mar'sel at Terranea Resort
Need to book at 8:15 PM?Other great restaurants with availability.
Some of the best views one could have while eating some of the best food ever made, served by the most attentive and polite staff. The aged steaks are great to split along with one of the wonderful appetizers and a salad. I plan to go back to this hidden gem.
The view, the food and the servce were amazing.
Incredibly relaxing. Close to L.A. but it feels a world away.
Food was so amazing, one of the best Sunday brunch menu I’ve seen. Such a gorgeous view of the cliffs and ocean. Super relaxing and lux.
We had a wonderful 28th wedding anniversary brunch.
The service was good.
The even free dessert was pretty good!
I want to come back again.
Fabulous. We really enjoy when we come here. The food is exceptional.
I travel a great deal so I’m exposed to various restaurants/ experience globally. I have two children in the business - one a private chef in Newport Beach and another in Southport CT that works for famous Chefs mostly in production of menus and shows
My wife and I came to the hotel for Valentine’s weekend. We purposely avoided the Feb 14 dinner rush and made a reservation for February 15. This is my fourth time to the restaurant since it’s been open. I hosted my own Birthday party several years ago for 12 people so I have been a good patron when I have booked.
This time the dining experience was both underwhelming and expensive
We arrived about 15 mins late for our reservation the entire staff initially and throughout the dinner was attentive, helpful and very thoughtful. Alex waited on us, a knowledgeable young man who explained the nuances of some of the entrees, was attentive but not intrusive throughout our dinner
We ordered an expensive bottle of wine , one appetizer that we split and two entrees. Total Bill was 500.00 about 420.00 before tip - with two grown children in the business supporting families we are very respectful of young hard working people that work in the industry
I guess the main criticism was we were very underwhelmed with the entrees. My wife ordered Lamb and I ordered chicken. Both the lamb and the chicken were cooked but drenched in a simple sauce (truffles) with a strong after taste. The presentation was ok but I have had better entrees in restaurants that were a third of the price. The appetizer was very good, flavorful but not memorable and expensive for what was received. We did not order desert - we were disappointed with the meal and just wanted to leave
Alex was sweet and brought us a small sampling of truffles. We are don’t complain, especially to wait staff trying so hard. I was stunned at the bill even backing out the cost of the wine. As mentioned I left a healthy tip - underwhelming/expensive!
A disappointing experience. Food was unremarkable and over priced.
Two of us ordered the lobster entree. The lobster was not cooked through and it did not work with burrata and Uni. Very strange combination with butternut squash. First course was a Cesar salad with smoked trout. The trout was mixed with dried fish flakes that were too salty. My son-in law had hanger steak which he said was delicious. My daughter had the vegan tasting menu which she liked except for the cucumber slice filled with strawberry jam- again weird combo. My other daughter liked her dinner very much: green salad, scallops on polenta (polenta was room temperature though), and barbecue shrimp. Wine list was good. Low rating is because my particular dinner was dreadful and for what the evening cost, everything that they serve should be good.
My son’s birthday. I like how they took their time. No rush. Food was delicious.
Great service, meal was good but the portions were just to big and some of the side dishes neede rethinking
Servers were very accommodating.
My husband and I came to celebrate our anniversary and had an excellent experience overall. Our server was Jeffrey and he made great recommendations from food to wine and everything was really tasty. We had the blue cheese and ham board, OMG it was so delicious. Overall we left very happy. Will be coming back for our next special occasion.
My wife and I celebrated our journey at this place. I highly recommend Jeffrey as he was a terrific server. If you sit at the right place outside, the view of the Pacific Ocean is gorgeous.
Our waiter, Jeffrey, was amazing. We were celebrating an anniversary and he shared that he was also celebrating one this week. We made an instant connection and he explained that he had recently won employee of the month and year and what a great property and employer Terranea was.
He made us feel like we were having dinner with an old friend, and the chef sent out a complimentary dessert which made our celebration even more special! Jeffrey provided a level of customer service that all servers should give. We won’t hesitate to go back and ask to be seated in his area!
(The food was good too but the entire experience, from amuse bouche to dessert was delightful.)
Excellent service by Felix and the rest of the staff. The BBQ shrimp and scallops where excellent as well as the 28 eight day aged rib eye strip and filet Mignon. First rate cocktails and awesome setting
Pricey and amazing
I would come back again
Got the black truffle pairing with wine
It was amazing as was the view and service my wife and I had a great time!
Celebrated my wife's birthday, the service rep Jeff cared great service.
Two top tables are too big for couples to have an intimate dinner experience. Poor service. Finished our bottle of wine and our waiter never asked if we wanted anything else to drink. Brussels sprout salad didn’t contain any Brussel sprouts. That should have been written in the description. Food was very average. Not the high end experience we were hoping for. Next time, we’d stick to the sushi restaurant on site.,
Menu is outstanding. Everything cooked properly, no oversalting, well seasoned. The cheese board is an excellent appetozer for two-four, wild fennel soup delicious, enflish muffins TO DIE FOR
Had a great time with family! Thank you!
Beautiful restaurant, delicious food, and great service.
NEW YEAR'S EVE WAS OUTSTANDING!!! MAR'SEL NEVER DISAPPOINTS!!! THE MENU WAS PHENOMENAL!! CHEF ANDREW ENJOYS WHAT HE DOES, AND DOES IT WELL!!! OUR SERVER, JEFFREY IS A VERY SPECIAL PERSON, AND DOES ALL HE CAN TO PLEASE HIS GUESTS AND MAKES YOU FEEL VERY SPECIAL!!! THE ENTIRE STAFF IS ALWAYS VERY WELCOMING!! THANK YOU FOR MAKING THE EVENING VERY SPECIAL!!! SEE YOU AGAIN SOON!!
Awesome dinner with outstanding service. Unfortunately the split patio and dining room seating makes for a very chilly dining room on a cold winter night. Guests were wearing coats and asking to be moved from tables near the doors, yet we still had to ask the staff to close the doors. Easy to fix and please train your staff to recognize it.
Great cocktails, food and service will have us coming back.
Our first time and celebrating anniversary, so we were hoping for something pretty "wow" special. And the mar'sel team knocked it out of the park! First, shout out to Mother Nature...the ocean side setting is absolutely stunning. Book a time to enjoy the sunset and be prepared to love this location. Follow that up with absolutely on-point service -- professional, helpful, non-intrusive. Then there's the food. First rate. I don't normally recommend hotel restaurants to foodies, but this place operates at that level. Every detail is carefully thought through, providing us was a lovely, seasonal, chef-driven dining experience. (And we're pretty picky!) Great place to spring a wedding proposal, celebrate Granny's 90th and/or mark other major milestone events in a local Angeleno's life.
Sunday brunch was fantastic! The oatmeal frittata was unique and delicious as was the crab and burratta toast. Our server Claudia was amazing - nice, thoughtful and attentive. The view was wonderful as expected
Over the past 10 years, we have enjoyed many family special occasions at mar'sel. A few days before Christmas, a family member had passed away, so we were very much looking forward to having a nice, quiet dinner at mar'sel, one of our favorite restaurants. Unfortunately, our experience on Christmas was a bit disappointing.
First off, let me say that the food is outstanding. No question. The service was generally excellent, though we did feel a bit rushed at first, which was surprising given our past experiences.
What made the experience disappointing was related to the hotel's new parking policy, not the restaurant, but it still impacted our overall experience. The new hotel parking policy makes valeting your car the only reasonable option. (In the past, we would have self-parked in the lot adjacent to the restaurant.) Given that it was pouring rain, we took the shuttle from the valet area to the restaurant. But when we were done with dinner, we were told that it was going to take 40 minutes to get a shuttle back to the valet! So, we walked to the car in the pouring rain rather than waiting for 40 mins for the shuttle. We were offered no umbrella and no alternatives. We were soaked.
Suggestion: Put a valet outpost at the top of the walkway to mar'sel on evenings when you anticipate a capacity crowd and/or inclement weather. That is the level of service we have grown to expect from Terranea.
MAR'SEL NEVER DISAPPOINTS AND CHRISTMAS EVE WAS FANTASTIC!!! THE MENU WAS OUTSTANDING!! OUR USUAL SERVER, JEFFREY, WAS NOT AVAILABLE, HOWEVER, OUR SERVER, CLAUDIA, MADE US FEEL VERY SPECIAL.!!! WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED!! THE ENTIRE STAFF IS ALWAYS WELCOMING!! THANK YOU FOR MAKING THE EVENING TERRIFIC!! SEE YOU AGAIN SOON!!
We went here for Christmas Eve diner. The service was out standing and what I would have expected for a restaurant at this level. The fact that there was a vegan tasting menu with vegan wine pairings puts it up there. The price and the quality of the food did not match. I have eaten at places where the price was a little more but it was a 7 course and the chef came out and gave personal attention. That is what the food was lacking is just a little more execution and Percussion. If I paid 80 a person it would have been worth it, not the 125-155 it left a little to be desired. I’m on the fence if I where to return.
We were very disappointed in our meal. Service was great. Interior/ambience felt very dated.
Started great. Cheese plate and fresh breads were really good.
Entrees were overly complex. I had Lobster pasta with Barrata and Uni (which sounds great) - but it also had goose berries + other raisin/fruit elements + some other veggie/herb. My wife had scallops (normally her favorite) and she too found the accompaniments in the dish confusing and superfluous.
Note: Side vegetable dishes are GIANT. This could be good if you're with a larger party. Or a little wasteful if you're a couple wanting to try a few things. Just a heads up!
The service and the taste of the food was below average for the price of the meal. While sitting outside, our heater failed twice and we had to find our waiter to relight it. They finally switched it out but not before our meal was finished.
mar’sel is one of our favorite places to celebrate special occasions! Not only do we get to enjoy a beautiful view, but we are also always treated to the best service. In particular, Jeffrey goes above and beyond to make sure we have a wonderful and memorable dining experience. On our last visit, Eddie also provided amazing service as well. We are so happy to have found a place like mar’sel!
Unique and delicious food
One of the best meals of my life! Seriously! My husband and I had oysters and the cote de boeuf. It was outstanding! Can't say enough about this place. Made my birthday magical. Thank you!
From the moment we walked in it was a very friendly, warm, and classy experience . It was our 9th anniversary and has been our tradition to go to Mar’sel’s to celebrate. We’ve missed the last 2 years but super happy to have come back.
The soup we had was amazing as was the 3 different fresh breads we started with and the roasted bone in short rib for 2 with shishitos, boniato yams, and mushrooms was all a great experience.
The service really eas the icing on the cake. Jeffrey and Ornacio had the perfect touch. They were super helpful and always made us comfortable even though we were out of our league. We’re broke but it was nice on our anniversary to feel like millionaires. Oh yes, their pudding they served us as congratulations on our anniversary was another taste adventure, so good!!
My husband and I dined at Mar'sel for our Anniversary celebration. Not only is the location superb with a scenic view of the coast at sunset but the restaurant setting itself was delightful starting with champagne on the patio sitting fireside. Our waiter was charming and attentive bringing us a blanket to share and when ready, guided us to our indoor table where we sat by the cozy fireside. The bartender mixed our favorite cocktail, perfect manhattans and it was the best we ever experienced! We can only rave about the delicious appetizers and entree. We ordered the sumptuous filet mignon and lamb served exactly to our taste - a large portion, savory flavors and cooked just right. We ended the meal with their Anniversary dessert and cookies. Needless to say, at the end of our meal we were all smiles and more than content!
Great farm to table experience. We received excellent service and would definitely recommend to family and friends.
Excellent venue. Perfect for the Holiday. Great staff. Very dedicated to make great memories. Thank you.
Great for special occasions or for an intimate date. Can be expensive but worth the price.Take a stroll after dinner around the Terranea property.
Everything and everyone was perfect. The waitstaff is generous, knowledgeable, and attentive. We could not have asked for a better experience.
