited to test the wine prior to pouring in glasses, which was not the case.
This is an okay restaurant in a convenient location in Oak Bluffs. The problem is there are so many good restaurants nearby, so I'm not sure I'd go back the the Martha's Vineyard Chowder Company. The island has a lot of good food places, so it a competitive market.
Just fine for everyday dining
Really enjoyed chatting with the charming owner and the scallops may have been the best of my life. Beautiful bar, gorgeous lighting, excellent place to spend a special night.
Lots of fun
Pop up for 19 Raw was GREAT!
A Vineyard staple. Always great food, excellent service, and wonderful abience. The staff is focused on customer service and always make us feel welcome. Can't go wrong here..any time of the year. Just ask a local.
Very good chowder. Bit pricey. Good service
Terrific seafood, excellent service, fresh oysters and shellfish, nicely appointed dining room and bar. The staff is very customer service oriented. Among the best of restaurants on the Vineyard.
Very disappointed in our visit this time. Hostess was curt and not accommodating. We were seated at a table next to to door and it was very cold and drafty. The hostess kept ope ingredients the outside doors. Air conditioning was on high. When we asked the manager to address the outside door situation, he put chairs up agai st the inside doors so they wouldn't be opened....fire hazard??? Instead of just shutting the outside door. Food was ok, not great. Small portion for the price. Steak wasnt cooked right. Have had better experiences in the past there.
We brought my parents for their 50th wedding anniversary and we were treated extremely well! They through in a special desert for them as well! One of our best meals on the island! Thank you for helping us celebrate such a special occasion!! 😊
Best clam chowder ever and I have had a lot! Waitress told us it’s probably the only one truly made from scratch on Martha’s Vineyard. Impeccable seared tuna. Fresh arugula. The creme brûlée? Not better than all sex, but better than most sex!
We were on a girls trip and we ate dinner at MV Chowder Company. We had a lovely time. Food was good. Especially the pork schnitzel as well as the Clam chowder. Would recommend!
This place is beyond over priced. $30 for a butter drenched lobster roll. Grilled chicken added to caprese salad was tough and chewy. No wonder the restaurant was empty on a rainy afternoon. Downtown Edgartown far better value.
Food was ok/good. I anticipated better based on a Zagat review. They rated food 4.4 but I’d say 3.8.
Pretty bar. So drinks and a burger are recommended
Despite having a reservation, we waited about 15-20 minutes. They forgot we had checked in, so after waiting 15 minutes, the hostess came over and asked us what we were waiting for. When we finally sat, it took about 45 minutes to get our meals. Food was decent, but a bit overpriced.
Visiting MV for a few days with my girlfriend, and was recommended to visit MVCC by a friend who has owned a home in Oak Bluffs for decades. I found the parking very difficult on a Friday night in Oak Bluffs, driving in circles for fifteen minutes until someone left. The staff was friendly and we were seated right away (had made reservations). Ambiance was acceptable with most tables in a big room. Noise was acceptable. We had ordered swordfish, which we assumed would be spectacular considering the price. We were both underwhelmed by the portion size, and the firmness of the swordfish. The mashed potato and grilled asparagus were tasty. The appetizer of a bowl of clam chowder was some of the best we'd ever had. Overall, I would rate our experience as a 6 of 10.
This restaurant has great food and thanks to open table we could make reservations.
The food was ok. They did not have the Spaetzel we specifically went in for with the Pork Snitzel, but they substituted mashed potatoes and asparagus that was really good. We had a nice bottle of wine but it seemed a little pricey. The flourless Chocalate Tort was great and the server was really nice and attentive.
Person in our party wanted swordfish and was not dissapointed. Small piece of fish however.
Clam chowder was tasty. Fish and chips were enjoyed. My bouillabaisse was not what I expected. Said it had swordfish, at best sm sm pieces. Langostinos were used and not that great. Large clams and broth a little off to my taste. A bit too mushy
We were recommended the Martha’s Vineyard Chowder Company and it did not disappoint. Really good food and quick service, would definitely come back.
I had an excellent chowder experience. Will return again.
Had to have the chowder! It was so fresh and actually "light" - I could have eaten more - but then I had to have the Lobster Roll, which was also one of the BEST I've ever had. It wasn't weighted down with a bunch of mayo - it, too, was light and rich - if those two even go together! Tons of lobster - and then bacon, not a bunch, just a little, which made for amazing flavor. So. Yum.
Disappointed. Service overall this summer was horrible.... from hostesses to servers... NOT good. We spend all summer (10 weeks) on MV and eat out often. Likely will skip this venue in the future.
We loved the chowder came back twice. The salad was large crisp and a great choice. Bacon Ceasar. My husband had swordfish said it was great. They had shrimp cakes very tasty and risotto dish excellent too. Prices fair and service friendly
Chowder House is a good place to have either lunch or dinner.
Food service was rather quick.
Took and submitted the order quickly.
Food arrived at a timely manner and with pleasant servers.
Food was tasty and hot, portion size was quite adequate for both women and men. Can't say that I saw a child's section on the menu.
The restaurant plays overhead music, the night that we were there it played at a reasonable level. However, it can get quite loud on the weekend during the seasonal high.
Food pricing was typical island pricing for dinner.
Would we go back or suggest it to friends and family? We would definitely say yes.
I hope this helps all those that are coming and going on M.V.
Enjoy, have fun but most of all be safe.
The clam chowder was one of the best we’ve ever had and we loved our entrees too! A definite stop whenever we visit MV!
Didnt try much except chowder and wife had a Sandwich that she liked, everything was good for us but not enough experience for me to justify higher than 4 stars.
Great service. Food is excellent. I highly recommend the Chowder House for all occasions.
Chowder was excellent. We're from Rhode Island so we know our chowdah! Steak was meh. No seasoning at all and a bit tough. Slightly undercooked. For the money the food was subpar.
Service is wonderful always (frequent flyer)
Food is excellent ,large portions
The restaurant is a little dark and the volume of voices was a bit loud , in the restaurants defense it was early afternoon and seems like happy hour was well underway .
We tried two appetizers, the grilled Brussels sprouts and the chowder. The sprouts had no flavor at all, which is a feat in and of itself; the chowder was bland, maybe flour and celery as the dominant tastes. We left them both. By the time the entrees arrived we weren’t willing to test our health on two lobster rolls and a fried cod sandwich. Without taking a bite, we paid and left. Staff was nice and concerned but bad flavor and poor appearance are things that clearly worried us but not them. Even after the manager comp’d the apps, the bill was high — market price on those lobster rolls — but we all felt leaving was the wise choice.
Apps were great...entrees were disappointing.
Went w grandkids and family. Early seating. Very prompt and attentive wait staff. Good kids menu. Interesting cocktails. Chowder met expectations. Boullaibaise very good as was seafood risotto. No room for desert
Warm lobster rolls and sweet potato fries were really good. Stuck between 2 large party tables so service slowed at times but overall a nice experience and very convenient location.
Just an Ok restaurant, not really worth the cost. Service was ok, but the food was just average.
The food was very good. A little pricey, but that’s the Vineyard. Chowder was very good, but not THE best we’ve ever had.
We recommend this restaurant overall.
The food here was delicious!!!
Tasty, but pricey. Decent service. Kind of noisy, but nice interior-belies the exterior.
