Set overlooking the Pacific Ocean with stunning views, mar’sel at Terranea offers the ideal location for an elegant dinner or relaxed late night bite. Located just south of Los Angeles on the verdant Palos Verdes peninsula, mar'sel (a play on the Spanish word for "sea" and the French word for "salt") offers a decidedly inventive twist on California cuisine. With a seasonally rotating fine dining menu that features locally-sourced ingredients (citrus and herbs from the resort's grounds, hand-ground chocolate, farm-fresh eggs), as well as playful takes on culinary favorites, mar'sel combines approachable luxury with a breathtaking setting perfect for every palate.

It's good but not great. You'll pay Michelin star prices for non-Michelin star food. The food is prepared well and high quality but it lacks any real creativity. For example, the amuse-bouche was a version of salty shredded chicken with mayo. Something most any aspiring amateur cook could think up. It was good - but not great! Another example: mild blue cheese and cheddar cheese on the cheese plate, enjoyable but something you could probably get at Trader Joes. Wait staff is excellent, wine selection is notable and cocktails were creative. Solid place to take a date but if you're a foodie looking to be wowed, look elsewhere.

This is my second experience and I would definitely recommend Mar'sel's
Great food, wines and champagnes.
Very nice patio area with a beautiful view of the ocean suited for dining outdoors when the weather makes it posible

My wife and I enjoyed a two night stay at Terranea as a Christmas present to one another and we enjoyed a very good meal at Mar'sel on our second night. Unfortunately, it was very chilly and windy that night so we were unable to sit outside and despite our request, unable to sit at a window table. However, there really aren't any bad seats in the restaurant and we were still able to enjoy a very nice view.
The service (Micheal and Enrique) was exceptional. Helpful, suggestive but allowing sufficient time and space without making us feel rushed. The food was very, very good. Our scallop appetizer was divine. My wagyu shortribs were very good and my wife's bolognese was also very good. We didn't have room for desert but the desert choices also looked really, really good. The ingredients were all fresh, the food was prepared to perfection and the prices were reasonable relative to what other restaurants with similar views and/or quality would charge. My only quasi-complaint (and this is a stretch) is that the beer choices were lacking, IMO. My wife loves wine, I do not, but the wine choices were great. Beer, on the other hand, was much more limited. With the explosion in craft beer, I would expect and like to see more beer choices provided. But that's a stretch as I'm sure most diners at restaurants of this ilk are more focused on wine.

I have been wanting to dine here for months and finally made it a point to. First off, it is a very elegant and sexy spot - great for a romantic evening. The service was excellent; Christopher is awesome! The food was delicious, but the menu leaves a bit to be desired. The sides are lacking BIG time! I enjoyed the Diver scallops with polenta - simply heavenly! I also had the Filet Mignon and it was truly to die for, but again, the lack of a decent choice of sides put a bit of a damper on my dining experience here. Overall, I enjoyed my visit and will definitely come again!

Very nice restaurant. We started our meal with a drink at the bar where we met our waiter for the evening. We were then shown to our table where we started with the Bbq shrimp, which was like bring in New Orleans. They also brought us fresh made English muffins. My wife had the tomahawk pork chop and I had the filet mignon and scallops. We also ordered the salted roasted carrots. All of the dishes were very very good, but the pork chop was our favorite. We ended the meal with the caramel pudding and sugar cookies. We were able to meet the chef and he even showed us the kitchen. Very nice staff and great food. We will definitely return.

Was there for NYE festivities. 5 course tasting menu. Brought out second course before first so left with two plates on table at same time. Service was below average for a $285 pp tasting menu dinner and wine pairing.
Was behind band but it was too loud. Music was nice but too loud, couldnt hear date at times
Meal not coursed out timely. Food arrived too quickly or we would wait Earlier seating staying and blew horns and were drunk loud while we were trying to start our dinner.
9 pm reservation. Seated at 9:20
