mar'sel at Terranea Resort
We dined at Marsel to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary . It was our second experience. Our first time here was almost 10 years ago when they first opened. It took us awhile to get back to Marsel because in its heydey a reservation had to be made weeks in advance. Now you can a reservation the day you want to dine. There is a reason for that- it has declined significantly. I had heard from a few locals that the food is not what it used to be but we wanted to try it ourselves. We had the artichoke entree as an appetizer- honestly it was cold (maybe it was supposed to be ), very crunchy like it was raw and no flavor.. We should have sent it back . My husband had the lobster pappardelle which our waiter said was the specialty . It was fine and edible but not worthy of the $39 price of a supposedly 5 star restaurant. I had the branzino , which was the best thing we had that night- other than the incredible view. We live nearby so we would love to come back but sadly it is not worth it.
Came here during our mini-moon and had the perfect meal. We were greeted with warmth and that never left during our dinner.
The bread and butter was perfection. The burrata with tomatoes was out of this world - they split it for us in the kitchen and the portions were really big! Not typically the norm for a high end restaurant.
The short rib melted in your mouth and the filet mignon was extremely flavorful.
Jeffrey was a wonderful server - attentive, informative and kind.
We also got a free pot de caramel dessert.
We will absolutely be back.
A very ideal venue for a special occasion - beautiful classy restaurant overlooking the ocean off of Palos verdes. The dishes were all unique and flavorful, the old fashion I ordered however tasted of Macallan and nothing else. The service was extremely attentive, in a high end way that exceeded expectations but never made you feel rushed, Jeffrey I recall was our server.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant for a special occasion, and worth the visit even if you are not staying at the nearby Terranea
Jeffrey and Diego were excellent servers, very attentive and knowledgeable.
In some cases, food was more unique than delicious. Pasta with room-temperature butternut purée was disappointing, did not enjoy uni. Gooseberries on cheese platter and lobster dish are decorative, not too tasty!
This is our go to spot for special occasions. Ask for Jeffrey....he is the best and will make your night awesome!
Service and food were amazing!
This is a fabulous restaurant for a special occasion. It's expensive but well worth it. Unfortunately we sat next to a table of 8 very loud gals celebrating a birthday. It interfered with our plans for a quiet, romantic dinner for my husband's birthday. We asked to be moved but the options were limited so we stayed. Just wish the manager would've asked the gals to quiet down so the other patrons could enjoy their meal.
Mar'sel made my proposal to the love of my life a stress free and perfectly orchestrated event!
I made reservations here with plans to propose to my girlfriend (now fiancé), the staff at Mar'sel facilitated all my requests for that special moment with absolute attention to detail.
Our waiters Jeffrey and Diego made sure our glasses were never empty and when that special moment came Jeffrey was at the ready taking pictures for us as requested. I really cannot compliment our waiters enough on how good a job they did in making sure this special moment was as perfect as can be.
The food is frankly speaking to die for, everything from the cheese plate to the lobster was prepared with an apparent and attentive craftsmanship. The cocktails were likewise prepared...like artwork.
A big thanks to all at Mar'sel!
The service was brilliant, the best. Food wise, oysters, scallop, steak and desert, what we had were delicious. It is very expensive restaurant but why not for a special occasion!
This place is pure magic. My wife and I had reservations for our one year anniversary. The food was impeccable, the service was friendly and prompt and helpful, and the ambiance was perfect. We spent our first night as a married couple at the Terranea resort so we were sort of primed to like the experience but our expectations were surpassed.
We had multiple appetizers (Scallops and Blackened Octopus), multiple glasses of wine, and an entree (Salmon and Lobster) each and the bill was around $260. My opinion was that it was completely worth it. We'll definitely be coming back next year :)
Great ambiance, great service, delicious food.
We had an amazing time at Mar'sel. The food was incredible and the service was second to none.
The food was absolutely delicious (snow crab eggs benedict; and omelet special). Claudia was amazing...the best waitress. Mike was friendly. My niece, who lives out of state, was stunned & so happy. "This is the best brunch I have had!" Thank you, mar'sel for showing my niece the best time!
Service was fantastic. Not at all happy with management. I made the reservation and then called..way ahead of time..to ask for a nice table because we were celebrating our anniversary. Then I called the day before to remind them. We were place behind a pillar with no view. Then they loved us to the furthest outdoor seat where only one of us had a view. And they had tables open that I wanted but said they were “reserved”. Isn’t that what I did?
Service okay, food very good but timing was horrible.
Waited an uncomfortably long time for main courses.
Restaurant was not at capacity.
It seemed as though our order was not placed until we asked what the heck was going on and why it was taking so long. Too bad for such a beautiful location.
Amazing view, average meal. My husband and I were quite disappointed with the food, nothing notable at all, not what you expect when spending this much for dinner. We had the scallops and New Orleans Shrimp appetizers. The scallops were good, but we have had just as good at many places. You could hear all the servers recommending the New Orleans shrimp because that is where the chef is from, you would expect some good flavor or a little kick, there was nothing distinct about the dish. The forbidden rice was like gravel. My husband ordered the 28 day aged New York steak which was over cooked and had to be sent back. I ordered the branzino which was actually very good as was the black truffle creamed spinach.
The service was good as was the ambiance but can’t say we have any plans to go back.
Great food, beautiful view and outstanding service. Our server Jeffrey made the experience especially nice. Thank you.
Beautiful view, elegant space, outstanding service, great food!
Definitely! mar'sel has earned its place of honor at the edge of the Pacific by providing comfortable seating arrangements, protection from the winds, a friendly, informed, attentive staff, and an interesting menu of perfectly prepared food. We will look forward to our next visit to Terranea and this extraordinary dining experience.
They tried too hard and added too much in terms of dressings/sauces. Let the star of the food be the food - the branzino was drowning, the T bone did not need sauce, this was the theme, unfortunately.
The ambiance and service were great
As always, the food is so great!!!! Terrenea/ Mar’sel always makes my family happy. Jeffrey is always serving top notch service, and we cannot expect more from anyone else. He makes the diner a happy experience with his positivity. Also Jonathan’s side service is so nice!
Great food, atmosphere and service. Will go again.
Their service was outstanding. Food was extremely wonderful! Each ingredient was tasty, and the presentation of the dishes are beyond expectations.
Honestly for the price you're paying for the food this place should compete with moderately priced restaurants like the Hillstone group. The food was okay but not great, it was also very small portions. I brought my fiance there to celebrate and we were very disappointed 😔
Excellent meal, excellent views.
Food alway fantastic..service provide by the talented jeffrey is fabulous...the setting completes the trifecta. ..a must go dining experience. ..
Celebrating a birthday
Outstanding quality and service in every way from start to finish along with being a great setting including the magnificent views
Birthday dinner, really great place
Nice view, great lobster salad. Other dishes were...meh. Most problematic, waiter spilled coffee on one of my elderly guests, also had to be reminded a couple of times to bring salad dressing for guest. Unfortunately, the service support staff, though the place was 3/4 empty, was at best, inept. The view was great!
One of the worst meals I had over my trip this past weekend. The main server was pushy, inattentive, and made us feel like an inconvenience. The food had zero imaginative flavor and poorly prepared. Don’t order the jumbo carrots, SO SALTY even after you scrap the salt off the top. Appetizer scallops had sand in them. Filet minion was just a hunk of meat on a plate. Disappointing experience all the way around:
My wife's lobster was terrible. It was tough and almost could not be eaten. The rest of the party had good food. This was our 50th Anniversary and she was very upset about her food. We will continue to go to "The Chart House" for special events like this. We have always had excellent food there. The help there was great and views were outstanding. The event was marginal due to her food quality.
Waiter was nowhere to be seen for about 10 or 15 minutes. I ordered an $84 dry aged New York strip medium rare that looked and tasted like it was boiled. It was one of the worst steaks I’ve ever had let alone when you consider the outrageous price for it. I’ve gone many times to mar’sel for special occasions, and while the service can often be incredibly slow, this was the first bad meal I’ve had. Literally and figuratively left a bad taste in my mouth.
Lovely evening out. Dinner was great and fire was burning and made it nice inside.
Food was great, the environment was great, and te service was great! Always top notch service by Jeffrey and Johnathan!
We went for our anniversary and the staff really made it special.
Beautiful setting and excellent service. Options were plentiful, including an excellent wine list.
We visited Mar'sel for a special birthday dinner and were not disappointed! The food and ambiance was lovely and our server Jeffrey was absolutely the best! Kudos to a great team!
We were seated outside with a wonderful view of the ocean. The staff was always attentive at just the right time. We had the nut and three cheese fruit tray for our appetizer. It was plenty for two adults and two kids. My wife and I enjoyed the perfectly cooked wagyu short ribs. Our daughter had the filet mignon which was good but over cooked. Our youngest had the filet mignon with noodles from the kids menu. We had the signature cote de pot caramel and lemon curd with rhubarb desserts. Both were very good. The kids meal came with vanilla ice cream and a sugar cookie. Overall a pricy ($340) but fun dining experience.
